I'm probably going to have to find a way to pick that up. Westerns are pretty awesome and that's a pretty solid bunch of people they had working on it.
I won't lie, that is the best story in the whole book. If you don't want to drop the money on the hardcover, then I'd suggest just grabbing the issue titled 'Western Legends.' It contains the Jeff Parker/Man Called Hurricane story, one by Fred Van Lente titled the Man From Fort Rango, and another one by Karl Kesel titled Red Wolf.
Most of the other issues were of middling quality. Gray and Palmiotti have a pretty weak one about two gunfighters that wander into a town populated by Skrulls, Slott does one about Two-Gun Kid that tied into his She-Hulk stories, Allred and Giffen have one about a hapless midget cowboy that's pretty enjoyable, but other than that they're mostly forgettable. Though there are some old reprints of Stan Lee/Jack Kirby stories that are a lot of fun.
Here's some scans from Deadshot, a criminally under read mini-series from Christos Gage that came out on the heels of Identity Crisis, and featured some of the best fight choreography I've ever seen in a comic book. But, since nobody read it, a trade was never released. Hopefully these scans will convince anyone who didn't read it to track down the back issues.
The setup for the story is that Floyd Lawton, aka Deadshot, has recently found out that a prostitute he spent a night with bore him a daughter. Upon discovering that both are living in the Triangle, a war torn slum inside Star City that's been claimed by three warring gangs, he decides to give them both a few million dollars to finance their move out of the city. It's important to remember that Lawton once had a son that was raped and murdered by a pedophile. So he's very invested in seeing to his daughter's safety. Unfortunately, he discovers that his daughter's mother has actually abandoned drugs and hooking, and turned into a moral, upstanding citizen devoted to lawfully orchestrating social reform in the Triangle. With both refusing to budge, Deadshot decides to start cleaning up the Triangle in his own way.
Issue One
Issue Two
Deadshot has just arrived at the apartment where his daughter and her mother live, only to find a crooked cop and some Russians threatening to rape and murder his new family. It doesn't go over well.
After interrogating the crooked cop, Deadshot decides to pay a visit to the mobster that sent the thugs after his family.
The next three issues feature Deadshot fighting Green Arrow, battling a bulletproof man, and finally going head to head with a horde of C-list supervillains.
I remember that series it was REALLY GREAT! I still have it in one of my DC longboxes it was one of the only series I didn't sell a couple of years ago.
One more, this time from Justice Riders by J.H. Williams and Chuck Dixon. It's an Elseworld where Sheriff Diana Prince forms a posse to take down ruthless railroad baron Maxwell Lord. Among the group are Kid Flash, Hawkman, and two other gentleman you might recognize.
Am I the only one who thinks it'd be kind of cool if it was revealed that the Justice Riders Booster Gold was actually the normal DCU Booster Gold traveling through the multiverse and getting into shenanigans?
For those wondering, yes, that is the cowgirl Wonder Woman that was killed in Countdown: Arena.
1) The Deadshot series was really great. It had a very "Death Wish" feel to it, which is as it should be.
2) Man, Blue Beetle in Justice Riders is pretty awesome. I guess I should read that.
I just read the Deadshot series. That was glorious. Is Deadshot normally that awesome in the rest of the stuff that he's in, or does he suffer from Taskmaster Syndrome?
Oh, just to clarify. I know Pi. She's a friend of mine. And she's not welcome in the Red Lantern Corps because she's a Blue Lantern-type person already.
Read the first issue for free here. It isn't selling nearly as well as it should be, and I'm convinced it's only because people are unaware of its existence.
Be sure to check out the first trade by Robert Kirkman and Tony Moore too, as it sets up the current events in the Brown/Rathburn series. You can read 26 pages of the Kirkman stuff right here. This preview also features a hilariously gory take on something that happened back in an old JLI annual. Which made reading it extra funny.
Hey do me a favor and do the prison scene
"I'm not locked in here" etc
"you're locked in here with ME"
still basically the most hardcore thing i've ever seen in comics
i mean, think about it. this dude doesn't even have any powers and he tells a whole prison full of crazy-ass murder-rapists to go fuck themselves quick, because if they don't he's gonna fuck 'em instead, and they ain't gonna like that shit

That's not really a 'scene', it's just something that is in the therapist dialogue on the next page, so it's not really all that hardcore with no action behind it, except the previous page where he throws his lunch in some would-be-shanker's face.

it wasn't so much his lunch as it was a pan full of boiling grease that seared the man so badly he died a few days later
so it's a little more hardcore than just a tuna sammich
Just ordered Invincible Vol. 1. If it's as good as I'm told, and going on the strength of that Brit page, that shall soon follow. Also I'm shamelessly posting this to get a subscription I'm loving this thread

And then he does, practically. Or rather, fucks over the head inmate and his cronies.
