Interesting watching Spirited Away/Princess Mononoke in Japanese with English subtitles. The subtitles and dub provide more words than are actually spoken in the Japanese. There are more explanatory phrases.

I've complained about this several times before when we've been discussing Ghibli films. The worst is the subtitles where there is no dialogue in the Japanese version.
So I just saw Howl's Moving Castle for the first time last night.
I'm quite willing to put it in my top 3 favorite movies.
I don't want to say Howl's is the weakest Ghibli movie, but it's pretty close. There are many that are superior to it
Christian Bale is so good in it though
He has one hell of a voice I tell you what
The weakest one is The Cat Returns
Good god, that movie blew
Couldn't disagree more. Had great casting, it was funny, and it's very easy to jump into. It had a mix of low and high brow humor, clever dialog, and a good mix of mild action while being very lighthearted. Overall a really great family film. I've shown it to various friends and family and I've yet to hear a bad review from anyone.
I'm also not keen on referencing Rotten Tomatoes, but generally any movie they list with a rating at or above 90% (92% in this case) is probably pretty good.
guys, the last bit of howl's moving castle is not even that difficult to grasp.
black door leads to magic places -> took sophie to the past where she needed to be, led by that ring -> howl caught a falling star and gave it his heart so it could stay alive, but entered into a contract so he would stay with him -> sophie finds howl after she realizes he is missing his heart and where it is -> finds howl, he takes her to calsifer -> takes howl's heart and puts it back in him
tadaaa

Howl's Moving Castle:
also the scarecrow was some dude. it was mentioned on a radio broadcast or something. it wasn't important at all

in the book it is much more clear what he was, and what his purpose was. in the movie it was just kind of like that last bit was a cute little extra
wasn't he
some sort of important court magician
in the book?
edit: yes, he was.
Wizard Suliman is the Royal Wizard and personal advisor to the King of Ingary. He comes from Wales, where he was known as Benjamin Sullivan. He was Mrs Penstemmon's second-to-last pupil. When the Witch of the Waste threatens the King of Ingary's young daughter, he is dispatched to the Waste by the King. There he starts growing bushes and flowers, but the Witch catches him. He projects most of his magic onto a scarecrow, which Sophie will talk life into. The Witch puts him to pieces and sells off his skull and guitar. She reassembles his body with parts of Prince Justin's (the head in particular) and calls him Gaston. She uses him to find out about Wales in order to get to Howl, then casts a spell on him that turns him into a dog. Calcifer guesses that one of his aliases is Percival.

yea, in the movie
wizard sulliman was made into a woman and kind of a badguy, so that is completely different

But Volyu says Ran-ee-aaaaaaah-dos to make it sounds more exotic.
Is this not correct

I believe my mouth was hanging open when he popped that dude's head off with the arrow the guy just shot at him.
