So...I think my launcher is messed up. Hadn't logged in on this machine in maybe a week and now when I try to get into the game (Play) it basically just continually updates (under the Play button it keeps flashing: Updating (99% complete). I first thought it was just updating a ridiculous number of tiny files, but it's been going for about 14 hours now and I've got FiOS so I can't imagine it's been patching that long, but maybe it has.
Is this ever normal or should I just reinstall the whole game?
Download the sony station launcher. Its something wrong with Steam. Heads up though, chances are you have a 9g patch waiting.

It does have some issues with running as administrator (EQ requires it, Steam doesn't) but once you get that sorted, it's equivalent to starting the station launcher outside of steam.

Just joined an RP guild. And like any MMO, a good, active guild with people to talk and joke around with, not to mention group with makes any MMO 1,000 times better.
Apparently the theme for our guild house is a burlesque tavern. Neat.

104 AAs on my pally w00t. Only 3 more to go and I might power up to 46-47 and lock off again.
Is locking at certain points recommended to save time later, or is this just something the pro power-levellers do?

Well, I only lock my paladin really. Because I want to get the achieves for doing x amount of quests in every zone when possible. FUCK ENCHANTED LANDS (35/50 and can't get any further). I'm also doing my Paladin like this so I'm a tanking god, but I'm probably going to do lavastorm and most of everfrost then power up to 66 after that, hate the late 40s and 50s.
Some people lock at x4 (14, 24, 34, etc) and do some farming. You get your grandmasters at x4 levels so if you're in MC armor and you have your grandmaster, you're kickin ass .
If you're really worried about having missed content when you powered ahead, you can always just self mentor down or make some group really happy by mentoring down and helping them out, which I will probably do to go back and do some of the SS instances that I plan on skipping.

It's not really necessary now with the changes they've made to how AA works. It's really only necessary if you really want to grind out ridiculous AA for your level. Even then you can just set your AA conversion high and not really worry about it (for example, on my Mystic at about quarter through 52 I set it to 75% gained 11 AAs and just 1 level).
It's not really something inexperienced players should bother with IMO. Plus it's easier with a max level character with the 10% Adventure XP Bonus which you can convert to AA.
The EQ2 Wiki has a link to Halas housing up. Looks really nice. Definitely ditching my 6-room in Qeynos for a 6-room there.
They really lowered the rare harvest rate coming into the 70s; I had probably 14-15 rares from the KoS zones, and now after an equal amount of time in kylong plains, I have maybe a third that, with at least twice as much normal harvesting time in. Did get the gathering obsession chain finished though, which was nice.
Makes getting loams for skills and poisons a royal pain though
Sooooo, is it hard to get groups for dungeons and stuff while levelling in EQ2? My wife and I decided to come back and play again, but in most MMOs we do the standard I play a tank, she plays a healer thing to ensure we are able to have the foundation for groups. However, I think I might want to play a swashbuckler or troubadour or something like that for a change of pace instead of tanking, but I'm afraid if I do we'll never be able to do dungeons and I'll regret not playing a tank class.
Once we settle on classes and get some levels under our belts we'll be trying to get up in a guild with some of you folks if possible. I think somebody mentioned Relic a couple pages back when I asked about a guild, so I guess we'll try to hit somebody up about that.

Relic is a great guild and there are a few of us in it. Friendly bunch of people and most of the lowbies can get help if they require it without any trouble.
Yeah, the patch notes look pretty promising, and I'll be sorely tempted to get one of the halas houses right off the bat.
New updates look great. Travel stuff is great for the game's health (being newbie friendly).

Dungeon groups are usually not hard to get. Some dungeons are busier than others, but hell, even WailingCaves (teens dungeon in Commonlands) was very busy late night. I never have trouble getting dungeons groups, but then again, I'm in a very active and busy guild, too :P I 99% of the time never do stuff out-of-guild.

You won't get the same drop rates until your harvesting skills are at the same relative amount above the base skill for T8 zones as they were above the base skill for T7 zones. This keeps higher-tier rares rare. Of course, you'll probably need to level into T9 to get your skills to that point, but at least it's possible now.
Basically your chance for the rarer harvests (3 instead of 1; a rare; 10 plus a rare) is determined by how much higher your relevant harvesting skill is than the base skill needed to harvest in that zone. And there's a cap, of course, so you can't waltz through T1 zones only getting rares.

I made a Conjuror last week and decided to just grind AA for the week. I managed to get 63 by level 38. Now that I've got Unabate, I think I'm just going to stick to leveling up. On the plus side, with an expert or master tank pet I'm pretty much unstoppable.
Hey guys, can you all help me track some things down to modify my character's look a bit more.
I just need a few things. Namely, a real nice black cloak, something to make my character increase their size by maybe 5-10% and a real cool looking great sword I can put into the vanity slot for that item. Any idears?

If you're high enough to go to Lavastorm, there was a really good two-handed sword from the questline with the gnomes in the dungeon there. Solusek Ro or something I think. My paladin used it all the time.

Have you done any crafting? The level 30 crafter cloaks are black with grey/white emblems on the back. Fancy looking cloaks are a bit sparse til T7-T9. There is also a craftable Nights of the Dead (Halloween) cloak that's black with orange spiderwebs. For a 2-handed sword at your level, I'd suggest doing an advanced broker search and just looking at what's available (Use the Dressing Room to view each on your character). For EQ2i's list of 2-handers, including no-trade drops, you can look here but few have images.

For your level range there's not a whole lot of cool looking weapons. Maybe the Orc Marauder Claymore. You can find it on the broker and see what it looks like (ctr+left click). It's probably pretty cheap, if not the orcs in Zek drop it a lot.
Cloaks... no idea. The Halloween cloak may work, but it's probably fairly expensive at this point. The only other cloak you can probably try for is the one from the Regent in Steamfont. I think you have to be 38 to equip it and I don't think any of them are black.
A bit of an update. I found some tin claymore for like 3 silver that looked a bit rusty and looks quite befitting of a dreadful shadowknight so I am glad for that. Also, I found that spider halloweeny cloak for 40gold. So far so good. Now to find a few nice charm slot items to get some particle effects onto my character and find some new mounts.
In your late 40s/early 50s you can get the flying carpet mount and the flaming rhino mount. I want to say the flaming rhino is around 1 plat after you get the necessary faction with the Sootfoot Talent Society (with them you do quest to gain negative influence). The flying carpet mount is free after a short quest chain.
Though if you refer-a-friend yourself (essentially paying for your month since your main account gets a month free), you can choose between the armored pinto and the deathcharger. The deathcharger is pretty fitting for a shadow knight.
Of course you have your fun spell at 20 that let's you summon a 20% speed black horse.
Of course you have your fun spell at 20 that let's you summon a 20% speed black horse.
Actually its only a 10% mount and it overrides my 25% speed cloak so it actually makes me slower than if I had never had that fucking mount to begin with.
I think I might just do that free month, mount thing- seeing as it is arguably one of the best mounts in the game.

Joining the <Recruit Yourself Club> for the free mount (55% and 10% XP Gain) is one of the smartest things to do. There really is no reason not to do it, because all you're doing is paying for an another month.
Of course I have 3 months from recruiting myself and two other people...
Anyone know when the next AA weekend is going to be? Sucked having it fall on a weekend I had to work.
I'm in the midst of arguing with myself about betraying my 75 necro to conjy because Halas looks so freakin' awesome. Plus I'm dead tired of the uber-long cast times on Necro. Not sure I care about losing tainted heals (trade off to stoneskin, planeshift, communion is fine by me), but FD is something I like (even if I can tinker my way to getting it back...I hate tinkering).
Still. I group a hell of a lot. Even in raids (we're doing EoF and Kunark stuff) things tend to die quickly, so the quick-cast AAs and better AoE are appealing.
Based on current broker prices, I figure I'm gonna sink 30-40 plat into Master Tank pet, Master DPS pet and Master Defensive Stance, just to start, plus a few more plat for Adepts on everything else (for now). I might be able to go cheap and finally level my Sage skills from 50 to 75, but I might be too lazy to do it, I dunno.
Help me think this through, pros or cons:
GOOD:
-I get to live in Halas (over Neriak). I was on test, I love it. I'm a frills junky, I like housing, furniture, appearance items, etc.
-I get nice fast cast times
-I get better AoE damage
-I get some nifty tools (winds of vellious, planeshift, communion, some buffs)
-Not losing my life all the time to make my class function (Life Burn, pet heal, heal other, lich)
WILL MISS:
-Feign Death without tinkering every 90 seconds.
-Tainted Heals. I know a few conjys. Its 6 of one, half dozen of the other tradeoff. Heal the damage off, or just have tough pets that can get even tougher, when needed.
-Life Tap. Healing myself during AoEs before the cleric does... priceless.
-Transfer Life. Nice to help out with keeping the tank up. But its not really my job. Damage is nice tho.
-Necro Rez. Nice to help out, again, and with FD i do get a role in recovering from wipes. But again, not necessarily core to doing damage more consistently on fast groups/raids.
-Endless Mana. Lich is a big one I'll miss. Conjys still do well with mana, I know, but its all down hill from the beautiful view of life that Lich offers, free from power worries. This one I'll miss alot. But I still would give it up if Conjy does deliver in the areas I'm looking at (faster casts, more aoe, some nifty pet tools)
Thoughts?
Oh.. I also am not fully through the cloud mount quest line, got 3 of the armor pieces for necros. Anyone know if I betray before I complete it, can I restart it as a Conjy? Or should I not fuck around and just finish before I betray. Its probably grey to me at this time.

I say betray your necro, but get your sage up at the same time. I know, I know, it's benefits me for you to get your sage up - well it does - but if you expert yourself out, along with the halas patch they are also implementing faster researcher times aren't they? If that's the case it's going to be a much cheaper change for you to come over to the good side, make your experts then research them in less than 30 days hehe. Maybe buy your master pet, it is an important part of your class.
Imo, in most fights power really isn't a concern, so losing lich wont matter too much.
If I go through with this my immediate goals are:
-finish cloud mount quest
-betray
-level up sage

My templar, need pretty much lvl 60 and up experts. I have most healing related stuff, but my damage spells and debuffs are adepts at best, which makes soloing in pew pew mode pretty tough haha. No rush though, as you know my paladin has been getting most of my play time lately. Remind me when you see me online next time, so I can browse his spell list and I'll make a more detailed list of stuff.
I have a level 40 sage not that it helps your case. My guild has a pretty hefty supply of material in our supply depot, so I'm hoping to hit 50/60 by the end of next week.

Yeah, we have tons of supplies in our supply box and our 3 collectors are rarely left idle, that and we have enough people depositing stuff on their own, so it's great. We just need someone to actually PL sage hehe. I have a lvl 23 sage that I was going to do that with, but I have enough trouble keeping my jeweller, alchy and armorer using up their rest xp and having fun AA grinding my pally, let alone adding a sage into the mix. Maybe once my jeweller hits 90..
Lots to do at 58. You could try a long weekend for $5 with SOE's new billing plan. Not rally cost-effective for the long-term, but it allows you to pay less than a movie ticket to test the waters without a larger commitment
