So I was gonna make a thread for pets

I was gonna post some pictures of the newborn kittens our cat had a couple weeks ago, but, well, another cat got in and killed them. All except one, the one who hid in the back of the box. At least I think it was some other cat, because they all died from bites to the neck, and all the dead kittens were left inside the box as they'd been when they'd died. One of them was still biting the blanket they'd been born on, and I had to pull it out of its mouth. The mother cat is wandering around, moaning, and won't go in to feed the survivor. You guys know what I'm supposed to feed a 2 week old kitten?

Man, I'm pretty bummed right now, but at least one of them survived, and since the mother is favoring one leg I think she got injured trying to protect them. Which means she didn't kill them, which is a relief in and of itself because she's a nice cat and had she killed those kittens I'd probably have had to shoot her.

Goddamnit.

Man, that's really terrible. A similar thing happened to some my cat's kittens years ago, except we couldn't save any of them. :(

As for caring for it, I hope this helps.

Ok Volu I can understand how you feel, but step back a moment and think about this. Cats aren't people so why are you holding a cat to human morals? It may not make sense to us why an animal would do something like that, but killing an animal for doing something that's pretty normal for it (unless it's actually a threat to you or another person) is kind of whack to me. Whichever cat did that was just fucking following its cat instincts.

Males may kill kittens that aren't theirs to force the female into fertility.

And Dru, whatever did it is a threat to the surviving kitten. There have been a couple male cats wandering the property, but its not like I'm gonna shoot them willy-nilly. I'm just pretty mad right now.

As a staunch pro-life proponent, I feel that the cat was simply being selfish and killed the kittens to protect its lush, extravagant lifestyle, and so we should totally fucking kill its ass.

Yeah. I love cats, and would be devastated if something like this happened to me - however they're animals, and they don't act out of maliciousness. It's remotely possible that there's something wrong with the offending cat's brain chemistry and it's more aggressive than it should be, but there's things you can do to help it that aren't killing it (like cat anti-anxiety meds).

I know, but if you're going to be taking care of the kitten inside anyway (since the mother won't), then the kitten should at least be safe from outdoor/feral cats. Ain't really no need to be killing any cats even if you determine which one it was.

yeah, meds for a stray cat is pretty uh..well, let's just say that ain't gonna happen

but I do maintain that there's no moral imperative to kill the cat responsible since it's just being a cat

So just some things to note from this site until the mother starts taking care of the kitten again:
Kittens under 3 weeks can’t control their body temperature. Keep them on a heating pad, set on low, wrapped in towels (at least two layers of towels, or one towel folded over) should cover the pad.
Unfortunately, cow’s milk is not nutritious enough for kittens - they will slowly starve to death on it. It also causes diarrhea which is extremely dangerous for young kittens.

Your first purchase should be a pet nursing kit and kitten formula, available at pet stores. The nursing kit usually includes a bottle, several extra nipples, and a cleaning brush.

There's a bunch more stuff there, but I would try to get to feeding as soon as possible.
