as far as the anvil, i guarantee you that if you get a stonecrafter making stone crafts asap, you'll have >1000 worth of goods to buy an anvil with

Yeah, but it's pretty useful for fishing/growing plants/taking care of the batshit crazy dwarves who for some reason think water is better for them than alcohol when they're injured.

Okay. So. I know I said I would start today, but somebody rather unexpectedly brought their 360 over with a copy of GTA IV and I have been playing it for the past 8 hours or so. So uh. Either tomorrow or the day after, if the second person wants to switch places with me, that would be fine to.

alt-printscreen should grab the currently active window into clipboard where you can paste it into whichever image application you're using.

check to see that construction wasn't suspended (in red)
sometimes they can't get to it or whatever, so you have to manually re-enable construction

That is just it. They will not even let me put a wall there to be built. I have to go through this convoluted process of removing the door, building a wall, building the second floor wall, and then removing the first floor wall and putting the door back in.

Okay, I finished. However, I have a really terrible internet connection. I do have the latest build of the game. Is there a way I can grab only the essential files to transfer? I could make it to a friend's house and upload from there, but I think even that would take a while. (wait.. just checked.. apparently the bulk of the data is the save files.) I will try to get to a friend's house in the next day or two to upload.

    oh.

You cant build a wall construct over a floor construct. Just build a plain wall construct on that empty space above the door.

Though it might help if you included pictures so we can see what you're doing.

I just rocked up at my house. I'm going to re upload it once it is down, in my filefront account and put it into a folder named dwarf fortress or some such, and have a link to each stage in the OP, every time it happens.
Also I think we have plenty of people and I'm going to cut the blank end the list off.

Artreus when you have the write up complete. If you're really wanting to post it to here straight away that is cool, but I'm going to copy and throw it in the OP anyway, spoilered and all that.

Also in future can people just zip the save folder back up. It makes it less gay with double installs and so on. Also since some people are using mac which means your game files won't work anyway, just the saves, no .exe and what not. (This isn't me FYI)

So I going to unzip artreus' check that all is working, rezip just the save file and send a PM with the link to the next person and instructions. The link will also be in the OP for anyone who wants to check it out.

You may want to include the init folder as well (also tilesets if you're really into it like that).

Oh, by the way. I changed some of the keybindings to accommodate my laptop. If you just want to rip out the saves you should be fine, otherwise, the move selector up/down thing have been changed to [ and ] instead of - and + or whatever. Should be easy enough to find.

I think that is the "interface.txt" file, and all the game changes (if you made any in the init.txt) are in that file.

ohhh, no I just did a default everything but one or two of the keys.

I am however, regretting buying those damn camels. Useless fuckers. The musk oxen reproduce much faster.

Instructions for the next person: (Spoilered because I have not posted my write-up yet)
Everything should be pretty straight-forward. The workshops are all on the main level with some stockpiles below them. Bedrooms are on the second floor. The thing out front is a guard house. Feel free to build up the walls if you want, I just did not think it really needed to be any bigger than I made it. I dug down pretty far in one area to see if I could find any fun materials. I used the regional prospector to make sure I would find adamantine, so it is there somewhere. Also giant chasm to the north. Those tunnels to the north with the big hole dropping down that is not all the way completed is going to be a man-made waterfall. I started on it pretty late, so whoops. I have some mechanisms and floodgates made already. You just need to finish making sure the hole is actually a hole and not a bunch of rooms stacked on top of each other, if you know what I mean by that. All you will need to do then is dig into the river from the north or east and you should be good. Might want to dig out a bigger hole actually, that shit fills up quick. Basically I wanted to make a large, underground water source. It is not really necessary though as it stays warm enough that the river does not freeze in the winter.
