I figure its the patch server being down, because it doesn't even try and download just bam right to the error. And there isn't a support file on it, so I'm hoping fingers crossed. So when will the servers be back up for patching? I'm not EA but I would like to be good to go.
i think they went down at 9pm gmt, meaning uhhh, 2 more hours? i'm figuring this all out in my head so i'm probably like 5 hours off...ha

whatever 5 hours is after they actually went down....

I got mine in the mail today (preorder from GameStop). Also Southern California.

Doesn't much matter since I've been playing since Saturday but I have a box and manual now, plus a neat lore book as a preorder bonus.

Quick question: would this run moderately well with a 7900GTS, 2 gigs of RAM and a 2.3ghz CPU?

What kind of 2.3ghz CPU? Because gigahertz is really a meaningless speed rating these days.

Without knowing the CPU type though, I would say "Most likely it will be fine".

I ran the open beta passably with my athlon 64 2.4 ghz, 1.5 gigs of ram and SLI'd 7600 GT'S. 30fps in the single player areas... I think my ram was limiting me in the other areas because i'd move about 20 'feet' and then it would freeze to load some more. From what I understand it's running much better now, so I'm looking forward to starting this up in a month or so :)

It's going to eat me up seeing my collectors edition sitting there unopened until I get ready to play though.

Sorry, forgot to say my CPU is an Athlon 64 3700+. Anyways, as long as the ololboobs isn't too extreme I think I'll pick this up. I've been itching for a PvP experience that's not WoW-related after playing Planetside.

Where are you rolling, JAEF? PvE or PvP? If the former, consider hitting me up on Derekto.

Also re: failing to download info files... when the servers are down, EVERYTHING is down. No patches, no info updates, nothing. Learnt that in the beta.

Doing normal mode dungeons solo or duo is great XP though. basically just an endless stream of mobs to kill with no possibility of being ganked. The basement of The Black Castle is really nice for this with mobs respawning as fast as you can kill them. You can probably handle this place at 28 if you're careful.

At the moment, one (me). I logged off not long after I posted about getting it created. I didn't know about the guild application process at the time so I forgot to set it up for open applications. I'll do that when I get home tonight ('round 9 Pacific) so that folks can apply whenever they're on and I can accept invites in big chunks.

To all fellow collector's edition peeps: Has anyone figured out the "guest pass" thing yet? On the little cards that were in the box, it says to visit your account page to get them, but I don't see them?

Also, the front of the card says "details on back" and back of the card says "see back for details." If the goal is how to keep an idiot busy, well....

I'll be picking this up tomorrow and most likely playing on PvE, not because I don't like FFA PvP, I just have the feeling it's going to be a bit too retarded the first month.

Something to do with the perk each Soldier class has that builds up as teammates take damage. I think the Conq's heals and at its peak has a chance to rez.

Well, I'm sure by now you've put together that attacks in this game are directional: look where the shields aren't and attack. The ranged attack is the same way: no pussy autoshot here, you have to pick each shot. And instead of melee combos, you pick your "ability" and click the appropriate arrow. According to the manual, you can also go into first person for enhanced percision or some shit, but I'll be damned if I know how.

You also get traps (a root is the only thing I have) and your abilities do either extra damage or debuffs or dots. The trap animation is pretty cool when a humanoid gets in it; like, old cartoon foot in a bear trap kind of stuff. But not as over-the-top.

And the first bow I got was bigger than my character, which was pretty cool.

And unlike other games, if a mob is in your face, you best click the "swap weapons" button. I find my ranger is very versitile in melee, once an enemy gets close. I've gotten more melee combos/abilities than ranged ones at my level. My encounters are all pretty much: set trap, slow one mob, let the speedy one hit the trap, dot the slow one, shoot it, swap to a sword, beat it to death, and then solo the other. Very, very satifisying and it doesn't seem to get boring.

And ranged fatalities? Lets just say that for blood to hit your screen from range I guess it kind of makes sense to make a jugular assplode.

This makes me happy to know that Rangers benefit from directional attacks, as well.

Going to edit in that I am definitely waiting a month or two for this to level out.
