May be old news, but I did a search and coudn't find anything. Apologies in advance if I did miss something though as I would have thought somone would have posted this.

BioWare Listens, Mass Effect Will Not Require Constant Validation

...BioWare’s producer Derek French announced that PC editions of Mass Effect and Spore would require online validation every ten days for the games to continue working. After a massive backlash, BioWare has confirmed that that the titles will include a different version of SecuROM technology. The new version will require users to validate their game only one time...

There has been a lot of discussion in the past week on how the security requirements for Mass Effect for PC will work. BioWare, a division of EA, wants to let fans know that Mass Effect will not require 10- day periodic re-authentication.

Seems that if the gaming community makes its voice known then there will be results :)

Will it still have limited installs?

    From the new Bioware FAQ

Q: What happens when I’ve reached the maximum # of computers for my game and I need more, say due to theft of computer, computer crashes, etc?

A: EA customer service is on hand to supply any additional authorizations that are warranted. This will be done on a case-by-case basis by contacting customer support.

AFAIK the number of installs is still 3.

Dammit :( Knew about the 60+ page thread, but seeing as the original outcry got it's own thread I was looking for a stand alone thread.

Cheers Kruck / Gyral for pointing that out, I guess I messed up my search terms. *crawls back to lurker status*

I've been thinking about this one. What's the point with "limited" installs, if they're just going to hand out additional ones? It's not like the pirates (arrr) will care, because getting rid of that "feature" will be the first thing they do.

Starcraft II better not have any of this Starforce crap. Just go with the standard CD-keys blizzard, don't let Activision corrupt your soul.

The difference is the console folks cave in and buy it, the PC people just pirate it, and then try to justify it.

I am totally and completely not interested in spore, hypno-toad has his work cut out for him.

Let me tell you about Demon's Souls....
I’ll tell you what happens in Demon’s Souls when you die. You come back as a ghost with your health capped at half. And when you keep on dying, the alignment of the world turns black and the enemies get harder. That’s right, when you fail in this game, it gets harder. Why? Because fuck you is why.
