A friend just got a Zune, wanted to put all his CDs on it. He took out this Caselogic CD case that had been sitting for awhile next to his computer, and it appeared that several of his CDs had been oddly damaged. The silver material on the discs is gone in various places in a kind of 'wormhole' pattern. If you hold a damaged CD up to a light source you can see right through the CD in places. These CDs have been sitting untouched in this case for some time, something like 1-4 years, and as far as he knows nothing has been spilled on them. The case was propped up next to his computer case.
Any ideas on what might have happened?

No idea, but this happened to some of my CDs too. They were original purchased CDs. I had kept them in a Case Logic wallet as well, although they were not left untouched. The total amount of damaged CDs in my collection is probably only around 9 or 10, but it still sucks.
These were commerical CDs, not CD-Rs, various labels.
