Let me make this very clear, because there seems to be a lot of confusion and taking something I said out of context.

No animation times are being changed because of Shields. Animations are getting looked at very closely because of Shields. They are being lengthened or shortened on their own merit, because they don't look quite right as they are.

All of the Shield versions of animations are for the most part, exactly the same animation with some modifications to the left arm and blending into a slightly different combat ready animation. They can and will use the same animation times...we're just taking some extra time to make sure that everything looks as good as it can before propogating those animation times to the Shield versions.

I'm glad I wasn't the only one staring at the 'Shadow Punch sucks!' post and thinking how wrong it was.

As others have said, best DPA thanks to the activation time of 0.57seconds. Great, great attack. The addition of IOs and procs just made it even better. In some ways, I can see why they're changing all the powersets to be more balanced from activation-times, though they're going to lose some of the flavor of some sets. Broad Sword was always meant to be slower activating (and recharging) with higher damage numbers. If everything just gets normalised on the first two powers.... augh. Hack won't be anywhere near as good anymore, either! Or Smite!

As I recall, in the days of Permahasten, people didn't use it because other, bigger attacks were always recharged, and bigger numbers were more attractive.

That said, I used it all the time anyhow, REFUSED to take Perma-Hasten on my guy 'cause it totally ruined his look (and yet Cloak of Shadows didn't what), and really liked it because of the feel of the animation. Then again, my chain was something like Shadow Punch, Boxing, Shadow Punch, Smite, Shadow Punch, Midnight Grasp, with Shadow Maul only thrown in when I'd hit multiples in the cone.

    But I've always been weird.

Lets look at this with numbers:

    Air Superiority
    Recharge: 4
    Animation: 1.5
    Damage (50 Scrapper): 62.6
    DPA: 41.73
    DPS: 11.38
    DPE: 9.63

    Shadow Punch
    Recharge: 3
    Animation (old): .57
    Damage (50 Scrapper): 52.6
    DPA: 92.28
    DPS: 14.73
    DPE: 12.03

Other than the knockdown there is no way I'd ever choose Air Sup. over Shadow Punch. Shadow Punch is actually the best attack in the set, or maybe I should say was, as Smite manages to pull ahead of it now.

Paragon Wiki has some very good information on it. I also suggest you go download and update Mids' Hero Designer. Using both should really get you on the up and up in a day or so.

Ok, I just bought this game (if anyone is interested and has a Big Lots around them, they are selling the COH/COV combos and the collector sets for $10) and wow... I spent a whole bunch of time over the weekend playing it. I have an account for myself and one for my ex, and we do the tank/ranged combo that we do in every game. We're not power gamers, so we just pretty much pick powers for the fun of it. We have a couple of villains and I wish I wasn't at work so I could put up a couple of screens.

Now, a couple of quick questions. Does it matter that we'll probably be a two person squad for the entire game? Is there a certain level at which playing with two people will be out of the question? Is there any way to change an aura color while hover is on (it's white and red would be better)? And if we started off with different contacts, is there any way to change it so we can run identical missions?

I can't wait to get home to play this tonight.

They play differently. Peacebringers are much more self-sufficient, though they do not have the peak of power Warshades do. Though Warshades are quite conditional, as several of their attacks rely on enemies being present (Sunless Mire, Dwarf Mire, Eclipse, the Black Dwarf drain attack) or corpses present (Stygian Circle, Unchain Essence, and Dark Extraction). Warshades also have a bit more mezzing ability.

A two person team should do fine. You can essentially play through the game with any number of people.

On the different contacts... you can try running radio missions in King's Row after talking to the detective there (assuming you're in the correct level range for King's) and after you do a Safeguard mission you should be able to select a new contact. If you do each of your safeguard missions you should be able to grab the same contact then, if I'm not mistaken.

Congratulations on your 50! As for Peacebringers and Warshades, they're very different in play. PBs can function better than WSs in human form, mostly due to their very powerful melee attacks, but have less control options. PBs can tank better in their Dwarf form than WSs, but can blast less effectively in their Nova form due to the lack of Mires. Also, they have different free travel and utility powers as well.

This game can be soloed to 50, on both sides. Now admittedly, certain ATs and powersets combinations will have more or less trouble doing so. Therefore, a duo should be fine for most of the content. Depending on your difficulty settings, ATs and powersets chemistry, certain Elite Bosses, Arch-Villains and Heroes will be out of the question. Giant Monsters most definitely will be out of the question, seeing as only a handful are soloable, and would require very specific builds, inspirations and temporary powers.

Oh, and certain Task Forces or Strike Forces can only be started with a set number of players. Some of them, even if you did start with the minimum and then pruned down to only your duo, would be literally impossible to finish; such as Statesman's TF and Lord Recluse's SF.

You won't encounter them for a while though, and like most of the game's tougher challenges, are entirely optional.

    $10 per character.

You could hit lvl 10 in no time, though. Especially now that you know what you are doing. oooh are their any powers she or you wish you hadn't taken? That would be a good excuse to use to get her to re-roll on Virtue.
At the same time, though, you don't want to do anything to jeopardize her enjoyment so you might want to wait to get her on Virtue once you guys decide to make alts, depending on how she reacts to the idea of switching servers.

Make sure you go to the Virtue character screen first and do a Name Check. If Kitty Flame is taken and you transfer the character over you'll have to rename the character, at no extra cost, to one that isn't taken on that server.

And don't worry, none of us really care if you suck as long as you don't actively try and get the team killed (unless you have Vengeance!). Make sure to join the Penny Arcade global chat channel, we can help you with any questions you might have. The channel works across all servers too, in case you don't end up transferring over. It's pretty easy to make a gimmick/joke/parody/etc character, but they almost always get old after the first 15-20 levels and are then abandoned.

Caltrops is great for bunching mobs up for AoEs. Unfortunately, one of your AoEs is M30 grenade if you're an Assault Rifle guy... that often bounces them right out of the caltrops. We used to handle this by just throwing down rows and rows of caltrops when another AR/Dev guy and I would team up. We'd bounce them from one bunch of caltrops to another over and over again. It really messes with the zombies in the 5-20 range, since they're all too stupid to know how to get out of the caltrops. It also worked against the mafia goobers and the 5th column werewolves later on when you got Flamethrower and Full Auto. Caltrops + Ignite would really ruin people's day before they nerfed everything.

Basically, if you had time to plan things out and you had a group that wasn't twitchy (this was hard), you could use caltrops (and trip mines) to out-control a controller. Web-grenading people on top of caltrops was fun too. And on top of ignite. I'd lay down caltrops, snipe someone, wait for his buddies to come in, web grenade one of them, ignite him, and then gun it out with the remaining guy. Sometimes the remaining guy would be beating on me when I did this, so it's not a foolproof plan, but there's something about tying a guy down and setting him on fire that makes it worth the risk.

I miss Bushmaster, my old AR/Dev. I shouldn't have deleted him. I wish there was a way to get back a deleted character at the level at which you deleted them (42).

Transfer is 10 bucks/character, but if you're under level 10 just remake them. It takes about an hour to get to level 8 if you know what you're doing.

As to the kheld questions, Peacebringers are a lot more of a blaster/scrapper hybrid, and warshades are a lot more of a tanker/controller hybrid. so pick the one that more closely fits your playstyle.

I concur on the whole remaking thing. Sure, 10 bucks might be small beans, but it's still not worth the what? Couple of hours it'll take you guys to remake them.

As for PBs being Blappers and WSs being Tankrollers, they're not. Despite their powersets being a potpourri of ordinary ATs' powersets, they're NOT similar. Also, if anything, PBs would be more Tankerish due to their Dwarf being superior in the tanking role, and WSs would be more Blasterish due to their Nova getting capped damage via the Mires.

Even if you want to only compare the human forms, they both have a LOT of utility powers that don't fit the molds.
