Can we get the chemicals in. 'Cause anything's better than this.
Just be aware that the calls are going out at the time.
Also, I'm pretty sure Gabe makes the calls (I might be wrong though).
They should probably announce when around they're doing them...
Sometimes I won't answer the phone cause I think it's my work.
If my boss calls me I firstly start charging at least an hour of OT for an off work time call, then tell him to stfu if he wants me to do something outside my normal hours :P
Either that or when my boss calls me, hes drunk, and I still charge OT
do they not send out an email as well? if you miss the first call, are you fucked?
That is my problem. I can't be at the phone all day. I figure it would be better if they left you a message, and you had 24 hours to get the call in, and then they moved on if you didn't get it in. That would be a lot more helpful.

Nope. You either answer the call or forfeit you shot at the big prize. I know at least one person who has missed the call. I also know one guy who got the call and didn't really know what the Omegathon was about. When he found out it would take the whole weekend, he turned it down without asking what the prize was. Boy was his face red when we told him.
Gabe called me last year, he woke me up, I let him know about it. But yeah, you gotta be ready right then. At the time I'd already bought airfare that left before PAX was over, and stupidly asked if I could call back after I called the airline. They needed a decision right then, so I ended up eating another $100 for a different return flight. Totally worth it.

I wish they would email as well as call. I mean, most people who read PA do have computers. My issue is, I work retail and I can't really get access to my home phone or cellphone during work time.
Something in the email that gets sent out with the registration information sent. No email? likely not to get called.
They could parse it like this-
"you may be selected for the omegathon! Make sure you are available! and ready to answer the phone from "such and such" area code.

I imagine they pretty much want to get the selection process over with ASAP so they can start coordinating it. When you have a potential pool of thousands, the easiest thing to do is pick one out of a hat, get a decision, and then move on.
They do post on the site when the calls are going to made. How is that different than getting an e-mail saying that you may be selected, which would require them to draw a large "pool" of contestants in advance?

I'm not saying that they shouldn't try to do it as quick as possible. It wouldn't kill them to either try back once more later on in the day or leave a message saying that you have an hour to respond.
Just one call attempt and nothing else just seems...lazy.

I think the phone-call adds a whole new element of fun and excitement. Thousands of Penny-Arcade fans, breathlessly waiting by their phone, hoping for their shot at greatness. It's a beautiful thing. I actually opted out because I was worried it would eat up the whole weekend. To anyone who has been and Omeganaught in the past. How much of PAX did you spend on the Omegathon?

But what if you don't have a phone to anxiously wait by?
I've just been informed by my folks that sometime between now and July 1st, my Verizon contract ends! Which means no number for them to call! Which means...GAAAAAAHHH!!!
Wasn't it this week last year that the Omeganauts were notified?
Last year was June 18th, around 11 am PDT. The calls have always gone out on a Monday.
If they are going out on monday, then it cant be the 18th. the 18th is a wednesday.
Hey, thanks for playing. But let me clarify. I looked back at all the threads about the omegathon that I could find, and figured out exactly when they placed the omegathon calls. I have found out that it's always been a monday. The time during the day the calls have been placed has changed, but the calls have always gone out on a Monday. Last year, that Monday was June 18th. If we go by that information for this year, we're looking at a June 23rd call day. But Gabe said during one of this comic drawings on ustream that the omegathon calls will be going out next month. Which might me that they are going for a 2006 calling timeframe. (Those calls went out July 31st - also a Monday - around 3pm PDT. ) which for this year, would be Monday August 4th. But that isn't next month, that's the month after. So then we have to look back at 2005. Now that info is a little sketchy, since there really wasn't any "OMG! I'm an omeganaut thread." back then, but I think I've tracked it down to July 25 that year - again, a Monday. If we use that time frame, then the calls are going out on Monday, July 28th this year.
Wow, I just scared myself reading that. And I guess I gotta have my phone on it's annoying ring for the next two months. And if they do the selection over the phone, they have normally been done within an hour, if they did e-mail, then the first round of e-mails would have to be at least 24 hours, then a second round of e-mails would have to go for another 24 hours, etc. If people were really smart, they would just have their cell-phone get forwarded to a hardline number (say... your parent's number) and tell them to say yes to the omegathon. (i wonder if that would be legit or not...)
My phone is going to be on, loud at all times. If anyone complains, well, that's just tough, I'm not missing a single call on Mondays from now on. The 6 hour time difference will be interesting!

I think you can contact brown paper tickets and let them know about your number change. You probably want to do it soon, though. I'm not sure when Gabe & Tycho pull their numbers.
So there's 6 round and only 2 people in the final round, but how does the elimination break down? Like 1st round 2 people go 2nd 2.... etc. Basically how does the whole thing play out.

do they give any warning at all beforehand on the site? that'd be helpful.
i'm probably worrying for nothing though. the likelihood of me getting drawn is practically nil. my luck is for shit!
Oh well. Lets hope that I don't accidentally hit the 'deny' button trying to pull my phone out of my pocket.
