In the end, though, I think there are some design lessons we'll need to take away from this for future games. I'll admit that I did not expect the personality of the Prince to be so controversial. I don't remember there being nearly as much frustration over the lack of an accent in Warrior Within or The Two Thrones.
I hope this doesn't mean they'll make him adopt a british accent next time. I think they've learned their lesson about changing voice actors mid-stream, but I really want complete consistency with the characters between all the games.
Going back and reading these reviews... it's as if people forgot video games are supposed to be for fun, or something?
I honestly don't know how you could rate this game like that one UK thinger did. Unless the thing they are looking for in games is "arousing the desire to shove nails in your dick out of frustration" or something

SFX (A UK SF&F magazine) described the graphics as 'ugly' because there's cel-shading 'like a cartoon'.
The fighting was criticised because it was 'like Soul Calibur rather than Prince of Persia'.
I don't usually mind reviews, and couldn't care less if they differ from my opinion, but that is the wrongest review ever. Seriously, if they had made an editorial mistake and put a different review in the box instead, it couldn't be more wrong.

I want consistency for this because fuck damn did the guy doing the prince do an awesome job.
So I just finished the warrior lands, and I gotta say, I gotta sorta annoyed at the last one. I was expecting the final warrior level to be a really complex or full of jumps, instead it's just use of the green pad, which is frustrating. That and the fight was exactly the same for the first half, and then? You just dodge around till he kills himself. Blah.
I'm still enjoying the game, but like Assasin's Creed, I kinda feel they did a lot of misteps I hope gets fixed in the sequels.

And thinking on it more, people were just so pissed at the change of voice actor and general shift in tone to complain about the American accent in WW, and we were just so relieved to get him back with TTT.

I completely agree. Using the green pads didn't bother me so much (except that you have to start over if you run into something), but the last "fight" with the Warrior was completely pointless. It took me a few minutes to figure out that you're not actually supposed to do anything. :x
Also, is there some trick with the enemies you have to use the gauntlet on before you can attack them? I can never seem to get the button combo right, and just end up mashing buttons until I get it. Is it just me, or is this normal?
Overall though, I think it's a very well put together game. I really enjoy the conversations between the Prince and Elika; they've made me care about the characters more than most games. So props to Ubisoft for that. 8-)
Button combo? On the PC version at least there is a button assigned to the Gauntlet. So uh... dunno. I usually parry the next attack and follow with a gauntlet, or just run up to them while they are "charging up" and do it when they are vulnerable.
Played a fair bit of this game on the PS3 and I am FUCKING loving it. One of my favourite games of the year so far. Plenty of personality in the characters, game flows really well (yes...easy etc etc), incredibly pretty and very satisfying.
Remember when the prince said to Elika somthing about the visions just being Araman trying to play with them, and she replied that they aren't from Araman? Maybe Orm. was telling the prince to bring Elika back to help kill Araman, instead of just trapping him again.
IDK, just me being hopeful the Prince wasn't that big of an idiot maybe.
Sorry if this has been brought up before but I'm at my parent's house, and they have 56k so I can't really dig through the thread. I'm having audio problems. Sometimes the prince will move his mouth, there will be subtitles, and no VO audio. then Elika will do they same, and out of nowhere both of their VO audio will come in together. Sometimes it never comes, and sometimes it ends out of nowhere.
"Hey where do we nee-" when the subtitles say Hey where do we need to go. Also, sometimes the music cuts out, and the rest of the audio stays (wind, footsteps). Anyone have any ideas on why this is happening?
Was there actually any contraversy over the prince VA after the game was out?
I know everyone was talking about how shitty the dialogue was before release, but I don't think anyone who played the game who doesn't hate good things could say the dialogue was bad.
So every time I start this up it locks up while loading the first level.
alt tab. The loading screen will load just a little bit more. (it spins or whatever). Keep doing this until it wont spin anymore (2-3 more times) and wait, itill load normaly, but you wont see the loading animation. This happened to me.
Ive gotten maybe through a 4th of the game, and I dont enjoy the collectathon that is required to continue but its worth it so for. I dont enjoy the voice actor, but if I were to in fact ignore the previous games, the character and voice works superby in my opinion. I kind of take the prince to be a new link, that the prince in a sense is just a legend that you become, from a random dude originally(or maybe a random time's prince). Over all the game is really great so far...

Going by a bunch of comments on Eurogamer (yes, I know) people will bitch about anything and everything. The voice acting is silly and generic, the graphics are boring and generic, the platforming is too easy and generic, the combat is stupid and generic.
I've been watching my friend play this (he got it for Christmas) for several hours and I have to say, the fact that the Prince is Drake from Uncharted makes me really, really like him.
I liked Elika as a character and the dialogue in general was pretty good.
Just wish Ubi while saying they are not milking old franchises would stop ending things with fake credit rolls that let you continue to do stuff in order to unveil the fact that there will be a sequel.
I liked a lot of stuff about the game but combat was very bad while looking incredibly stylish when you pull off decent combos. And some areas seemed ridiculously difficult to get to short of using some combination of any number of plates. I was trying to get the Asssassins View trophy and I can't just drop/grip down there from the top of the tower and I couldn't see howelse to get up there. And the flying power combined with that end sequence of about 30 plates with no recovery spot was NOT fun. Nor was flying directly over the exact spot its going to send me to only for it to start flying off in another direction for some reason for more avoiding of stuff.
Just completed this and thoroughly enjoyed it. A good, fun game.
[controversial]I love the art style[/controversial]
I love the gameplay apart from the Wings (yellow) and Hand (blue) power plates
Step (red) I like, it's like a big boost mechanism.
Breath (green) I like, it's just like "hey, you like climbing, right? Why not do it like Spiderman?!"
I like the combat system, I like the boss fights, although sometimes they could have done with a bit more of a lead up to the battle, like the Concubine does with her disappearing and her trickery and such. Final Warrior battle spoiler:
Anyone else get reminded of setting a tank on fire and runnin' like hell in L4D?
Storyline is your fairly average "bad shit just went down, save the world" effort with a few nice twists in it.
VA is great.
It's even got your classic "collect all this useless shit if you want some achievements" to keep people playing that little bit longer
Thumbs up from me. Not sure if it's GotY worthy...but definitely the top 10

I hear it's going on sale after Xmas, if you want to wait. I would definitely recommend picking it up, it's lots of fun.
I just like to sit back and watch the animation and the the story unfold.

it is very good those bad reviews of it are very funny to me
When an area is corrupted? No so much. Still looks good.

The flying bits still suck though. I don't know why they included them because everybody buys these games for the jumping and climbing on shit.
Yeah, if they're gonna make you fly, make it a damned magic carpet (also make it fun, of course).
(all of SoT, first hour of WW, about 15 minutes of TT at someone else's house)
hope that doesn't make me a bad person
It's probably the art
Every time I had one of those flying sections I just found myself thinking, "Why can't I just climb this myself?"
Still an awesome game though.

They have great writers, but they just started doing game reviews. It's becoming very clear that whoever is doing the game reviews shouldn't be.
I never asked for this!

Also, screw the Concubine. Making me jump all over the place for no reason. Grrr.
Fantastic.

EDIT: also this beats L4D as my game of the year.
