There are a billion different predesigned dungeon segments. Not having run into one is not at all evidence that it doesn't exist.
But not having run into it ever is a pretty clear indication that it doesn't always occur as a pre-scripted event on the first dozen levels or so.
I didn't mean always-generated, just a generated event. Like the little sand castles and sewers you can invade.
Every once in a while I'll read a scroll of magic mapping and see an isolated square room off by it's lonesome that I can't get into through any staircases or trap doors (not those water rooms, these ones have floors and pillars). Always makes me wonder how many of those I've passed by even in games I could have gotten into them, by virtue of not having some handy divinations.
By golly I am spending much more time on this free game then any commercial releases made this year.
Awesome gameplay is boss although the details are a bit obscure to me...
For instance, I am at a loss of how experience works when your summoned minions kill an enemy.
Do you get the regular amount of XP as if you killed them yourself or only a fraction?
And what is the thing with that aptitude system? Does a lower aptitude value only mean that your XP
will be spent faster on it or do you actually need less XP to level up a low aptitude value skill...
What does Robe of the Archmagi mean when it says "it is meant for those who have little left to learn"? Do you not train spellcasting skills while wearing it?
I'm currently wearing a +2 elven robe of magic resistance and I have a chance to buy a +4 robe of the archmagi, wondering if I should switch. Most of my spellcasting skills are at 9 or 10.

When you wear the Robe of the Archmagi, you more or less don't gain any experience. It's not just spellcasting, i mean ANY experience.
You get 1/2 experience is a friendly creature gets the last hit.
Lower aptitude means that you require less XP to level that skill. For instance, with 91 Spellcasting aptitude you only need 91% of the normal amount to reach level 1 in Spellcasting.
Robe of the Archmagi increases your spell power but you gain less XP from kills, so you will level and learn skills slower.

You only get half the XP if a summon kills for you and the lower the skill aptitude the faster the skill trains.

It lowers the amount of XP you gain by 75% so you don't want to wear it til max level.

Thanks for that guys! Could not find this info in the wiki or the manual. Guess the XP is much better spent on lower aptitute skills then.
Also, fuck 5-headed hydras spawning adjacent to the stairs when you descend. That kills a deep elf conjurer so freaking fast... SO FREAKING UNFAIR
Speaking of bugs, my brother found a pretty weird one.
While playing a new character, he accidentally mashed some buttons and all of a sudden he was playing as a Demigod Transmuter that had definitely died already.
He has no clear idea of which buttons he pressed, but it was his old, dead character, and he was able to play it like nothing had ever happened to it.

Wow, I just found a Robe of the Archmagi +4 and I'm level 4. Bought for 16g or something from a shop... but it mentions "only for those who have little left to learn".
What's the drawback here? Couldn't find anything on the wiki.
So, I'm moonlighting as a melee type. Mace of Draining - to use because it does not cause net XP loss or to not use because it does cause net XP loss.
Thanks in advance
Draining will lower enemy levels/hit dice or whatever, and it will cause some experience loss.
But it effectively deals damage to max HP instead(in addition to?) regular damage, like you do against undead, so it can still be handy for something really tough that you have trouble killing. And it may be worth using early on before you find another good weapon. Though since it's just a mace, it probably won't be long before you find something better.
I actually started going blunt weapons so Hydra aren't such a nightmare without 'Of Flaming'. Is there something else beyond the natural +Acc & Dmg that makes blunt weapons undesirable?
Basically just that it's harder to find the better ones. The best one-handed long blades and axes are really common. The better two-handed polearms and axes are generally a lot more common than the equivalents for the other weapons. The absolute best for all of them are around the same rarity. But I think there was something with maces being the worst. Or polearms maybe. Basically, the only thing maces have over axes is the hydra thing, but that's really not a huge deal because there are a billion ways to kill hydras usually.
I think some classes that would want to use either of them have slightly better axe proficiency, too. Could be wrong on that one, though.
Ogres are great with maces, ok with polearms and terrible with axes.
Speaking of which, it's so hard to keep an ogre alive by about level 15. Not being able to wear most armors, low intelligence, terrible at every school of magic, only good with (arguably) the worst weapons...
I don't see a lot of upsides to Ogres, it almost seems like I'd have to luck out and find some dragon armor lying around early game to stand a chance.

Ogres make decent transmuters since changing form takes advantage of their high natural HP and strength. Even in different forms they're still really frail, though.
Everything else...they're pretty much strictly an option for if you want to play a race that's really terrible.
I'm Mountain Dwarf, but I kept getting shunted away from the middle of the Lair and deeper due to hydras so I figured the 70 vs 65 was probably worth it.
I have some magical skill now and Stoneskin, but fuckall if I can cast it when in armor..... yet :P
e~ wow, Platemail +7..... of Ponderousness (-2 Eva & slows movement) I think I've got to use it though.
I dunno, fading, I probably wouldn't wear anything that slows your movement. It reminds me of a nearly-fatal suit of artifact armor that I found, +10 platemail that prevents teleportation.

Well, I'm wearing it for now. I think it should be fine as long as I don't get sent to the abyss.. hopefully I'll replace it with something nice soon :P Game is being stingy though, I'm still using the starting mace and just cleared the Lair... I think the only reason I've lived so far is a nice 4/3 ring of slaying that's carried me. ID'ing scrolls has Enchanted it with I II III and just now vorpalized, so I'm just going to dump all my scrolls into it >.<

Reading the log, I think the game just gave up trying to create him new items.
Why is he switching between Okky and NX? ... And Kikubaaqudgha? Is he just doing it to get books and whtnot from Ki and then... for gear as Okky?

I decided to check out Pandemonium. Really easy compared to Hell. Then I run into Cerebov, who reams me good. This guy is insane: huge fire AoE that hurts even with 3/3 fire resist, summons fire vortexes, summons a shit ton of demons of all types. He's pretty much untouchable. Even my army of charmed Balrogs had no chance.
Cerebov is pretty much the toughest guy in the game. A big part of that is that he hastes himself, on top of doing all the other crazy stuff and being really strong. He killed me when I was going for fifteen runes once : (
Other than him, the hell bosses are I think generally a bit more menacing than Pandemonium's, and the difficulty of the levels themselves isn't even comparable. Pandemonium is downright relaxing after going through the hells.
