Quality modern Adventure games

So i'm looking to get back into Adventure games, but I don't like bad graphics so i'm looking for something post 2001 or 2002. Something as good as the Blade Runner game way back when... had some GREAT memories with that game.

Anyway, if you guys know of anything similar to Blade Runner or just as good as it, let me know. I haven't been following adventure games for at least 10 years so everything is new to me right now.

    Good graphics?
    Hmmm.
    Pity.
All the best adventure games of the last few years were on the DS.

Can possibly recommend you Dreamfall, though.

I've heard good things about the Penumbra series.

In any case, you'd be well advised to look this thread and search for the first occurrence of the word "adventure". There's a tonne of good looking stuff.

Just recently tried the demo for "Overclocked" and it seems like it might be a decent game too.

Dreamfall is pretty good if you don't mind conversations that last for 10 minutes that boil down to "hi, I don't know anything right now".

Bad Mojo, if you never picked it up. One of my all-time favorites. Bad Mojo Redux is retooled to run on windows XP, so compatibility shouldn't be an issue.

I loved the Blade Runner game as well, but I've never seen another adventure game come close to the level of interactivity that one did. You might try The Experiment, though, as the premise sounds like it would be interesting enough, and would allow for some cool interaction with the NPC.

In that same vein, you might try In Memoriam, which is an investigation simulator, for the lack of a better phrase. The whole goal there is immersion, so you'll get helpful emails along the way as you begin uncovering evidence to track down a serial killer. Obviously it's web-based, though, so I don't know if all the domains and related stuff are still in service so you can play it properly. I heard good things, though, and I wanted to try it myself, but never had the cash.

I played the Cthulhu Sherlock Holmes (The Awakened), and I really hated it. The world is just so rudimentary and obtuse; in any given area you can only interact with two or three things at a time (made worse by the fact that the areas are pretty large). There is very little dialogue, and it's not great either. The game also rarely says what you're actually supposed to be doing, and the puzzles are boring as hell and often don't make any sense.

I never played the other one(s), but if they're anything like The Awakened, I cannot fathom how they ever got good reviews. Man, I'm a huge Cthulhu nut and I dig Sherlock Holmes, and I couldn't stand that game.

Honestly, to the OP, play the new Sam & Max episodes. They're the best the genre has to offer these days. Everyone hates Dreamfall, but it has a great story (shut up about the ending) and is rather beautiful. Still Life and Syberia are probably the best "serious" modern adventure games, but they are also pretty rudimentary, i.e., there isn't a whole lot of dialogue, and most of the interaction is based around the puzzles instead of the environment/world.

    Funny, though.

Yeah, it is. But it's not much of an adventure game, considering how much combat the game has (though most of the time you're running away from it), and it also has a bunch of twitch puzzles.

It's flawed, but it probably still is the best Lovecraft game.

Damn, Syberia looks incredible. Moment of Silence looks interesting.

I'm looking at some reviews for Blade Runner at gamespot... they gave it a 6.0 there. Was it a bad game? I remember absolutely loving it but it has been a long time.

I remember it being very, very short (like 4-5 hours long) and very easy.

Zork grand inquisitor. I can't tell you how fond I am of that adventure. Great lines and some hilarious stuff happens along the way. Putting cola on the pop(zork) rocks to blow open a locker? Priceless.

Hey, it's enough of an adventure game that I'd recommend it. Doesn't hurt to check it out. :)

Sam & Max, Season 2 is especially good and just wrapped up. You can get the whole season for about $30 from Telltale's website.

Or through GameTap, at least in US/Canada. If you just want to play through all of them once the first month is like $1 I think. A lot of the other games in this list are on there too, Zork Grand Inquisitor, Return to Mysterious Island, some other modern and classic adventure games.
