VGA for Wii
That_GuyI don't wanna be that guyRegistered Userregular
So I was looking around online for a VGA cable for my Wii. I was hoping to hook it up to a computer monitor to use on those slow days at work. I found the VDIGI Electronics VD-W2 Wii VGA cable for sale and was wondering if anyone uses it. We have 2 or 3 19 in Dell Moitors at work and I was thinking it would be a good investment. I have never heard of these before, so I hope to iliset opions before I take the pludge.

I don't have em but I would assume they'd be fine. Just know that any games you run that aren't in pro-scan won't display on your monitor (pretty much just a bunch of gamecube games).

I use it on a Samsung Syncmaster 215Tw. I like it a whole lot. It's pretty easy to set up, so long as you can switch your Wii over to HD before you swap in the VGA adapter.
OK, I have tv converter box, and it lets me input my Wii thru component to 480p widescreen on the monitor I have, a 19'' LCD.
But... since it's a computer monitor, it's aspect ratio is 16:10 instead of 16:9...
So the image is vertically stretched a bit...
Does the VDIGI cable stretch the image as such, or does it output to the monitor with tiny bars at the top/bottom to make it the right widescreen aspect ratio?

This means games that don't do 480p. Never heard it called pro-scan before, OP might not know.
There are a few Wii games that do not do 480p, here's a list:
Ant Bully, The
Grim Adventures of Billy & Mandy, The
Call of Duty 3
Gotlieb Pinball Classics
Harvest Moon Magical Melody
Metal Slug Anthology
Rampage:Total Destruction
Rapala Tournament Fishing
Rayman Raving Rabbids (despite what it says in the manual)
Super Swing Pangya Golf (pangya)
Scarface
Tigar Woods 07 (PAL version)

Trauma Center: Second Opinion also doesn't support 480p.
Actually it does, just not 16:9. Yeah...super retarded.
Are you sure? I use a VDIGI to connect my Wii to a computer monitor, and can't play SO because it's not producing a 480p signal. If there's some way to fix this, I'd love to hear how.

I rented it when I first got my Wii and I remember playing it just fine without changing my video settings (which were at 480p) but the game was stretched. I also read some stuff that said the same.
I'm reading conflicting information on the web. The IGN review echoes what I said above, some people say neither.
I've got a cable and it's great! .... except mine's now on the blink, not sure why it's done it but the picture keeps flicking on and off every few seconds.

I've emailed them but don't hold out hope
Have faith. Mine had some flickering and shadowing issues, and I actually managed to get a replacement from them. Took about a month from when I shipped out the broken cable, but they did actually help me.

Pro-scan is short for Progressive Scan, which is what that little p in 480p stands for.
Not that anyone else is playing it but me, but Target Terror also does not support 480p.
I sort of wish that the early rumblings about the Wii having a VGA output port were true. I'm using component with mine and it works decently.
If the Wii had had a VGA out natively, it still wouldn't have worked with interlaced-only games, because VGA can't carry an interlaced signal. Even if they'd mandated all Wii games to support 480p (which would have pissed off SNK, among others) there'd still be Gamecube titles that didn't.

Prepare for jaggies, though.

That may or may not be complete.
