Please help me buy "Driving Gloves!"

So, if there's anything my time here has taught me, it's that there's really nothing too bizarre/esoteric to ask for help with in the forum.

And that the help is, generally speaking, shockingly helpful. Thus, I once again ask for help.

Can anyone recommend a pair of quality "driving gloves?"

I've recently taken to spirited back-road driving in my new automobile, and I find that the blissful excitement this engenders causes the unwanted problem of sweaty hands!

Case in point: I was blowing through some mountain road curves, listening to the 4th Movement of "From the New World" (thanks to the awesome recommendation from another thread in this forum!) and I was most concerned my the volume of handsweat I was producing!

So you smart son's of bitches, what kind of gloves do I need to help curb this problem?

And, as always, thanks!

You don't actually need gloves for that, just a better grip on the wheel. Better doesn't mean tighter. Either way, Wilson's leather used to sell a nice pair but the one near me apparently doesn't sell jackets and gloves anymore, just gaudy purses.

If you wanted to overkill it, you could alway buy skydiving gloves!

Although those are like 30 dollars, and to this day I'm not convinced they aren't repackaged batting gloves

so..batting gloves maybe? You can also buy one of those grippy thingies that actually goes on the wheel itself, that may be a little more usuable all around

and of course, google yields http://www.leatherglovesonline.com/?referredByGoogleAdwords

Thanks for that link Bloch! My cursory search didn't turn that up. They're nearby, which is cool. It'd be nice to be able to try a pair on before buying. I don't mind spending the money if they're comfortable and grippy.

The problem's not with the ungloved grip; the grip's fine until the adrenaline kicks in, it's the sweaty hands which follow that bug me.

And the wheel itself is leather, and pretty nice, so I'd hate to cover it!

    Anyway, thanks guys!

Golf gloves might work, though they're usually used for a different type of driving (har har). I think you'd likely need to buy two separate gloves; most golfers only wear one glove, and so I think they're sold usually individually. But if you're having a tough time finding appropriate driving gloves, they'd do the trick. Most are made of leather, and they're pretty much tailor made to provide maximum comfort, grip and transmission of feeling, which is essentially what you'd need in a good driving glove.

Also look in to cheap batting gloves from a sporting goods store.

Whoa, thanks. Those gloves are pretty badass. Smart idea putting LEDs in them too.

Good idea about golf gloves. I've got a pair of bike gloves and a pair of weightlifting gloves (which, when I think about it, is kind of stupid... anyway...), but they're far too padded for the task at hand.

    Thanks for the suggestions folks.

but do you have a pair of ice cream cone gloves?

depending on what kind of 'spirited driving' you are doing, a helmet might be a good investment as well

So the company that makes mechanix gloves also makes setwear gloves, which I used when I worked in a theater. They're almost exactly the same except for neoprene knuckles and they're slightly cheaper(or at least were). If they have a style you like check out if they have the same ones in setwear

    Sparco

Too high end? Specifically designed for the task, however.

Unless you want to wear a flame-retardant suit along with them, I'm gonna go with no.

I'll second golf/batting gloves. Designed for grip with sweaty hands, and they're not padded.

Damn, thanks - the Sparco Speed gloves actually look pretty reasonable if they're as good as they claim to be.

Overkill? Most likely. But hell, if they do the job, why not. I saw a pair of Italian leather driving gloves for like $80 - %45 of the cost, I'm sure, was to have some designer's name on them or whatever.

Re: a helmet - well, maybe, but with the large blind spots my car has, I think it would do more harm than good.

Re: driving socks - heh, I'll have to look into those. I got a pair of Piloti shoes as a gift, so I think I'm covered on the feet. They make some pretty bad ass shoes, as long as you get a pair that isn't eye-burningly ugly.

Anyway, thanks again for all the tips folks.
