Moe, you're slightly off. The 6th round is the final round, so only one person gets eliminated. Or to put it another way,

    1st round: 20 remaining
    2nd round: 16 remaining
    3rd round: 12 remaining
    4th round: 8 remaining
    5th round: 4 remaining
    6th round: 2 remaining

I would love to see some sort of classic arcade machine show up for the omegathon.

Warlords for the final round with gabe and tycho mixed in as the two other players, but thats not going to happen.

    That would be awesome.

So, shouldn't they announce soon? I am getting really nervous (so nervous I moved the main phone up into my room and answer every single call). I don't figure it will be me, as there are a lot of people who want the same thing, but I suppose there is always a chance to try.

The Omegathon is a total riot. Unfortunately, it does tend to take up your entire PAX time being shuffled from event to event, especially on the 2nd day (Saturday). On the plus side, you do get the benefit of being able to cut ahead of certain lines, ala VIP status, even if you are eliminated in the first round.

As far as not being good, I wouldn't sweat it too much. I barely managed to advance in every round last year, but still ended up getting to the finals. My motto was that I didn't have to win, just be good enough to advance. 3rd place is just as good as 1st in a four player game and 8th place is just as good as 1st in a 12 player game.

Good luck to all who get chosen and I can't wait to meet/play you guys or gals.

I think the runners up really get the best deal in the Omegathon, since you get to compete two consecutive years with all that VIP access.

Yeah, Dave and I honestly were discussing, in the months before PAX, what to do if he got in the finals and throwing the game was part of it.

(Don't worry though, by the time PAX rolled around, Dave was out for blood. It was first or bust and I think Dave's Calling All Cars match showed that.)

It sucked seeing Dave getting eliminated in the 4th round. Even though I was against him, I still wanted to see him win if I got eliminated early. I believe that G&T told me you get one "redo" if you get second place. Finish second place again and you will not be returning. Ergo...

1st or bust for me this year! :x

So--random thought--for the folks who cannot remember what phone number you placed for your order (like me) to make sure that said phone is near you at all times; here is what I did.

Go back to the PAX main page and click on "Registration" and pretend as if you are registering for tickets once again. However, when you get transfered to the Brown Paper Tickets site, click on home and it will take you to their homepage. Near the middle on the left-hand side, there will be a box where you can ask of the order status. Either enter the last name that the tickets are registered under OR the confirmation order #. One that is done, it will then ask for the last 8 digits of the credit card that you used to charge the tickets to. Once hat is complete, it will bring up the whole confirmation information...including the phone number that you placed it on.

I know. Seriously wordy for something simple...but hey! At least I know to have my Mobile near me at ALL times.

I just thought of an epic final round:

A game of 4th edition D&D with Tycho as the DM. You have to both fight eachother to the death.

Yeah, you think that a 1 v 1 duel would be cool, but Thanda and I tried that when we were doing some head to head gaming for the podcast, (which ironically got put on hold when he got the omegathon call, so he could play me head to head in the omegathon games for practice.) And i do have to say to cut down on meta-gaming, we actually had to have the other person leave the room when we didn't know where either person was in the arena. It was not fun at all.

    Are you sure on that?

Last year Gabe made the announcement that they were going put the call out on june 15th... and as we know, it was actually june 18th.

Year before? Nothing. (I even read all the newsposts from June till the omeganauts were announced on Aug 11th)

2005? Tycho made a post on July 25th saying that over 20 people had said no to the Omegathon when he was doing the calling right then. So he posted after he even started calling.

So there maybe a post about them doing the calling, and their might not be. But being as this is your chance to be in the Omegathon, the most awesome tournement in the world, and would blow your head clean off in excitement if you got picked, you've got to ask yourself one question: Do I feel lucky? Well, do ya, punk?

Looks like this years participants, whomever they may be, will have less time for training than last year. It wouldn't surprise me if G&T did that on purpose to make the rounds a little closer.

I think the only reason they havn't been called yet is because of the 4th of July being where it is. If I remember correctly, Gabe is going to be out of town next week.

Who wants to bet on July 14th being the call date?
