Cracked PSP Screen - please help

I ordered my PSP from Amazon on April 3rd. Sometime during the last 24 hours my screen got damaged, and I'm wondering if there's any way to fix it. I never carried it around with me until I got a case for it, and since then it's been residing in my backpack during transit.

Today I put a hardcover book in my bag, and I think that is what caused the damage. Can the screens be repaired, or do I have to buy a whole new system? I'm not keen on dropping another $170 if it can't be fixed.

I would imagine that can be repaired. There are probably replacement screens and cases on ebay at last resort.

Can anyone recommend a good, durable case for the PSP Slim? I've read some reviews on Amazon but I'm hoping for personal experience here. I have a hard plastic shell but the screen protector folds up, and it looks like it got pushed in on one side, causing the damage.

I take my backpack everywhere I go, and frequently have a heavy load in there. It's going to cost me around $100 to replace the screen, so I'd really like to prevent this from happening again.

Ouch, a hundred dollars? You almost might be better off buying a new PSP then. Are you sure the credit card you purchased it with doesn't have some sort of insurance policy for this type of thing? I believe that with some cards, they can get you a replacement in case of accidental damage.

Do you have a slim PSP? I looked at that case but I wasn't sure if it's too big for the slim.

You can buy a new screen and replace it, but psp-2000 parts are still kind of expensive. For example on richspsxparts.com its $70 for the slim screen and $45 for the phat.

If you don't feel like fixing it yourself you can try some online places like fixmyplaystation.com but after parts labor and shipping you might be better off buying a new one and selling the cracked one for parts. Or perhaps leave it hooked up to a TV via component.

Let me tell you about Demon's Souls....
I’ll tell you what happens in Demon’s Souls when you die. You come back as a ghost with your health capped at half. And when you keep on dying, the alignment of the world turns black and the enemies get harder. That’s right, when you fail in this game, it gets harder. Why? Because fuck you is why.

I'm pretty sure it's the same exact screen and connector and that that site is a rip-off even if they are different. You shouldn't pay any more than 50 for a screen + backlight and even that is reaching.

No I'm pretty sure they are different, the insides of the slim and phat are pretty different. My start button stopped working after I dropped my psp in water. The circuit ribbon for the button bar on the bottom is different. (connector goes to different spot..) I'm sure the screen is the same way. Also I think the reason why the screens are expensive is because they are in short supply. (I called a couple of repair places before ordering my part)

Is it the screen itself or the plastic covering?

I'm not really sure. I don't know a lot about LCD screens. It looks like a shattered windshield sort of, and only the top half of the screen displays properly. Maybe I can get a picture.

You can only tell the screen is damaged when the system is powered on. I don't know if that helps explain the problem.

Well if the display is broken then it's the screen. The reason I mentioned it was because if it was just the plastic covering in front of the screen then that's a far, far cheaper repair, but it doesn't sound like that's the case.
