Hey guys, I got an idea. Let's put this lipstick lesbian into our comics (mainly to further titillate teen-age boys) and let's have one of our main guys try to woo her! Hijinks will ensue!
What the hell is wrong with Nightwing? Can't he act like a professional? "Whoa, hot red-headed chick dressed like a Bat-character! Must stare at boobs."
As if the character isn't being fucked up enough over in his own book, they've got to reduce him to a lecherous creep in 52.
DC is really being stupid with Kathy Kane. They can't even get a decent storyline going between her and Renee that isn't just re-hashed, cliche broken hearts bullshit.
What's more, Nightwing pops up out of nowhere for a fight, sees this Bat-lady, and just starts working with her? "Oh, she has a bat on those huge boobs, so she must be okay." Not even a quick call to Oracle to ask, "Hey, Babs, there's some lady here with a bat-suit and red hair. I know she isn't you. Got any info?"
On the other hand, I'm interested in this Bruce Wayne Cracked storyline. Too bad we already know how it ends up.
The funny thing about the "52" on the chest of BlueBeetle thing is that yesterday I went to see Apocalypto and one of the natives had THE SAME 52 ON HIS CHEST!!!
52 is everywhere!!fiftytwo

If you've never noticed, Nightwing pretty much flirts with every single girl he sees.
Every damn one.
And even if he knows it's Kate Kane, he might not know she's a lesbian (Bruce might not even know, since Alfred suggests her as a date in Grant Morrison's storyline)

Oh, I figure he has no idea that she's a lesbian. I didn't realize being such a creepy guy was in-character for Dick Grayson.
Of course, the pseudo-comedy of him hitting on a lesbian (as poorly written as it was) pales in comparison to his reaction to this strange woman in a bat-costume. I just can't get past the fact that he just trusted her implicitly. Some detective.
I don't want a pillow. Overall, 52 has been a good book with more interesting storylines than bad or uninteresting ones. But, damn, when it gets bad, it gets downright bad.

Maybe it's just me, but when I'm given a choice of a hot girl and a bunch of ugly monster things, I'm going to probably go with the hot girl.

But shouldn't he have at least considered the possibility of a set-up? Shouldn't he have been a little more suspicious of Batwoman? Couldn't we at least have had a thought bubble from him suggesting that in addition to covering his part of town that he would check up on her not just to get a glimpse of her chest? To be fair, Batwoman might have been a little more suspicious of him, too.
Maybe he is suspicious of her, and he figures that acting like he trusts her is the best way to get close and figure out what's really going on.
Maybe. But it's still poor writing to not clue the readers into his thoughts. Leaving his motives a mystery just creates this space where we speculate, but our speculation shouldn't be telling the story for the writers. They don't have to throw out a thought bubble. It doesn't have to spoon-fed to us, but there could have at least been something; a hint that he was calling Babs to check up on this Batwoman character, or heading to the Cave to do some quick research, or sticking a little tracer onto her cape (okay, that last one is just about the hokiest thing ever, but it's better than nothing).

Sorry guy, but it just seems like you're a.) looking too much into a small (1 page?) encounter, or b.) you're just looking for something to nitpick on.
You don't need to look into Dick's thoughts to see whats going on. You have Nightwing, your average (straight) hero who seems to have a knack for stirring up tail. He then see's an attractive female hero (red head, mind you) in a tight outfit with a bat motif beating up some Intergang fuglies.
First instinct? Go help the harlot.
Maybe we should have Frank Miller do some DKR style thoughts?
To be fair, Dick was engaged to Babs no more than a few months ago, so to see him hitting on Kate is a little odd. But that 5.2 feature over at Newsarama seemed to hint that it might be Jason, and not Dick, since the editor dude would only refer to him as Nightwing.
An interview with 52's editor Steve Wacker confirms that Supernova's costume insignia is the same as that of Metropolis's fictional TV station Galaxy Broadcasting System.
In June 1973, Lombard saves a falling baby, in the process re-activating a chronic knee injury and blacking out. Passer-by Frederick Fowe, a self-described "scientific miracle-worker," treats him with a "violet healing ray that derives its power from the sun." Unbeknownst to both doctor and patient, however, Fowe's ray has the added effect of animating an energy being, resembling the quarterback but with "a form consisting of indescribable, unearthly matter from the sun..."
Oh, and who ran GBS? Why, a Darkseid lackey. Hmmm. And with ties to the Newsboy Legion. Hmmmmmmmmmmmm.

I am being nit-picky, and it is just a comic. But I think that a carefully written Batman would have taken a much more cautious approach to this newcomer (although maybe he would realize who it was right away), and I would expect that Nightwing, being Batman's first and foremost prodigy, would be similarly cautious.
Maybe Nightwing has been going in a different direction over the last couple years, but for some time, he was a diligent detective. It just rang hollow to me. I know they've got limited space, but I can't help thinking that the writing was haphazard for just the few quick pages.
It's also not consistent with the quality of writing for the rest of series. For the most part, the writers have done a commendable job of telling little bits of their story without cutting corners with the characters.
I guess I see it as a bigger deal than you do that this (admittedly small) part of the book jumps out to me as particularly not up to snuff with the rest of the book.
For fun, here's what happened supposedlly in this week's 52, copied straight from the DC-boards. Remember that this isn't 100% confirmed legit(nor 100% completely readable due to a missing letter here and word there).

Ralph: It was me, at the end of the Crisis in the Ambassador Hotel. Be careful, Yao Fei. Be careful what you wish for.
And Ralph and the Helmet leave Nada Parbat.[/spoiler:e698930f02]
I wonder if they're even going to go into that in 52, or if that was just meant to be an acknowlegement of the continued existence of the CSA's Earth.
It'd be fun to see the CSA fight someone other than their noble equivalents for a change.
As for why he's there, there isn't much else he can do to get back home if he's on the wrong Earth. Titans are the only active super-group at the time, or at least the only one with open auditions. That and he probably feels better being around people who resemble his version of the Titans than anyone else.
The Lost in Space buddies will save the day without Earth ever really finding out, since there's no mention of this evil GL-eating chick post-OYL.
Similarly, Luthor's everyman project will crumble and everyone with powers will lose them, leaving things just like they were before.
The talking crocodile is a fun character, so he's going to get raped. By Dr Rape... I mean, Dr Light.
Batwoman will probably get raped too, probably by Toddwing.
The Question is going to somehow survive cancer because dude, it's the DCU, people come back from worse than cancer every damn week. It's probably all some trick to fuck with Renee anyway.
