Volunteer work in Myanmar is totally doable, guys. The thing is, it's easier in some ways to get in as a "tourist" than an aid-worker. This is strongly discouraged by most aid organizations because it's kinda stupid and dangerous.
The hardest part is logistics- figuring out what's needed where and how best to get it there. That is pretty much undoable without some sort of experienced staff. The idea is to go there with healthy people and cash, use the healthy people for labor, the cash for supplies needed to perform the labor. If some of these people have experience in disaster relief, construction, medicine, or another applicable field, all's the better. I know this has been done successfully with US disasters. The biggest barrier in this case would be the government, but it sounds like they're relaxing a bit as of yesterday. Once we're in we should be able to work.
You would need a visa. If you've ever in any way been associated with any form of press, they'll deny it. Other than that, Information varies. It'll likely take two weeks or more, we'll need an itenerary (we may just need to give cities and flight numbers, we may need to give hotels and daily visits, the former is much more likely for a standard tourist visa), a work history (to prove you're not a reporter or government agent or something), a passport valid up through six months from the date you plan to depart, some photos, and a handful of other forms.
If we convert currency on the open market and avoid official government tourist hotels and restaurants, you can visit on twenty dollars a day, easily. Travel would be about eighty dollars each way from Bangkok, plus whatever it'll cost you to get to Bangkok. I'm flying out of the Midwest and expecting between fifteen hundred and two thousand round trip, depending on departure dates and airport choice. West-Coasters will have it a little cheaper, Asians even cheaper than that. I don't know about the Brits. I don't plan on paying for it myself. I've done fundraisers for similar sorts of things before. Everyone I know is either poor or really tight-assed, so you guys should be able to raise enough easy.
The dates and length of stay depends on how long the visas take and who all's going. Twenty-eight days is the absolute max the visa will allow.
Are you coming with me, or are you a pussy?

Be more suicidal, guys.
Who doesn't?
no man see they thrive on child prostitution in burma
it's the entire basis of their economy
it is why their money is referred to as "nyon hao chu" which means "child rape dollars"
this is myanmar
If you can get it in the country, go right ahead.
They may consider you a foreign spy and have you tried on charges of espionage, though.
The prisons there are unpleasant.
that is wack
been a long time gone burma
And I'm like, what 8-year-old says "chafe"?

kusu you are being pretty dumb here
sorry i'll stop
fuck it i have the top of the page
this is horrifyingly erotic
That's why it's easier to get in as a tourist.
Aid groups are evil representatives of foreign governments trying to incite the people to rebel. Tourists are stupid rich people who'll give the government lots of American dollars because they don't realize that the market rate two hundred to two hundred fifty times higher than the one they give you at the official government-run banks and exchange kiosks.
China (and most of asia in general) is probably the last place I'd ever want to take a vacation to, let alone go work in
centipede we have had this discussion before
ready to highlight my terrible memory
I will hold each and every one of you personally responsible.
it took me forever to find it
i knew it had the word "cure" in it
but it didn't give me that post when i searched for "cure"
maybe then we can get some child prostitution threads going, JEEZ
man, I have to go to work that day
not really
a lot of bumese people prefer burma, since it's the junta that changed the name
there's a political connotation
if kusu is posting
is it about the cure
no-> not serious
yes -> is it about how great they are
yes -> SERIOUS
no-> JOKING
i've highlighted the part that concerns you
this is even dumber now than when you first posted it
