So is Antonia Bayle still the go to server to play on for this game? If so, is there a guild some of you cool folks are members of? My wife and I are wanting to come back and play this again casually, but it would be nice to have a guild to socialize with and maybe get some help with questions and such, since EQ2 is such a deep game.

Just another silly nub question before I make a mistake and have to respec again. Say I go down to an ability in the spec tree that I don't have yet. For example, I can spec points into "Enhance Mana Sieve." Will it automatically give me Mana Sieve to use or do I still have to learn it at a certain level...

I think, in the end, paladins end up with more AoEs than SKs. At level 37 I have 5 blue AEs (3 combat arts, 1 from the STA line, 1 from paladin smite line), and I pick up another 2 by the time I hit 70, and then another at 80.

SKs, as someone said, get their healing from lifetaps, which is why they do much more damage than paladins. Pallys have to use their power to heal themselves but do no damage, where as SKs can damage the mob AND heal themselves, more efficient power use that way.

Man, my gear is getting incredibly dated. Why is it so hard suddenly to find new stuff? Everything was working grand on Timorous. It sucks that trial players cannot use the brokers nor trade. Its like, great, thanks for condemning me to use utter crap to defend myself.

Oh and I've reorganized my hotbars really nicely. The two side buttons of my mouse are programmed to be Control and Alt and I stacked similar abilities vertically across 3 bars. IE: My AoE attacks are programmed to 4, Control 4, and Alt 4, each one being stronger/longer reuse timer than the one before.

Coincidentally, their ranges are also synced up nicely. IE: I can target someone over by the next hill, all my attacks are shaded. Then moving closer, Oh, there are my long distance nukes in a square shape, and stepping closer, there are my closer nukes, and ah, there are the melee attacks.

    It is surprisingly efficient. :D

As you progress into older content the gear rewards will get worse and worse. If you go to something like Stormhold and see the quality of the gear dropping in there, you'll see what I mean. Back in the day that gear would have been an upgrade for everyone. These days crafted equipment is the way to go for the most part. Occasionally a fabled piece will really shine but MC is the way to go.

The trial accounts are all well and good, but you really need to switch over to the normal account so you can get better gear, or level your crafting well ahead of your character level.

That is my one and single gripe with the game, crafted stuff should be useful, but it shouldn't be -better- than stuff from a dungeon. I can kind of forgive for the lower levels, and will hope as I get higher the stuff outweighs the crafted.

Try talking to another evil diety prophet and see if you can get their quest (you can always delete it). I'm curious if another one will talk to you. Rallos is in BB near the top of the ramp, and Inny is in Gfay near the spires, and Burtoxxulous is at Gorowyn near the breathing pools, small hidden path to one side. Let me know.

Until you get to Lavastorm at 45+, where the gear drops are very solid.

Named mobs in dungeons and raids will also yield good gear if you don't want to go crafted. TBH, crafted is just great for leveling up, however. Its dependable (you don't need to find it), and it can be adorned/imbued. I'd say crafted is the benchmark. Raiding/named will get you better. Soloing or small groups will ussually get you worse (except in lavastorm). As an SK you should be able to farm green named pretty easily.

An an aside, if you really, really, really don't like having to gear up a lot while leveling (tanks are very gear dependant, then scouts), I suggest possibly a change of class?

Cloth casters (and furies/wardens to lesser extent) are cheap to play. Gear is minimal if you need to save coin or just dont want to worry, just in terms of leveling up. You can get broker trash and adept 1s on them and still be fine for the most part, with some exceptions:

Summoners - spend coin only on master tank pet and defensive stance spell. 2 spells every 14 levels, that's all you worry about.

Enchanters - spend coin only on master pet (Illy) or charm (coercer). 1 spell every 14 levels, that's all you gotta worry about.

Druids - leather armor is cheaper to get crafted than metal armor (by up to 75%). You still gotta fork out for a sword or something, but because you have heals, its okay to have a bit lower dps and draw out a fight a bit longer if your sword isn't quite as top notch.

Tbh, I've leveled up a number of classes (SK, Bruiser, Necro, Coercer, Dirge, Swashy, Brig, Inquisitor, Fury) and gearing up wasn't a huge focus of concern leveling up. I used what I had on hand, with occasionaly broker runs or armor craft requests. But I never sweated it. The time it starts to become necessary while leveling up is only when you are MT for a raid. Then you'll notice. Or you are doing Orange-con group content.

To be fair, I didn't start to really feel any trouble until like, mid 20s when gear really started to be a thorn in my side.

Btw guys, I just went ahead and blew all my gold one some new stuff. First a new 2h sword which I am not sure I like now that I got it- 6 second delay sure blows. I also went ahead and splurged on a Mottled Leather Backpack (40 slots). The trouble is, I went out and bought as much of a set of armor as I could. I went out and purchased a set of "Pristine Feyiron Plate" Sabatons (boots), Gauntlets, Gussets (Bracers), and Spaulders (shoulders). Trouble is- I noticed that there is no helm, chest or leggings for this set.

There are similar Feyiron pieces but they don't seem to match the icon art's color which I want to try and keep consistent so I can dump this fugly bristlebane armor without a clownsuit. If there is a high ranked Armorcrafter that could verify that there is a helm, chest, and leggings for this set, or even better, go out and throw some up on the Broker system for the Antonia Bayle server, I'd really appreciate it.

So can anybody describe in a couple sentences each what the plate tanks are like in this game? Last time I played, I played a Paladin to level 40 and liked it pretty well. This time I thought I might try the Guardian or Berserker, but I usually prefer a character that has some magic utility. I wanted to try SK, but I just prefer to be a good guy.

    From what I've heard/experienced...

Paladin are AoE machines, and have the ability to keep themselves healthy via heals.

Shadow Knights are just friggin' silly when it comes to their own self healing, my current one may be only 18 but he just... can't die, even if I pull 10+ things.

Not entirely certain when it comes to Guardian/Berserker, though I do know they both lack the AoE capabilities of the Crusaders(paladin/shadowknight).

Funny how the Zerkers are outclassed in AoE abilities by Crusaders. Takes a lot of AAs to make their auto-attacks a good chunk of their AoE damage.

    Nope just cities.

And even they're sort of moving away from that. Like Gorowyn you can visit regardless of alignment, Kelethin is fine too so long as you stay away from the Royal Court (the royal guards will kill you) and probably Halas will be neutral as well.

Hadn't logged in on this machine in maybe a week and now when I try to get into the game (Play) it basically just continually updates (under the Play button it keeps flashing: Updating (99% complete). I first thought it was just updating a ridiculous number of tiny files, but it's been going for about 14 hours now and I've got FiOS so I can't imagine it's been patching that long, but maybe it has.

Is this ever normal or should I just reinstall D: the whole game?

    Decent appearance armors:

From the Station Cash store there is a black shiney suit and a golden suit.

From in-game off the top of my head:
    - Lavastorm has some glowing lava-like armor you can craft as part of the Sootfoot goblin quest lines
    - You can do the SK class armor quest (level 20-30) for some decent armor (greyish, IIRC)
    - YOu can get holiday-crafted "paper" plate-appearance armor (Bristlebane day?). Might be expensive or not, depending on who you know who has the materials to craft it.I've seen orange and green (both bright)
    - magmagtic Bronze and there is also mossy-green shiney armor as well; from TSO/Moors of Ykesha level crafters
    - There is some dwarf faction armor in Butcherblock, but I have no idea what it looks like.
    - Ebon crafted is black
-D'morte dropped armor is pretty nice, has some detailing to it, kind of layered grey-black plate. Comes in complete sets.

Just some of the more decent armors out there, there are a lot of others.
