The Gamestop launch I was at went smoothly. I preordered (I never do but I made an exception), showed up at 1145, paid at 1146, got in line behind ~75 people, and the game was in my hands at 1210. Pretty much best you could hope for.
When a gamestop clerk tries the preorder thing on me my responses go like this:
"No thanks"
If pushed-> "Why would I?"
If there's a benefit (free poster or something) no thanks usually works
If the sold out card is played - "No it won't, and if it does I'll get it elsewhere"
Quick and efficient. The one time a guy went after me aggressively I simply pointed out he "work at fucking Gamestop and thats the kind of authority that only intimidates particularly anemic toddlers."
I've gotta be honest though, almost every face in the game is pretty awful. Almost no emotion and just a generally wonky feel to them. A very minor thing, but I can't help but notice it is just about every cutscene.
i disagree with this pretty strongly. just watch niko's eye movements and smile half smiles and etc when the jamaicans are speaking gibberish to him. classic.
I got a laugh when I was doing a mission for Little Jacob and I swear it was like I looked at Niko and he looked at me and we both thought wtf is this guy saying? I could see it in his expression. This game has me completely hooked!
I was wondering if...
I get to bash Vlad's face in at some point, no spoilers beyond that, but that guy really deserves it....

Well yeah, small eye movements and half-smirks are pretty easy movements, but most everything else doesn't really feel very...defined I guess?
Of course, expressing facial emotion is a pretty big problem for games in general but for some reason it stands out more here. I'll agree that some of Niko's little looks are pretty awesome though.
The one where you need to go to the strip club kill those 3 guys. I can kill the first one okay, but the other two are surrounded by body guards.
I'm still annoyed with how GTA handles retrying missions, where you have to spawn all the way back from where you received your mission instead of just where you're suppose to be. I've tried that mission about 10 times and lost about $20,000 from the medical fees and the cab rides back to the area.
All this talk of AUTO-AIM and TARGET LOCK. I have YET to have the old GTA style target lock happen. Its free aim 24/7.
Also, never been in a multiplayer room with Auto-aim. Am I missing something, or luck, or foolish or........ect.
did you change the control options? theres an autoaim on/off option in there, and changing from standard to classic controls might mess with it too but i havent tested that.

I'm pretty sure you were just looking at the box art.
So my 360 RRoD'ed recently and I wanted to get GTA4 but what with my 360 out of commission (BTW, how long does it take to get it back?) and me planning on getting a PS3 in June, I just wanted to ask if there's anything significant that might make me wait or lean towards getting a certain version or not. I don't really care that much about the DLC and I suppose the good thing about the PS3 is free online, considering that I don't really like playing or paying for online that much due to insufferable, whiny 12-year olds who seem to have a fetish for cramming the mic all the way in their mouths and proceeding to verbally vomit inane pop-culture references.

Dude, you get a text message asking if you want to retry the mission. Accept and you get teleported into the mission, never mind where you need to be.
Ok, I just played deathmatch and the team deathmatch thing. Awesomeness.
My fingers now hurt, I played a bit too much.
Add me to the PS3 player list.
PS3 name is: EvilMonkeySlayer.
oh so the multiplayer is working again on the ps3? sweet
i'll be home in like 3 hours, so if you wanna add me, add BeastZero
Seriously, I'm bored at work and I know I said I'd organize a game tonight (earlier post, 9 PM EST) but guys, meet me halfway and add me to your friends list. I'll take it from there.
how do you kill people with the sniper rifle? I cant seem to do it on live.
I went on a rampage last night with the sniper rifle. Use the LEFT TRIGGER to scope. Then use the LEFT STICK to ZOOM in, you can zoom in really far. This makes taking out drivers and sprinters much easier.

I think the facial animations are wonderful. Especially Niko's and select other characters, though Roman's face sometimes looks a little weird looking in certain lights. I attribute that to him being a fat fuck.
Though I think they spent so much time on improving facial expressions on main characters that nobody characters kinda just got a quick paint-on face or something. I don't know if it was just this once but during a Faustin mission, there was a close-up with two bodyguards next to him, and Faustin's face looked wonderful. The guard's faces (who are very close to the camera) looked like they had gone halfway back to GTA:SA.

Ok quick but important Q. I just killed a store owner, will they respawn? The pop-up message said "You cant buy clothes if theres noone to man the register".

Dude, you get a text message asking if you want to retry the mission. Accept and you get teleported into the mission, never mind where you need to be.
Here's how I did it:
Kill the first dude in the security room with a baseball bat, that way noone will be alerted. Walk right past the one talking to the stripper and into the back where the other guy is getting a lapdance. Walk past that room towards the back exit so his guard can't see you, then toss a grenade into the room he's in. This will alert the whole club, and a few moments later you'll get the message that the remaining manager is making a run for it. Leave out the back exit and run around to the front where you'll see him get into an SUV and drive off. Get a car, chase him, and kill him.
Ok quick but important Q. I just killed a store owner, will they respawn? The pop-up message said "You cant buy clothes if theres noone to man the register".
So...will they come back or do I need to reload?
Also curious as to the answer of this question. If they don't respawn, then I'll have to find a new burger joint, as that stupid bitch that works the one near Roman's apartment called me fatso one time too many, so now the bullet lodged in her brain prevents her from making greasy, yet delicious burgers.
Turns out 'one time to many' = just one time total when you have a loaded pistol in your hand

I do mind where I need to be if it takes 5 minutes drive to there. Here's a thought to the developers, how about spawning back outside the area you died instead of making the player unnecessarily wait for the load times from spawning to the medical building, then the loading for where you started the mission, then traveling back to where you were, only to die after a few minutes and restarting the whole process over again?

This mission took me a few trys too.
I was being sneaky the first few times. I would go into the first room and beat the guy to death, so everyone in the club wouldn't pull a gun on me. But no matter what I did after that, I would be killed before I could kill the next two.
What worked for me was just capping the first dude, using his doorway as cover as I took out the rest of the guys in the club. You should of killed the second guy somewhere in that shoot out. The third guy ran out the back door and should be in a car as soon as you leave the club. If you have an automatic, you should be able to kill him before he drives away.

Man I got an invite from two of the PS3 Crew but was in the middle of a mission and needed to save. By the time I finished the invite was gone and I had no way to send a message or ask to join. A little weak. How about a game later tonight around 5 or 6 PST gentlemen? I'll be on the G&T Vent.

How about don't drive there? Accept the text and the screen fades out. Upon fading in, you are starting the mission again. I don't understand your complaint about this feature. Its exactly what you're asking for.
unless you are complaining about having to do the mission work again, in which case I would say you are crying over spilt milk.

Ps - Being at work sucks when I have nothing to do, but I need to stay here just in case something happens. I can hear Niko calling me...
Same here. Really wish the building would flood or something so I could head home for the day...grrr....

I get where you're coming from, but my approach to this issue is "I've seen a lot worse." Know what I mean? Some games have positively abyssmal facial emotion (hey there, Oblivion), and considering that at the most basic level, this is still very much GTA with very GTA-style graphics and 3D models, I think they did a pretty decent job.
I can kill all the dealers easily but when I escape I just get swarmed, the one time I managed to escape to the sea I got run over by an boat!
Random charactars are pretty gread btw. One guy called me poor and gave me money and the other gave me an mini mission!
Hardest mission I've played so far. It's a bit of luck, but basically you have to try to shoot your way out until you're in the front of the building. From there, if you have enough health, dash out the door to your left and there should be a cop car you can steal. Just run past the cops by the cop cars, cause there shouldn't be too many. From there, just drive like hell.

Be patient once the cops come. Cover every room slowly and work your way back to the main entrance/exit. Once you're there it seemed like cops infinitely respawn, so kill 5 or 6 and then rush out when there aren't many outside. Take a right out the doorway and go through the hole in the cyclone fence, then go left toward the parking lot you started in. Grab the first car you see and lose your wanted level.

Here in the UK it works like a charm, I don't know about anywhere else though.
It didn't work when I tried it yesterday, but that may have been because in the PS3 I had upnp set as enabled when I had it disabled on the router.
