So I have the opportunity at my university next year to get a specialty radio show (I'm training to be a DJ) and I really want to have a nerdcore/general geek themed show including video game covers, internet memes, etc. However, I need some more recommendations besides MC Frontalot, Jonathan Coulton, Pure Pwnage, O-Zone (you get the idea).
The problem is that I'm very limited because there are certain words I can't play on air (most cursing), including synonyms for penis. However, I can play bitch, damn, and ass (this also applies to songs in other languages). The FCC is really weird about that. So anyway, if you guys could give me some recommendations for generally clean artists, I'd really appreciate it! I just discovered Lemon Demon the other day and he's great. Instrumental stuff like NESkimos and the Minibosses is also most welcome.
Well, you could certainly check game soundtracks. Katamari Damacy has some pretty kickass songs.
Edit: Oh, I've got one song by a band called The 32-Bit Handhelds. That probably qualifies.
Edit 2: A Pandora station with just The Minibosses just turned up a band called The Advantage, playing a song called Castlevania II: Bubbleman. Looks promising.
Edit 3: Man, this was a good idea, I'm really enjoying listening to what pandora is coming up with.
Any actual game music would be good (Mario theme music, etc) which you could get off of Galbadia Hotel. Also look up the NESkimos. They sort of do covers of game themes.
Check out beefy (www.beefyness.com). Cool guy, good music, and he makes an active attempt to keep his songs clean, for personal reasons.
Check out Zealous1, and also the Calvin and Hobbes EP by T.Y.T and DJ Snyder. I'm not sure what they have that's radio friendly, it would be on a case by case basis.
Ohh, and of course you should put my music on, I'll even make some radio edits

Awesome! Thanks so much!
And thanks everyone for the great suggestions; Basshunter is definitely a must-play and I'll see if I can dig up my TMBG.

Heh, no problem. Seriously, I can forward you to a lot, and I mean a lot, of nerdcore and nerdy music. Most of it free, and if it isn't, the artists would probably be more than happy to let you play it for the publicity. Send me a PM if you are looking for something specific, or just a huge dump of good artists.
Chiptunes definitely aren't nerdcore or anything, but you mentioned videogame themed music also. There are a lot of cool chiptune musicians listed here. Just keep following the "Similar Artists" list from one to the next.

Outside of the obvious (Coulton, Frontalot, Astley, Chocolate Rain guy), I'd say old Weezer would be a good fit. In particular,
In The Garage ("I've got a dungeon master's guide, I've got 12-sided die")
El Scorcho (The first verse is an Evangelion reference)
Only in Dreams (I don't know, it's just geeky. And also good)
If you want to stretch a bit, Coheed and Cambria could be interesting, being that their music is all based on the comic series the singer writes.
Stopping by www.ocremix.com or www.vgmix.com would probably be a good idea, too. All the ocremix album projects are great, especially Kong in Concert and whatever the Doom one was called.
Edit:
Forgot to mention that you'll want to find a radio edit of El Scorcho.
Powerglove does metal covers of assorted videogame tunes (from Mega Man to Final Fantasy, and even the Power Rangers theme) so you might want to check them out. Also, the Black Mages do official metal versions of Final Fantasy songs (I say official since Nobuo Uematsu is in the band)
Here is the Powerglove version of Tetris that someone put in Audiosurf:

Samus by Irepress is good.

That might be a bit obscure, but dammit if Hold Your Colour isn't one of the best albums out there in it's genre.
Daft Punk (music video might be pseudo NSFW)...surprised no one has said that.
Benny Benassi? (again, video = pseduo NSFW)
Also Lemon Demon (of 'Ultimate Battle of Ultimate Destiny' fame) and Presidents of the United States and They Might Be Giants...all good bands for what you're describing.
And I'm definitely seconding Basshunter. Great stuff.

All right, people. It is not a gerbil. It is not a hamster. It is not a guinea pig. It is a death rabbit. Death. Rabbit. Say it with me, now.

Also Pendulum is amazing. I saw them live last month and it was the best time i've ever had at a concert.
