The craziness is what makes it so fantastic. I mean that creature in the OP is fucking genius! I love it! And the art actually suits the naive writing style, and for me, makes this the second best comic i've ever seen posted here after Allan's. I'm not even kidding. It's just so awesomely camp and silly!
drawing all this in a different style would have taken years, probably.
I am pretty sure he can draw very well,if he wants to because the composition, as simple as these drawings are, work well and you always know what's going on.

His perspective is so ridiculously off. The huge heads are reminiscent of Beavis & Butthead but the art's much worse than that. I mean, toward the beginning of the series when he shoots that kid, he amateurishly has the butt of the rifle very conspicuously going over his shoulder instead of making any effort to draw it seated against it. That's just one example.
Yes, it's ridiculous looking and wrong. But the way he is telling the story i've got the notion he is not doing it for the first time.
If you tell a kid to draw the same story, drawings might look very similar but the whole layout and arrangement would be very confusing, making it hard to follow the story.
It's hard to explain. Just an impression i got while reading the comic.
Also on one strip he drew George Lucas, Tarantino and Hitchcock. Although the drawing isn't technical good, he captured their facial features very well. Which is difficult for an amateur .
However i might be completely wrong as well. ;-)
