Video conferencing options

I'm in Ethiopia with my brother helping him with an adoption. We'd like to set up some kind of video chat so the kid can talk to his new mom who is back in the US.

As far as I can tell access to skype seems blocked here. I can't even go to their web page. And my laptop has Vista and Yahoo messenger doesn't to video in Vista it seems.

Anyone have a good and easy option? I'll have to explain installation, setup, etc. over the phone.

[edit] Actually skype started magically working. Still can't get to their webpage though.

    Skype sucked for me.
    AIM is laggy.
ive tried 3 other messengers, including ICQ, all terrible.
The best is Windows Live Messenger. I do Video Calls on it every day for hours, and it works great.

    I highly recommend it.

Or you could use Stickam and use private chat.
    Dunno how effective that is.
