When I rented this game I only died a lot in the first one or two stages on normal, and I even beat Azel in one fight, and it was in general all relatively easy to me.

I must have been on pure gaming adrenaline from punching fuckers in the face because this game is hard as nipples and I have had to relearn it completely. Jesus it's hard. I forgot how amazingly fun God Hand is.

    Curses!

That is because it does not exist.

Well that would explain it, wouldn't it?

This reminds me of something that I always think whenever I see the Okami Wii thread.

I think a God Hand remake/port would work better on the 360 than the Wii. No second analog stick on the Wii would mean dodging is handled by moving the nunchuk or something, and that could mess you up in the heat of battle if it doesn't register right.

So Monday I am trying my luck against devilhand and, as usual, am getting my ass reamed. After the ninth time of me dieing horribly and getting less than four hits in, the power to my place flickers then cuts out completely. Annoying, but I didn't think anything of it since my entire street had been having power issues all week. As I get up to call the electrical company my phone started ringing. It was my mom and, in a frantic tone of voice, she starts asking me if I'm alright, and how she heard what happened and just wanted to check in to make sure I'm ok. o_O
After a bit I got her to calm down and explain exactly why she was calling; it turns out we had some freak tornados hit the area and they caused a royal fuckton of damage (I was, of course, completely oblivious to this until she called me). Really though, part of me will always wonder if it actually was the tornados, or if God Hand simply beat me so bad that my mother felt it over 1000 miles away.

Actually, I find another Capcom game's ball-busting difficulty is pretty similar to God Hand -- Monster Hunter. Somewhat off collision detection on a few monsters' moves (Plesioth's tail, fix it Capcom!) and the way they can slide a little along walls when they're charging are the only real sore spots. Aside from those, when you screw up and a meat-train connects with your all your major organs simultaneously, you know it's your fault.

God hand gets it down perfect though.

So, are there any good tips for God Hand? I'm not having trouble, but just like in every other ballbustingly hard game, I want to master it like I master my penis. Is having a huge list of Square moves good? I bought all the attack slot upgrades but I find a lot of my damage comes from making them block, then spinning backfist (is this the best guard breaker by the way?), then just lay into them with a full square combo to a high kick and send them flying into a wall. Should I mayhap then, load up on big slow hits to make enemies block? I know that right now with Chin Music and that spinning elbow (two-hit) move 70% of the time when an enemy blocks I just break it through damage by accident, which is not what I want.

If I had to share one thing I've learned whle playing God Hand the last couple of days, it's to use the mule kick for both juggles and knockdown & stomps. It's way easier to hit with than the somersault and enemies block it far less than if you knock down with sweep kicks.

My strategy tends towards mule Kick, stomp, mule kick, stomp, mule kick, stomp, mule kick stomp.... occasionally with a sidestep thrown in to help the mule kick connect.

If you can use a forward-dodge with the same dodging effect as a back or side dodge, use it instead. It's easy to get addicted to the easier-to-use side and back dodges to dodge everything when well timed ducks save you a lot of time.

I weave almost exclusively. Also, Rigor, I couldn't play that way. There's no point in playing a hard game if you off-set the difficulty with an easily spammable set of attacks. I try to use everything in my arsenal in God Hand, and it makes it a lot more entertaining. Might buy the Mule Kick to replace it with the Barrel Roll Kick though, as the BRK has way too much charge-up time and I never use it.

    Useful tips

    1. Charge Attacks. Double-tapping forward will make you dash and if you press square while dashing, you'll do a lunge and send normal enemies flying. Press X and you'll do a sliding kick. Very useful for clearing out "grunts" near elites.

    2. You can do a sweep kick to knock enemies down. Simply press triangle while doing a forward dodge.

    3. When an enemy is on the ground, press up and triangle at the same time. This will let you do an ax kick which can also be charged. If this connects it will send them into the air. Doing down and triangle will do a rising uppercut (Not the charged punch from the beginning so don't confuse them) and up and triangle will do a kick that sends them flying across the arena. Keep in mind that enemies can just backflip in the air to avoid these moves. They might not though.

    4. Yes Man Kablaam and Chain Yanker. This is the most useful combo of moves in the entire game. YMK can be found behind Elvis's chair when you first fight him and Chain Yanker can be found in the Arrow Bridge stage, right before the level with the Conchita Gang fight. Chain Yanker is a roulette move that takes up one orb, but it will instantly grab an enemy from almost anywhere, pull them to you, and dizzy them. This includes bosses. When an enemy is dizzy you can use 2 YMK's on them and give yourself a lot of God Hand power back. Simply dodge-cancel the first one after hitting and then cancel out of the second one by using the pummel command.

Barring the charge attacks, I beat the entire game without using these moves, not because I didn't know about them, but I either missed them (Yes Man Kablaam) or I just didn't know how to use them. On one hand, this makes me an idiot for not figuring out these things so I would have a much easier time. On the other hand, that makes me more hardcore for beating the game without them so that's neat too.

Personally, I never used the leg sweep but it can be useful in areas. For instance, some areas of the game as well as some fairy challenges let you knock enemies out of the area and if you do, they're pretty much dead. If you do a leg sweep on an elite near one of those edges and then knock them up with an axe kick, they're screwed. You're either going to knock them away with your air kick or they're going to backflip to dodge you and go right off the edge.

Halibut, I wish I knew of a place to get it. I'm pretty sure the soundtrack came bundled with the game in Japan and didn't get a stand-alone release. The album is called God Tracks though so if you search around, you might find something.

On the leg sweep, I found it to be a great help against the midget douchebag squad. It is easily spammable and knocks them out of their rushing charge attack, which makes dealing with those fuckers coming at you from every direction a lot easier. Even better, it juggles them and lets you get in an easy combo that you can just loop over and over again (sweep, jabx3, roundhouse, repeat).

This is the third time I've played God Hand. First time I was like that IGN reviewer (a fag), second time I loved it, played it casually, got to Tiger Joe and then took it back to the store I rented it from. I forgot about it for a while, figured I wouldn't enjoy it a second time around, and then saw this thread almost a year later.

Thank god for PA. My love for this game grows every day, and it's simple b-game beauty makes me want to shed tears of joy. The ravenous love this game commands is there for a reason, and that reason is the fact it's done SO WELL with such seemingly little effort. People complain about the level design; it's beautiful in its simplicity. Why play a fast-paced beat 'em up if you had huge stages with not enough enemies to occupy them? You'd either have them go on so long you'd be continuing too often for it to be fun and stretching yourself thin, or exploring a level devoid of foes.

The combat is deceptively deep and it took me until this third shot around that I've really started to unmask it for myself. I'm really blown away by what is there and how well it's hidden underneath the guise of just a simple game.

God Hand is like a brilliant serial killer who makes himself look terminally stupid in order to keep the authorities off guard.

(I guess this post is for the benefit of Djiem, but I really just felt like describing how much I adore this game)

Getting hit and I think picking up items drops your level down. That's fine though, you should only reach level die when you're ready for it. I always hated getting to level die because I wasn't good enough to fight the enemies at that level but by the end of the game, I was always getting end stage results saying I had killed over 50 enemies on level die and like 3 on level 2.

If you want to raise yourself to level die though, do a lot of forward dodges to avoid attacks and taunt. Those both raise your bar and taunt also raises your God Hand meter.

Chain Yanker always does it but it's a roulette move and Granny Smacker, which you get in the Electric Cage Match level in Stage 4, lowers the amount of hits needed to cause dizziness if it hits. It's really slow though. I think it's slower than Yes Man Kablaam.

Guardbreakers is I think the reason the mach punches are in the game. Since enemies almost always block several hits into them you can just put a guard break after it and pow mass guardbreaks all around. Just need to learn how many hits most enemies block.

    Also for after guardbreaks.
Machpunch, guardbreak, machpunch, normal combo, pummel/walljuggle.
I keep machpunch out of the normal combo since on some enemies (like demons) in can get you into trouble if it's in your normal combo. It also is great for interrupting attacks, you can just throw it out before a move is coming and they run into a wall of fists. If they're leaping they get juggled.

Btw the highest dps combo during godhand in the game is Jab3, straight3, left hook 3, uppercut3.
Try it while godhand in comparison to your current combo and watch demons drop in one godhand in die.

It's even worse with the god versions.

This is making me want to setup my ps2 again. It's too addictive right now I must hold off.

Mach Punch is useful on enemies on like the Magnificent Five, the little thief guys, and Dr. Ion. None of them block so you can just wail on them with moves and they can't do anything about it. I never really used it though. I didn't want to take the time to constantly be switching that move in and out, and I also thought I might forget to switch it out, so I went the slightly less dangerous route and used stuff like the Sugar Gene Combo.

Yeah once I get Floating Butterfly for jab, straight, butterfly, uppercut I don't need machpunch anymore so generally replace it.

I started another hard mode yesterday and got reverse sweep again. Not significant, you usually get it! No, no you don't, and on both my aborted kick me runs I got up to the stage 1 minibosses without this move and just couldn't get past them.
Now I'm finding this kick me run so much bloody easier. It makes such a huge difference to be able to time a sweep more accurately because you get given a bit of time to guardbreak one guy in a group of two while the other one is getting up.
