Hello I am new to this convention. Is there a date set for when the event schedule will be posted? It's difficult for me to justify attending a convention that doesn't have their events listed...
When it gets closer to the convention, they'll have the whole schedule up. But there's gonna be a bunch of cool shit. Concerts, tournements, panels, everything.
If you need a schedule of events to decide if you're going to come or not, then it's probably not the convention for you. Needless to say, this convention will be full of win and awesome even if they had no events because of the people who attend and what generally happens when you get 30,000 gamers in the one place at the same time.
In the past the schedule goes up around mid July-ish
It's almost here !

Does anybody have the schedule from previous years handy? Things change from year-to-year, but seeing how things went in the past might give this guy an idea of how things go down at PAX.
Also, yeah, just youtube search PAX07 for some footage of different aspects of last year.
I kind of get the feeling that at least half of the awesome stuff will be unscheduled random crap you end up doing, either unscheduled stuff, or stuff you didn't make a specific plan to see, but ended up at.
Have you ever seen news from pax? I mean, just search for it in youtube or google image search. It's THE expo to go to if you love the gamer culture.
Actually, wouldn't that be called "Gen Con Indy?" :P
The company that puts on the Gen Cons went bankrupt. Aside from that, I've heard it's more about celebrating games, and not gamers, and *checks the website* they have a smaller attendance rate. I'm not sure I'd want to go to that one, anyway. None of their events are listed on the site. :P

Zing!
But yeah, I don't think I'm going to live to see a higher epitome of gamer culture than two people finishing a three day elimination tournament by playing Combat on an Atari 2600 for a prize that includes every NES game ever made.

Especially that comeback in round 4. Holy hell that was tense.

Well they filed Chapter 11, that's not exactly the same thing as going bankrupt. It's more of a U.S. corporate protection statute under the bankruptcy laws.
Bankruptcy in corporate America doesn't mean "I got no money" the way it might if you or me or the guy down the street filed bankruptcy.
I just can't see how a show like this can draw a substantial crowd, being held on the ass-end of the country, two weeks after GenCon Indy, and especially without an event schedule far enough in advance that people can decide whether they'd come here or go to GenCon. Few people can afford to do both unless they just happen to live within driving distance of this.
Even Dragon Con in Atlanta has more info about their plans than this does.

Well I guess it's a good thing we don't need you to see how it works... it works without your approval.
Forgive me for being a bit snide but your attitude needs a bit of adjusting... I for one love when people call my home the "ass-end of the country". PAX works just fine the way it works now... it's not all about the schedule.
But the schedule generally consists of insider panels, demonstations, Q&A sessions (both PA & industry), trivia contests and a whole lot more. Then you have scheduled tournaments (video & table top gaming)... you have console freeplay areas that are open most the day where you can go play pretty much any console... there's the PC area where you can setup your own computer (if you register for it) and play there during breaks... there's the expo hall which has previews, demos, contests, merchandise and a whole lot more.
But like I said... it's not all about the schedule. I usually hit up the PA panels, and maybe 2 or 3 other panels only. The rest is gaming, in tournaments, freeplay, on a tabletop with my friends or just wandering around meeting people and playing with them. It rocks.

So you say this eventhough gencon doesnt have a schedule and is closer than pax?
I take it you go to gencon from your attitude?

Also, I would call Indiana more of an ass part of the country than Seattle. Seattle is nice, clean and awesome, Indiana is almost as dirty as Ohio, and in some places dirtier.

I am inclined to agree. More extreme weather, the cities are pretty dirty, and I can think of a TON more cities I would like to visit rather than Indiana :P
Yeah, you're coming off a little like a Gencon troll. If you're really interested why not ask about what previous events were like? We've all got stories. Most of which go something like "I did X really cool thing with X people I never met before, but now we're great friends and I had a blast" or "this one year I did X with some people and now it's a tradition to do it every year, I can't wait to do it again."
Gen Con has a schedule of events. People can register for stuff. And it's only two weeks prior to this convention. but it sounds like it will be another month and a half before they unveil what will be going on here.
Sorry for sounding like a troll, Indy is pretty far from me, too. But at least airplane isn't the only way for the majority population to reach it.
It just strikes me odd that a show like this that's in a relatively remote part of the country so far away from everything else that you have to fly to get there would want to do more to encourage people to sign up earlier.
Some of my very obvious frustration is that I recently stumbled onto something about this convention that makes me very, very angry, and the lack of a event schedule release only serves to exacerbate that rage.
I think when the schedule is released there are going to be a lot of pissed off people from my neck of the gaming woods.

Who flies to get there? I don't fly? Shit there's about 15 cars worth of people who are not only not flying, but all driving together to get to PAX. People don't do that to get to Gen Con, I know that for sure. Rage? Pissed off people? I fail to understand why there will be so many angry, pissed off gamers when the PAX schedule of events is released.

Well I guess if you live in the far northwest driving is an option, but when it's a 36-hour drive one way straight through that's out of the question.
You fail to understand why because I didn't say why and it's not really my place to say so either. I'm not even sure if it's true yet. When the schedule is released, then I will know for sure.

Um, dude, maybe you should poke on over to the CCST thread. We're driving two days in each direction. Personally, I live in Ohio and we have people coming from as far away as New Jersey, Texas and South Dakota. Take a look at the thread, and you'll see that we don't let distance get in between us and PAX.

Wow... such negativity Sir.... and over rumors you won't even name? Personally to me it sounds as if you have both anger management and gossiping problems. But such things should never keep you from the awesome glory that is PAX!
Remote? Hardly, the PA guys are stationed here in the Seattle area, why would they host it anywhere else? Particularly since there are all sorts of things like game companies and the such here already. All in all Seattle has, is, and will continue to be a great place to host PAX.
PAX is really what you make of it, and besides, I'm sure they are still scrambling to get the schedule down. PAX is still a few months out, there are probably all sorts of revisions being made to the schedule prior to them posting it. PAX has been a complete success since it started, and each year it gets bigger and better.
It is worth it in every way to come, and as Moe as said there are plenty of people coming from all over the country who aren't flying in. But to base a decision that it sucks off of something you don't even know? Yeah...the only way you're gonna figure it out is if you show up.
Do you want to know about the schedule of PAX? Well I so happen to have a pdf copy of LAST YEARS PAX (caps are just making sure other people know it's LAST YEAR'S schedule and don't go "OMG! PAX 08 INFO") Feel free to take a gander at it and if you have any questions about what the titles actually mean, then throw the question up on this thread (or PM me) and I can easily answer your question.

Remote part of the country, I can TOTALLY agree. Seattle is so remote, and it isn't sitting on an interstate highway that stretches the entire west coast. It isn't home to Microsoft. It doesn't have campuses for Google, PayPal, Nintendo, DigiPen, and various indie game developers. No one here knows about popular music, it's not like Seattle has ever produced any decent bands. I doubt this city would ever be considered for a World's Fair. It's not even home to Penny Arcade. You know how hard it is to get decent internet out here? We're so far out in the boonies we shoot all our own food and trade beads with the natives. My horse broke his leg the other day so I had to put him down and walk to work.
Some of my very obvious frustration is that I recently stumbled onto something about this convention that makes me very, very angry, and the lack of a event schedule release only serves to exacerbate that rage.
You're obviously frustrated about something that might not even be true. Perhaps you can tell us what you heard? Someone here might have an answer so you can sleep at night. What will Penny Arcade do that can potentially piss off so many people?
I think when the schedule is released there are going to be a lot of pissed off people from my neck of the gaming woods.
Where are you, anyway? I'm curious to know why you're so frustrated about flying to the ass end of the country (nothing's out here of interest, so airfare must be cheap) when you don't even have to go through customs.
I find it extremely rude to come into a forum about a specific event in a specific city, insult the city, announce your hypocritical reasons for not wanting to attend the event, and then say you are pissed at the event for something that may or may not be true. Seriously, we are trying to help you out. If you don't want your questions answered, don't mention them in the first place.

*looks back thru the thread* I always considered "filing for bankruptcy" to be the same thing as "going bankrupt," even on a corporate scale.
So what is this "thing" that makes you so very, very angry? You can't leave us hanging!
PAX is located in a very convenient location- there are gobs of game companies in the NW that would not be able to make it to something further away. There has been endless discussion on having PAX elsewhere, and it keeps boiling down to Seattle being the best place to have it.
Yeah, you guys are right. Sorry. I don't have anything against the convention or Seattle, just that it's so damn far away from me, and I booked a trip to GenCon expecting WotC to come to GenCon. My beef is completely with them, and based heavily on this thread, which I stumbled across a couple of weeks ago:
If they are coming here with all of their events, well they should have announced that so that those of us who have to fly to get there could have planned for that BEFORE booking a room in Indy. :x
My intention here originally was just to ask about the schedule of events and when it would be up so I could confirm some of the plans, but wow, mid-July? WTF, I don't know how many people can really just up and reorganize their lives to attend a spur-of-the-moment event like this, particularly those of us who live on the other side of the country and had no advance notice of where we should go to participate in the events we thought would be at GenCon. ("Spur-of-the-moment" from the vantage point of people who were deceived and mislead, not necessarily those who were within a short driving distance from the convention and/or planned to attend anyway.)
Ah, so WotC hath burned thee. Well, PAX likes to stay fluid right up to the last minute, and previous years where the schedule was announced earlier resulted in multiple schedule revisions and people working off of old information and general confusion. Hence the late but mostly final schedule release system. 37000+ people manage to live with it.
But Qs23's archive should at least give you a general idea if not specific to this year. Most of the things carry over directly if not analogously.
First of all, I'm really looking forward to PAX. I'll be busting my PAX Cherry and couldn't be happier. I've done GenCon in the past and really enjoyed it. I'd love to go to another GenCon in the future. However, I don't really see a clear comparison between the two or why I would have to pick sides.

Here's the GenCon event schedule. If you click on GenCon Indy and go to Attendees, then events, it tells you that the most recent events schedule is on the Community site, click there and with a few more clicks you get here.
There's nothing pretty about it, it's just a spreadsheet with ~4900 rows at this point, but with all of the relevant information (one row per "event")...though, some events are held multiple times.
Forget_Byron, wow relax, man. o_O Pax isn't exactly spur of the moment! They've had the date and place set for a long time and have been selling pre-registered tickets for months. I'm a PAX newbie and I didn't need a full schedule to decide whether I'd go. There's tons of info about how awesome previous years have been. That's good enough for me! I can understand your frustration about WotC maybe skipping GenCon. Does anyone know if they are coming this year to PAX. I've seen banners for them on YouTube Pax videos. In any case, I've got 3 guys with me and they are all primarily table-top game guys. I'm sure if you made it to Pax, you'd have no problem finding stuff to keep you entertained and happy. Can't we all just get along?
