Haha, awesome, in Lylat Wars (the PAL version of Star Fox 64) you can set the language to Lylat, and everyone warbles and makes weird noises instead of talking like in the SNES game.

Ah man! That's awesome! I don't think that's in the NA version of the game!

"Bubba duh geddin'!"
It's not the exact same noises, disappointingly.
Well that's because they're saying different things! :P
It's a funny little touch though. They added the lylat language to StarFox Command as well.
Almost all mine have been said but I'll do it anyway. Basically Rare could do no wrong and 1st party games are awesome.
Shooters: Goldeneye (must get), Perfect Dark
3rd Person Shooters: Jet Force Gemini, Buck Bumble
Platformers: Mario 64. Donkey Kong, Banjo-Kazooie, Both Mystical Ninja's
Racers: Mario Kart 64, WaveRace
Fighters: Super Smash Brothers
If I didn't have a huge backlog of current games, this makes me want to hookup the n64 back up to the TV.
And I can't believe other people liked Buck Bumble. It was awesome and maybe just for the opening music at the least.
forgive my typing, this cut on my finger is screwing with how i type.
i agree; there's not really a good reason to get the first smash brothers. sometimes sequels just do everything better than previous entries, and this is true of melee and then brawl.
and my most played games on the n64 were, by far, the thq/aki wrestling games. Back then, it was because i was a huge wrestling fan, now, I still play them just because they're good emphasis on no mercy.
Filthy lies. I played it extensively again while waiting for Brawl and it is still as much fun and as epic as it ever was. It has a certain kind of magic that neither Melee nor Brawl was ever able to replicate.
This thread has a serious lack of Episode 1: Podracer. I mean, come on.
it's better on the dreamcast
but yeah
WHy the fuck couldn't they nail down 60fps in the DC version.
It boggles my mind.
Boggles, I tell you.
I played this on the PC back in the day with my Voodoo 3 3000 AGP. That card was bitchin'.
The game is fucking awesome. Probably the best thing about Episode 1 in its entirety.
edit:
also I just found this on Wikipedia, answers the DC version question and explains the N64's goodness:
While the PC, Mac and Dreamcast versions of Episode 1 Racer were largely the same, the Nintendo 64 release had to be scaled back somewhat due to the system's hardware and cartridge format limitations. As a result none of the full motion video cinemas from the PC/Mac/Dreamcast ports are included, the polygon counts are much lower, there are fewer textures which are also lower in resolution, and the soundtrack is scaled down considerably. Throughout the career mode only the Episode 1 title track plays during the final lap of each race. The Nintendo 64 version supported the optional Expansion Pak, which enabled switching between Low Resolution (standard) and High Resolution (enhanced) modes via the options menu. Unfortunately the frame rate and control response suffered perceptibly in high resolution mode, which, alongside a distracting vertical-line effect in the high resolution textures, meant that the game actually played better in blurry low resolution standard mode.
The PAL Dreamcast version did not support the console's 60Hz mode.
I had way too much fun playing this with friends, i can't comment on other versions being better, but i loved the N64 version. Loved playing versus with friends, and also working together taking turns on the tournament. I played it quite recently again, and it holds up really well today, apart from the obviously sucky frame rate most N64 games have.

Mystical Ninja is fantastic, easily one of the best games on the system. You do need the memory pack to save your game though, which is mildly annoying.
The dancing guys on the side, the oddity of the Plasma Man himself, the music.. everything was so right with those scenes.
But besides that it's also one of the best platformers ever, a 2.5d game with heavy Japanese mythology influence (I think anyway as everything from the game shows up in other Japanese cultural things). It's a blast to play.

Also, Saffron City.
This mainly has to do with how few games actually came out on it.
*I'm discounting the Neo Geo here as I really consider it a slightly cheaper arcade alternative.

Couldn't recommend this game anymore.

I still have my N64 and Podracer.
This.
Even if you get it just to see the Plasma Man it's worth it. One of the greatest things I have ever seen in a video game.
Ever.

I KISS YOU!
This. Epic story. Incredible music. 80+ hours of gameplay. Enormous unit variety. Recruitable monsters/enemies. Tons of weapons. Great graphics.
So many ways to play. I will never sell this game.
