I have been out of the musical loop for a very long time. I've been listening to the same stuff forever, so I was wondering if you guys could reccomend me some new stuff to listen to. These are my favorite bands:

Old Against Me!
Architecture in Helsinki
At The Drive-In
Bigwig
Billy Bragg
The Books
The Broadways
Cap'n Jazz
Defiance, Ohio
Eluvium
Explosions in The Sky
The Falcon
Ghosts & Vodka
Girl Talk
Gorillaz
Iron and Wine
Joan of Arc
Lifter Puller
Mf Doom
The Microphones
Old Modest Mouse
Mogwai
Mountain Goats
Neutral Milk Hotel
Refused
Russian Circles
Sage Francis
A Silver Mt. Zion

Thats a good sampling. Basically, I like punk, indie, hip hop, folk punk, acoustic stuff, jazz, and post-rock. Thanks a lot for any reccomendations.

Also, obviously you don't have to do this, but if you could post a specific album of song I should check out, or even link me to a song or something, that'd be great. A lot of times people will reccomend me a band and I won't know which one of their 13 albums to start with, hah.

Thanks a lot for your time.

Godspeed You! Black Emperor is the best post-rock band I know of.

You might enjoy Pink Floyd - "Wish You Were Here" is my favorite album by them. An easily digestible five tracks strung together as a coherent whole.

Whenever someone asks for punk recommendations, I always feel obliged to point them to the album, "Full Circle," by Pennywise. Easily my favorite album of all time:

If you like folk-punk, check out The Tossers. Mostly Irish folk with a punk flavor:

Well I see Defiance, Ohio, so I'm going to suggest:

    Beat Happening
    Rumbleseat
    Rosa
This Bike is a Pipe Bomb (Front Seat Solidarity is one of the greatest records ever made)
Tom Frampton-This Revolution Will Not be Amplified
Michael Hurley-most of his records are good but especially 'Have Moicy!'
Pretty much any Brian Jonestown Massacre record, but Take it From the Man is my personal favorite.
    Murder City Devils
And I always suggest Lou Reed's 'Blue Mask' because it's amazing.

You sir have interesting and very good taste in music.

Here are a few bands you may not hear about here that might be up your alley.

    Oceansize (Post-rock, post-metal, post-something, mostly instrumental - try Effloresce)
Homesick for Space (Art rock shoegaze something or other - try Unison)
Ef (Damn fine post-rock in the vein of EoTS with more instruments and scarce vocals - try Give Me Beauty...)
Jaga Jazzist (nu-jazz, experimental, electronic - try What We Must)
Red House Painters (indie goodness - try Rollercoaster)
The Dear Hunter (indie/prog, quite good - try Act II: The Meaning...)
The Most Serene Republic (experimental/indie/shoegaze - try Phages)

Okay, that's about all of the more obscure stuff I can think of that's in your palette based on what you already listed. Enjoy!

Sufjan Stevens-Come on Feel the Illinoise is a great album with a number of absolutely fantastic songs

Battles-Mirrored is my favourite album but is a little weird. Everyone should give it a shot though

Pink Floyd-Dark Side of the Moon is pretty much essential to any music collection
