Gimp help

Hey guys I need some help with the program gimp.

I picked up an old genius easy pen tablet at a yard sell that had never been take out of it's box for 5 bucks. It works great, and I'm using gimp to try and color some stuff, but I want to make it so when I stop painting, and start again the strokes don't overlap and get darker. I messed with tons of options but couldn't get it to work. I'm hoping this is possible. I have the brushes opacity set to 34% so I can still see the pencil marks, I think this might keep me from doing what I want...

Any help?

Put the opacity to 100. When you draw the sketch that you're coloring in, draw it on a different layer, and then color beneath that layer at 100% opacity so you can still see the sketch.

They can help you more in the AC.
