It's weird; this is one of the only games I can remember where the more info released and the more interviews given by the designers to hype it up have actually detracted the amount of excitement I have for it. Something about Dyack, hereby agreeing with Zombiemambo, being pretentious, as well as never shutting the fuck up. The whole E3 06 fiasco, that bitchfest he had on 1up, and his arrogant attitude towards game developers that don't maintain the development philosophy that SK has (see GDC story panel) has just rubbed me the wrong way, considering he's the director of the game. Plus, he's always talking about "moral imperatives in game design", as though anyone seriously gives a fuck, and hyping his own shit up (with unverified claims). It's like fucking Angels and Airwaves (if anyone can remember that amount of self-propagation that went on with their first album).
It's all just served to make me cynical and bitter towards the product, almost independent of the game itself, which is a shame I'll hopefully get over. It's probably not an entirely fair approach to take with the game, considering it looks interesting, but its like when a politician does/says something really stupid or insensitive. Sure, in the end, it may not make them a "worse" candidate for the actual job, but it still leaves you feeling sour for supporting them.
Is the coop available on a single box? I would love to be able to pick it up and be able to play through with my brother without having to get two copies.
From what I hear yes.
Drop in drop out too I think. So I assume that means, like Guild Wars or something, you can hire AI henchmen to accompany you on your missions.
It doesn't seem any more generic looking than, say, Mass Effect. I don't see what the complaints are about.
Mass Effect wasn't generic, it had a unique sleek retro 70's sci fi style to it. It was anything but generic.
It's an interesting comparison to make though, because both games have robots making up the vast majority of enemies, Mass Effect's Geth however looked really different and interesting. While the various robot trolls and so forth here look like they could have come out of the Matrix, or the Chronicles of Riddick game, FEAR or pretty much ANYTHING. They don't have a unique interesting style to them, they just look like... bland robots.
I don't know, the robots in the 1st and 4th screenshots look pretty unique. I can't see the videos though as I'm at work.
Mass Effect had a unique flavor, true, but it also had a lot of "generic" thrown in. The random planets, the random space ships, the random buildings... all the same, with slight palette changes.
I thought the graphics looked nice enough in motion - much better than the screenshots.
But I hope the Champion isn't representative of the classes - lots of buffing and procs. I just find those kind of 'powers' very very dull. I want something to do - an active power of some kind.
If you look at Diablo 2's skill tree, most of the skills are active. That's something that goes well with an ultra-easy combat interface. Not buffs and procs.
Well keep in mind, they only really went through one tree. There's the two "alignment" trees for each class as well. I'm guessing that those trees are going to be the majority of the actual "spells." So for the champion one might be gun abilities the other melee abilities, for the Bioengineer/healer class one might be healing spells while the other is a buff/ability tree.
I'm completely pulling that out of my ass, of course, but that would make the most sense.
I don't quite get why so many people want to dislike this game. It looks pretty cool to me and if it delivers the way that it could, it's going to end up being a must-buy.
Now that's with the caveat that I loves me some hacking, slashing, and loot collecting and I know that's not for everybody.
But come on people, put down your hateorade and bring some love.
Yeah it's really hard to find consistent info on this game, I'm trying to find info on whether or not the game will support coop on one console, maybe i'll send the question into the Q&A for the developer interview
I can never watch there high def versions of videos...
Anyway looked ok there, I would of liked some more combat, the talking head companion thing was kinda cool. I wonder if that will be something we use in the actual game.
The VA seemed kinda cheesey lol
They need to stop releasing cutscenes. They just make the game less and less appealing. Seriously, what fourteen year old is doing their animations? Even in a cutscene with basically no action, it was bugging me non-stop.
Yeah I really wonder why they would choose to show that. About the only thing that seemed even close to finished there were some of the character textures. Everything else seemed pretty placeholder/early (at least I would hope it is!). It's really not doing the game any favours to be showing stuff like that.

Yeah, I'm actually going to have to say I'm the other way around. I want to like this game. The concept sounds awesome, and the way it's described sounds great, but everything we've seen of it in motion just has me going "eeh..." I'll wait to see what the final product's like, but everything they've shown so far just isn't clicking for me.

A thousand times THIS. I mean, a next-gen Diablo clone with 4 player co-op on XBL? This should be oozing awesome from every pore. None of the cutscenes or gameplay videos have managed to make me the least bit excited, and there have been tons of them. That's a pretty serious problem, and definitely worthy of liberal spreading of skepticism and haterade.
Yeah the animations are a bit stiff, kinda like that reboot show or beast wars...that does kinda suck. I just want some more gameplay vids!
In the end I don't think it will matter, I will buy it no matter how it is, I bought and played Hellgate on release and well that game was messed, although now it's a lot better

This has been updated. Dennis stated that 4 just wasnt working from a gameplay perspective, there wasnt enough room. It was enough for me to not want the game anymore. alot of potential, but in the end itill probably not matter. I wish it the best of luck though.
edit: I am also concerned that they have yet to show anything regarding the cyberspace, just that there is a subworld in the game you have to explore that is essentially the internet from the dystopia mod for HL2.

I'm not sure I buy that 4 player not working business. Whatever the reason, the drop down to 2-player co-op really squelched my enthusiasm for this game.
...Yah, I don't see whats so "deep" about the skill tree system if every class has so meager (un-original) choices. The three choices for the berserker are attack speed, movement speed & damage. Whats worse its "skill modifier" -> "spider skill" -> "shout skill"-> "skill modifier" in all of the trees.
For "only" two player co-op I think they couldn't get the netcode good enough for four player mayhem. ("Too much chaos"-excuse is so bad, let the players decide how many they can invite into the game it's not that hard to figure out).

Fable 2 has this exact same system.

These days, generic means "I've seen something that uses polygons and textures before".

Maybe they should delay it again... then again the damn thing's been in development since the Playstation ONE days.

Is that really it for skill trees? Is that all of it? Shit.
The rune system will help, sure, but it's a little disappointing.
