The Orphanage - Spoilers and Ghosts Inside.

I just watched The Orphanage and it was pretty damn good.

End spoilers
At first, when it showed Simon "come back alive", I thought it was completely cheap and it almost ruined the movie for me. Then I realised that Laura was actually also dead.

I was actually surprised at how sad the ending was.

But man, that mask is scary as all hell.

Did you like The Orphanage?

during the first half hour of this film i found myself unsure of how to react when the orphanage was not filled with vapid teenagers rubbing each other with butter then being dismembered by radiation victims from a nearby uranium mine.

regardless it is a fucking amazing suspense genre film and i am all kinds of fucked up in the potato department after this one. potatoes are borderline creepy vegetables to begin with let alone with spanish children using the bags as masks

My favorite part is when the husband gets to first base with the old lady

I'm just kidding, that wasn't my favorite part.

Saw this in the theaters a while ago. Good movie.

When I went to buy the tickets the kid in the box office told me it was in spanish. I knew this and I asked if there were subtitles, he said no. I went in anyways because I know spanish but there were subtitles anyways! Crazy!

I was really bothered by the Ctrl-Alt-Del-style ending.
I think it would have been enough for Laura to be reunited with Simon, and take care of the kids. I didn't need the tombstone scene to confirm that she was dead. It seemed like Guillermo del Toro was trying to keep people from complaining about a "vague ending", like they did with Pan's Labyrinth.

Other than that, I thought the movie was great. It's one of the scariest movies I've ever seen, really.

It was a good movie, but it wasn't that scary.

I know, but he produced it. I guess I sort of got an image of him being all "make the ending real clear. People do not like endings that are left up to interpretation."

the feel of the film is so close to pan's labyrinth in parts it's hard to believe it's a different director, still i agree the ending could have been less obvious.. i mean it's a spanish language film so that basically filters out most of the re-re's that would need a cut and dry closer

    It doesn't filter out Spanish-speaking re-re's.

    well i mean
if your definition of peace and joy is the main character finding out that she could have saved her son's merely by listening to him, discovering his wasted away corpse in her own house then promptly overdosing on prescription meds then.. uhh, well.. shit man

I like the ending because it stops me being so scared.

Because I was so fricking scared during this movie. So I'm a big scaredy-cat. I'm not ashamed to admit it.

The only thing that stopped me freaking out the next day when it was pitch dark and I had to walk down a narrow alley to reach my back door and then fumble for the keys in my bag was to remind myself of the happy ending.

Guillermo Del Toro is having the Tarantino effect.

If Tarantino produces a film, he's said to have made it.

I wish Tarantino would stop enjoying terrible, terrible films. Hostel? Shit. Hero? pretty but bad and pointless.
