For those that don't know, Everyday Shooter is the game developed almost solely by Jonathon Mak of Queasy Games, the mind responsible for a few other indie games such as Gate 88 and ToJam thing. Everyday shooter has been rocking on the PSN for a while now, and is a twin stick shooter somewhere between Rez and Geometry Wars. And after a long wait, it's finally out on PC
So for those that wanted in on the action you should be pleased to know that the system requirements means you can probably play it on your Asus eee
OS: Windows 2000/XP/Vista
Processor: 1.7 Ghz
Memory: 256 MB
Graphics: OpenGL compatible graphics card.
Hard Drive: 36MB
So, can anyone tell me whether you're only supposed to have 8 directions of aim/movement? Seems really really shitty on a twin stick shooter.
You'll want a gamepad. Definitely.
Well... I'm using a gamepad. That'd be my problem.
Really?
Oh.
Maybe I should actually boot it up instead of talking out of my ass.
Upon further inspection, it seems that, yeah, analog sticks don't function as analog for aiming or movement. And the only way to get past the "thing X unlocked" screen is by using the keyboard.

Perhaps some bitching will get a patch out?
As far as I can tell, the 8 direction thing is on the PS3 version, but I'm having a hard time believing that considering none of the reviews mention it, but it keeps cropping up in comments on them.
Well, that was certainly trippy (got to the level where the tanks start shooting you before losing all my lives). Returns to play more...
EDIT: Wow, this game rocks. After a few more playthroughs I started to figure out how the various levels work and the game just kept getting cooler and cooler. Love the fact that each level has its own set of quirks.

If you read the comments by the developer, he says he actually plays the game using the d-pad and face buttons rather than the sticks. I've tried it and it actually works pretty well that way.
Oh and if you don't have a PS3 you should totally buy this, it's fucking great. And the music is stellar.

Finally got to Level 6 (of 8) and also unlocked the visualizer for defeating 3 planes in level 4. Seriously, this game rocks; I'm surprised there isn't more buzz about it.
This game is incredibly hard, at least with the full keyboard controls. I've played maybe 15 times and have yet to get past 65% level 2. I want to enjoy it but it's incredibly frustrating, I feel like I'm fighting against my keyboard more than all the shit flying around.
I was thinking of picking up a 360 controller with the Windows adapter for this and Audiosurf. Does anyone know if these can be gotten cheaper than $60 or should I just get it fast and easy at Best Buy?
I am unable to get past level 3 in normal play. Anyone has any tips on how to beat that one?
it's hard :P save up, buy all the extra lives. it helps me to hang out on the left side and shoot towards the eye, but make sure to put priority on any of those red tracking blobs as they come towards you. also, when the eye's closed, work hard to get the flashing 'bombs'. they kill off all the other incoming things and in turn stop the eye from growing a heap.
I kinda like the unlock system because eventually you'll get enough points from playing to get enough lives to beat the game. Would be cool if the game graphed your cumulative points versus time and also your max level beaten versus time.
you'll get used to it, don't let that stop you from playing the game, that's for sure.
I'm at those damn computerchip / turrets in level 6 or 7 I think. totally loving it.
and for the eye on level 3, the flashing guys should be priority, keeping the eye small means less of the angry little eyes tracking you down. it's tough that's for sure.
I want this game but the lack of analog shooting worries me.
How hard is it to get used to only being able to shoot in 8 directions?
I never had a problem aiming between the directions; yes, you can only start on the eight cardinals, but if you begin firing then shift to another direction, the bullet stream does not instantly change to the new direction, but changes over the course of the next few bullets. So it's more like 15 directions you can shoot in, though I can see it being a little more difficult to pull off with a gamepad.

This is pretty much why I prefer the keyboard. I find it a lot easier to rock my firing back and fourth (e.g. always hold down A and alternate between W and S) on a lot of the levels, especially the third with all the homing eyes. The other thing to remember is that when you stop firing you're a lot faster.

So bought'd.
My reasons to buy a PS3 list just lost another tick mark. No offense to the PS3.
All right, people. It is not a gerbil. It is not a hamster. It is not a guinea pig. It is a death rabbit. Death. Rabbit. Say it with me, now.

Same here. It sounds sad but Everyday Shooter was my #1 most wanted PS3 exclusive until I just bought the PC version a second ago.

I'm happy to see this hit the PC, it's a phenomenal game.

Stop it
I can run Half Life 2 and Audiosurf and stuff.

I would say though, that the keyboard is much better for Everyday Shooter, although 360 pad is essential for Audiosurf
Yes.*
*no guarantee.
However, when I first saw this thread title, I totally read it as "Everyday school shooter for kids".

Also, goddamn that little biplane on level 4.
