There was a pinball collection called "Balls of Steel" released by a division of Apogee; it contained a Duke Nukem table. In Duke 3D, there's a pinball machine in Hollywood Holocaust that is, indeed, the same pinball table featured in Balls of Steel. So when duke approaches the pinball machine in the game, he'll say, "I've got balls of steel." It's kind of like a double reference or something.

I couldn't find a video of it on youtube, but Apogee's site has a screenshot of the Duke Nukem table featured in Balls of Steel:

Duke takes on the alien hordes just one more time, with all his usual restraint. "No alien's gonna take my balls!"

    Table Features

    * convert aliens into piles of unidentifiable giblets
    * keycard activation of table features
    * "suck it down" spinner
    * voice-overs provided by Duke himself
    * holoduke, steroids, nightvision, jetpack and more

I've dumped enough quarters into my school's Lord of the Rings pinball machine recently to consider buying something like this, but I've also picked up a taste for absurdly complicated stuff like multiballs and missions and that sort of thing, while the tables that I've seen in this thread all look much simpler. Are there any more complex tables, and if not, is there anything else available like that? I remember enjoying that one table Android in some computer collection a while ago, Epic Pinball or something like that. I tried to find the collection again, but it seems that it's long since faded out of Windows compatibility.

Oh this is awesome. Its worth every penny for the Wii version. I'm curious to know how the 360 version will be quality wise.

Funhouse and Whirlwind are pretty complex/awesome. Taxi too, but after that things get pretty basic. Not any less awesome ('cept maybe Jive Time), however.

Anyway, would anyone be interested in the high score leaderboard I mentioned before? It would probably be best to do it as a wiki page so that anyone can update it with their own scores.

So I walked into a Zellers today, as I had not been in a Zellers for a while. Or rather the particular Zellers I went into today.

I had always known that they had a few copies of the Wii version sitting with the rest of crap in the shovelware pile. I hoped they would be discovered by others as the golden nuggets of gaming they really are.

    But no.

Today, I find them being sold bundled with these piece-of-shit controller covers or a look-alike of it that no one ever wants. So now it's gone from being a game that people might think is crap, to being a game that people will think they "know" is crap because it's bundled with the controller skins.

A big FU to everyone that ignored this game. I would not be surprised if the 360 and PS3 versions of this game become some of the rarest retail game discs to be sold. If they're not selling on the Wii and PS2, I can't see much hope for the 360/PS3 versions. I hope I'm wrong though.

In other news, I'm not sure when, but I somehow got all of the Wizard Goals for Funhouse. And yesterday or two days ago, I unlocked the slideshow. Go me! :D

Not quite Williams, but still fuckawesome pinball related: I was judging a Magic event in Asheville, NC (Hillside Games) a couple of weeks ago.

They have an Addams Family table.

OMG if I wasn't judging I would have been attached to that thing all day long. I told the owner it was coming home with me and he said "are you kidding? That pays my electric bill every month by itself!"

It's very popular, at least. I went to the Texas Pinball Festival this last Saturday and they had multiple Addams Family machines and Terminator 2 tables because of how much everyone loves them. They also had a working Baby Pac-Man and pristine Warlords cocktail cabinet among like a bunch of other cool machines (line-up is here still: http://www.texaspinball.com/pinlist.htm).

Some of my favorite pinball tables there were the Street Fighter II machine (especially the hilarious backglass art), Super Mario Brothers, the Phantom Menace machine, and Gorgar (thanks to the Wii game).

I've been becoming more and more fascinated by pinball solely based on my purchase of this game. I'm still nowhere near a point where I can play it well but I'm at least starting to recognize what I'm doing wrong. I definitely wanna go back to the festival next year, even if only to admire all the restored machines and watch the pros at play.

Twilight zone is one of the top 10 pinball machines out there, as well as cirqus voltaire and theater of magic.

I would say (out of the pins i've played)

    1 adams family
    2 twilight zone
    3 theater of magic
    4 medievil madness
    5 terminator 2
    6 cirqus voltaire
    7 fun house

whirlwind and taxi would be in the top 20 because of their uniqueness. Black hole would likely be 8.

I wish I could play a real version of Taxi or Whirlwind (I think I might have played Whirlwind at a hotel long ago, though), I have a lot of fun with both on this collection. There was supposed to be a Fun House at the festival but if it was there I couldn't find it. But I do remember at least two Twilight Zone tables and a Medieval Madness.

I've played Whirlwind IRL. It's... an experience. The spin-plates shake the table (not enough to trip TILT, obv) and IIRC it even blows wind at you, although my brain could just be fabricating that memory.

Okay after reading your description I'm POSITIVE that I've played it at least once, because you're right: that was one hell of an experience.

But now that I'm old enough to kinda know how to play pinball besides "mash both flippers", I'd love to try it again! Not sure how I'm gonna find one of those in Texas but here's hoping.

I will say the Wii graphics are kind of distractingly ugly at times, at least on my 50" plasma. Who knows if they'll actually bother to put more polygons in it or not (my guess is not), but even just the increased resolution should help.

I do like using waggle for nudges, but they might have SIXAXIS support for that.

I got this for Xmas on the Wii, and I play it now and again. I only realized after playing it for a few hours that Taxi was in my local arcade growing up, and I've played it in real life more than any other pinball machine. So that was a weird nostalgia trip for me. Used to love Space Shuttle too, but playing it now years later, it's not one of my favorites. Guess I had simpler tastes when I was 10 (as in "OMG look! spaceship!").

It made me laugh hardcore the first time I played it (I'm not too big on pinball's history so it was a bit of a shock to see an electromechanical table) but I ended up having a lot of fun on it nonetheless. I got to try something similar at TPF called "Beat Time", which was basically a Beatles pinball game that couldn't secure the license. Good times!

    Probably. :P

Although truly, my only problem with it (and Taxi, actually) is that some of the Table/Wizard goals for it involve a random result on the spinner.

Ok, my other problem with JT is that the ball-saving posts do a piss-poor job of actually saving the damned ball.
