Against Angra, it's better to just use lots of multi-hit quick moves in order to get pummels on him. The Tension bar will fill quickly enough that way without YMK.

The time I beat arena challenge 51 I used one single YMK. It was the most risky YMK I ever did, but it paid off and won me the match.

How was your combo set up and what moves did you use savooipeerd. I am going to have a good crack at him during the two weeks I'm away since all I'll have to play is godhand.

I don't have a save with my exact combo, so this might be a little off, but this is what I think I had:
    • Zen Revival and Enlightenment in the roulette wheel; even the damage a Shaolin Blast and a Crescent Kick do fails in comparison to what you can do with what is effectively 130% extra health. I made it a personal rule not to use them unless I got the enemy to less than half health, because if I needed them before that the attempt was pretty much doomed to fail anyway.
    • Godly Chop as my guard breaker, assigned to the X button; I always put my guard breaker on the X button, because it's much more reliable than back + square. Godly chop is slightly faster than God Breaker, and the 5 extra damage that does isn't really worth it.
    • Haymaker of God on back + X; a nice balance of speed of damage, used for a quick bonus when the enemy will not attack because of the animation he is in, but can still dodge out of it when attacked normally (like right after a Divine Smash)
    • First three moves of the square combo are picked for speed, in my case Jab of God -> God Uppercut -> Godly Straight. The enemy almost always blocks after three or four attacks, so I manually did a guard break right after those three, and immediately back-dodged if he dodged it. Out of those three, Jab of God as the opener is the most important, as it is the fastest move in the entire game. I also tried experimenting with Chin Rocker as the opening move, but ultimately it just made me careless. Still, I had some minor success with it from time to time so it might be worth to try it out for yourself.
    • Some Multi-hit moves for the rest of the combo, in my case Mach Speed Jab 2, Stinging Bee and God Hook to finish it off; these moves may not do the most damage, but it's a lot easier to dizzy him with that combo. Because I always did a guard break after the first three hits I only got to this part of the combo when he was stunned after a guard break, dizzy, or if I was using the God Hand, so I didn't really have a problem with him parrying.
    • Yes Man Kablam on back + square, Hand Plant Kick on back + triangle, and Right Roundhouse 3 on triangle. I pretty much never used these during the fight, except for that one critical YMK.
My tactic mainly consisted of dodging his attacks, taunting whenever I could and trying to hit him when I got close. If he was dodging my main combo I dodged out of it and tried again. This is mostly a battle of endurance, so avoiding damage was always more important than doing damage. If I had a God Hand charged up I always waited for him to use up his first, a lesson I learned the hard way. A fun little fact: he will aways unleash his God Hand right after he has been pummeled.

All in all this might not be the most effective setup, but it works. And, more importantly, it's fun: I beat challenge 51 without abusing charge moves, repeatedly launching the enemy against a wall, using YMK to farm TP or roundhouse cancelling, and in the end that made the victory so much more rewarding.

    Cool thanks.

Just one mistake is that straight is faster than jab. by .1 of a second.
    It's also got longer reach.

But I'll go with Straight, jab, uppercut.

I noticed myself that if you put chinmusic (for some reason this move is beautiful despite it's crap damage), floating butterfly, stinging bee on after another in your combo somewhere, he will upddoge all three without trying to do anything at all. Sometimes this will catch him in the middle of what he is doing, and never got me in trouble unless he guarded randomly (I'm really good at hearing the countered sound and backflipping). I've caught him once and dizzied him with this. I just haven't learnt how to side dodge his more vicious godreels. I'm sick of trying to run the fuck away from shaolin, I'd rather learn to side dodge it at close range.
It's the major source of my deaths at this point, heh.

Oh man, I said it the first time I played it, and I'll say it again. Level 17 in the fighting arena is one of my favorite levels in any game ever. It's just so frantic and viscous. It’s just bodies flying everywhere for a good two minutes, and when it’s all said and done you stand alone wielding a spiked baseball bat with the bodies of dozens of enemies scattered around.

    So awesome.

The first move you usually pick up is a reverse sweep (I usually pick it up as a drop, but it can be bought at the first visit to the store I believe) - I map it to down-triangle, with a snap kick (I forget the actual name) on triangle. These two moves are a huge help - the snap kick will throw enemies across the stage if they're dizzy or on a counter hit. The sweep sets you up for stomps, and you quickly discover pummels/stomps/spanking to be an excellent method for taking an enemy down quickly.

It's worth noting that enemies can interrupt you out of a stomp (but not pummel/spanking), so be ready with a quick backflip if you see one winding up a strike.

Personally I never bother with stomps since, like Chance said, you can still be hit during them. I use the Up + Triangle kick for enemies on the ground and then do whatever I want afterwards. Usually I knock them away with Up + Triangle again.

Once I learned about the free sweep kick you start the game with I never bothered with the reverse sweep. Just up dodge then hit triangle right after.

I think the biggest obstacle with Gold and Silver on hard is that you have to fight two elites at the same time right before them. If you don't care about being cheap though, you can use your God Hand to kill one of them. Taunt and dodge the other one to refill your tension meter again, and once it's full you can beat up the final elite (if you can't handle him one-on-one you shouldn't be playing hard yet anyway). If you do it right you can start the battle with Gold and Silver with a full tension meter, a few roulette orbs and (almost) full health, which should be enough to take out at least one of them of pretty quickly.

Yeah, I can polish off one elites just fine, but when there's 2 ganging up on me it's pretty hard for me to separate them.

And I guess I really shouldn't start a normal run through at the same time too.

Every attack you have now should have an "attack name" 2 by now. It's the exact same attack with extra damage. So, basically, you have my respect because goddam man. First time past the Doc with base attacks. Oo

I still can't beat silver and gold on a fresh hard mode kick me run. I got past them with a clear run without using the god moves (jab of god, etc) or drunken twist, but I just can't do it with the tiny lifebar you get in clear run.

I'm fully convinced they started out with a fighting game and decided to give people the godhand when they started playing it themselves.

I love God Hand so much. I think it's the best $20 I've ever spent, in fact. I lent my copy to a friend for a few months and just went to play through it again and let me say that apocalyptic beatdowns have never been more entertaining. I can't believe I went two play-throughs of the game without appreciating the glory of the Ball Buster.

I've put nearly a hundred hours into God Hand, and I'm still finding new things about its combat system. I've yet to try out even a small fraction of the moves. What a fantastic game. Let's talk about God Hand again.
