I would play AoC until WotLC comes out. One of the only reasons I am still playing WoW is because I haven't yet "finished" the Burning Crusade content and I want to see everyting once. Once I do that (and get a decent flying mount) I will be able to cool my heels for a bit until WotLC is out.

How far in 25-man content are you? I've only been up to SSC, and while I could easily be in Hyjal/BT right now I really don't feel like wrapping my work schedule around raid times so I can sit in a chair and ignore my family for 4 hours straight 3 or 4 night a week anymore
So I've gone to leveling up as many 70s as I can before WotLK (I only had one until 3 months ago, played a warrior only for 18 months) now I have 3 and am working on a 4th. But since money is tight I really won't pay for two game subscriptions. And on the other hand, I don't want to plunk down $50 for Conan to find out I don't like it.

my suggestion to you is to wait for when our buddy codes become available and try it that way then.
The post-20 areas don't really impress me right away, but I need to ask anyone above 20:
Do the areas/quests actually improve? It seems at first like you suddenly have quests that are way more "Fedex" style than you had in Tortage, and I don't really like that. Suddenly the first quests you get send you across tons of different zones and you can get even more quests there that send you back and forth between even more zones and aaaaaaaaaah! I need a good levelling guide, because at 20 I suddenly feel very, very lost and unforucsed.
EDIT: Can we talk about WoW somewhere else? Even if it relates to your decision to buy or pass on Conan, going into this kind of depth isn't really on-topic.
i managed to not die on the volcano quest on my HoX, but that's only because you got at most 2 fuckers at a time and waiting for demon form to cooldown was enough to win
Yeah, Bear Shamans really come into their own after level 20. I've got a 25 Bear Shaman that shreds stuff easily. I normally fight groups of 2-3 npc's no problem unless I get ganked by some asshole :P
I've found the questing in Cimmeria to be pretty decent and fast paced.
Classes are definitely not balanced for those destiny quests. Some classes just can't take on 3-4 even level mobs at those levels. It's kind of silly.
None of the classes I've tried thus far seem to be able take on 3-4 even level mobs period. Its part of the reason my highest character is level 7 still. Any time there is more than 2 things I have about a 90% death rate and its frustrating. So far I've tried HoX, Conquerer, ToS, and Barbarian. Once I get to Tortage, all the quests are a series of dieing and running back.

I'm not finding that so much. Yes, lots of running around at first but me and my brother did a bunch of quests in Khopshef first and then once those more or less ran out we just moved to the Wild Lands of Zelata (turning in a few fedex quests on the way). The biggest issue so far has been with quest log space running out at one point so we had to concentrate on small areas one at a time to make some space. That said, don't just take my word for it, I'm one of those crazies that does all the quests even when they've turned grey.
Yeah, there's alot of running around, but alot of the quests are grouped together once you get to them. Last night what I'd do was take every quest in town, run out to the general area they are in, get a level killing all the necessary stuff, and then run back to town and get another level from quest reward xp.
just to clarify: i get all my spell and abilities when i level and or through my talent trees, so i never have to talk to my trainer for anything but respecs right?
dangit i want to play some more but i am stuck at work for four more houurss nooooo

I'm up to 25 and haven't had to visit any sort of trainer yet. So at least for the time being the answer is yes!

Man, you're doing it wrong. Barbarians and ToS can slaughter whole groups. I can't speak to the others.
EDIT: Here's a hint. Position all the group in your melee cone as a Barb or any other melee class. Same with the Herald and Hellfire.

34, still haven't gone to any trainers except that one time when I wanted to respec. So still yes :P
Also, @warder, the auction house system isn't working right now. Traders (ah/mail/bank) have been for a few days now, no idea when they're coming back up.

All I've seen of the ah system was a little before it came down and that was just me putting an item in the bankbox, right clicking it, selecting a price that I want for it (just buyout, there is no bidding) and... that's it cause the next day traders had been taken down.

Re: control scheme: the alt button helps immensely. I'll probably go for a UI mod once I have a few more combos, but for now I just keep WASD where it is, and 123 as primary attacks. On my second action bar (the one that comes up when you hold down alt) I have batter aside, hail of furious strikes, and enraging wound on 123, and then most of my buffs from 6-0 (with some on the vertical bar on the side). A few other combos on 4 and 5 on the regular bar and I rarely have to move my hand except when gearing up for a boss mob when I have to put on extra buffs like lumbering hulk or one of my battle cries. (when do I get an actual banner for my Conqueror is what I want to know)
I couldn't ever lose the mouse, because of that damn autofacing function. I'm swinging a five foot greatsword, damnit, there's no reason for me to be facing the guy on the left just because he got closest first. I'm constantly holding the right mouse button in order to keep myself aimed at the center of the pack and therefore spreading damage evenly. If anyone knows how to disable this (or how to map a "switch targets" button) I'd be eternally grateful.
Im thinking about getting this. Im playing wow right now. After trying Hellgate London, I realize that if a social game is missing chat linking for items, an AH, and a mail system it sucks when trying to trade stuff.
I may wait for the friend codes to kick in.

Agreed. On White Sands I could regularly take two or even three mobs one or two levels above me simultaneously on my conqueror. It sound like you're missing some key mechanic but I have no idea what it is.

As Angry said, you should be able to turn off the 'auto-facing'.. alternatively, you can use 'tab' to switch target, so if you did want to keep auto-facing on, you could use Tab to target the ceneter mob in a group which will thus allow you to hit the others at his sides.
Regarding class balance, I got a Conqueror to 11 the other day (my highest level char yet since I'm a chronic altoholic), and so far it has been the most powerful class of all of them, at least at this low level. I would basically charge into groups of enemies and just mow them down. I can't decide between 2-handed or dual-wield styles just yet, and have been switching between them as I get new weapons. I think I'm leaning towards the 2-hander just because I made my dude max height with gigantic muscles, and it suits him far better.
In 6 months AoC can be "the mmo" for adult gamers, it's fantastic for casuals as is tho, having a blast.
(I don't dare to look at the content for level 80's tho, but the polish on the first 30 levels will keep me busy for quite a few weeks/months I'm a slowpoke...)
Seriously. Def stance + Lumbering Hulk means you can kill 3 or 4 even level mobs easily. Why would you use Frenzy and only be able to take one at a time, at which point over half your health is gone?
Unless you're killing -5s for a green quest. Then Frenzy is awesome.
I am finding my HoX to be a tough bastard even though we wear cloth. Must be the 2 or 3 buffs to defence (depending on whether or not we go demonic) we carry around at all times.

omg HoX buddies
i was thinking about going for the avatar tree because demon form is awesome shit
i haven't been using spells at all, just combos and melee, how does your combat go?
Holy fuck is this the greatest class ever. Hybrid melee with an FPS flare and tactics too? Oh shit nerd boner.
Only thing that sucks is I wish I could bind a key to toggle between a set camera angle and first person so I didn't have to mouse scroll in and out every time. Besides that this shit is white hot at the moment.
Also making it better is I'm actually doing the single player quest line which I had avoided before which left me with the option of getting slaughtered by high teens at White Sands or shite red quests. By the time I'm done here I'll get to go own some teen level cunts at White Sands myself.
Btw back on Stormrage since I felt dirty playing on a PvE server. Can't get the guild to show up in the search list atm.. the UI for this game still kind of sucks. And I still can't get hotkeys bound to mouse buttons.
edit.. ps - my first post-level 10 death came at the hands of... a cliff. climbed up a high ass wall for my single player quest, a guard was patrolling near me so I tried to back up a bit so I could shoot him.. and waaaaah splat. 30 mins for a debuff is kind of harsh even if it's weak, imo.

I rarely use hellfire breath either. I am speccing avatar as well, with some points in the default mage tree.
You get an awesome spell at level 20 that really spells out (haha) how the class is meant to be played. No pulling for us.. just get right in there and burninate shit.
Hehe same I tried necro, bs and HoX finally "clicked" for me, it's a matter to find the right glove for your hands, AoC actually requires some playerskill to come into the table, I think there's actually a class that you can be BETTER at, not a matter of gear/level alone imo.

not sure if you could reach it or not, but you can make the debuff disappear if you click on your tombstone

kill 4 dudes via attrition (ie, dying 3-4 times) then do it again
fuck yeah
my bear shaman died 25 times on the first volcano destiny quest.
my barb didn't die once on any of the destiny quests.
i hear bear shamans are fuckawesome, but man, there is going to be a shortage of them because everyone deletes them after the volcano.
grumble grumble

auctions have been down since early access, yes to linking, mail system i don't honestly know.

This game really breaks some boundries of other mmos.
do not do it!
There's some quests to break/blow stuff up hehe.

i mean if you're buying an mmo, you probably have access to the internet
maybe being rock hard is the key to victory in this game
How hard? Rock hard.
Because that is annoying.
