I've got a few odds and sods among my SNES collection, though these days I tend to find I favor my favorite games, even though many of them aren't particularily rare, over many of the rarer or quirkier pieces.
I did manage to get my grail a while ago, which serves as a personal high point for me..
All three in the series. All complete and in mint condition. Athough, many might be mistaken for assuming which of the three makes the group special :P
Then there's the talking points as mentioned in the OP
the coolest thing i have is my saturn, and a copy of guardian heroes.
Nice. I only managed to get GH in japanese on eBay, english version was way too expensive.
i have many memories renting that game from the movie store, back when you could rent saturn games. i shoulda just bought it, but i didn't know what it would become! i had to pick it up again later, if only to do some poetic right to the little gamer inside me.
edit: cj iwakura, i envy you. saturn's where it's at!
There's this small games shop near where I live that has an excellent catalog of older games and systems. I picked up a reconditioned NES along with River City Ransom, Mario 3, Super C, Kid Icarus, and Megaman 2. Some of the games look like they've been through hell, but they all still work.
I have only ever gotten to the second level of Super C once. I think Konami must've thought that everyone in the world was Korean.
Sadly I'm visiting my folks In NY at the moment but my collection highlights are definitely my NEO Geo 4-Slot MVS in the dining room and my over 120 NES games in custom holder I built to display them(modded CD holders) Plus people love my fully functional ROB, even though he no longer works with our HD TV.

Gamewise? Not much. I do have some nice swag. The original Metal Gear Solid soundtrack teaser that was given away as a pre-order bonus for the Playstation game. The cloth map for FF8 and a Vivi doll (had two) that was a present for signing up on Square's site when it first launched. Also have both the original Sephiroth and Vincent figures from the first FF7 line.
Somewhere I have a ZX Spectrum with some games, including Elite. Unless I threw it out in which case I don't have a ZX Spectrum with Elite. I should probably check that out.
Oh, forgot. I have an Amstrad Mega PC somewhere. It was a hybrid Windows 3.11 PC and Genesis, and was fucking awesome. I hope I've still got the beige Amstrad-branded pad to go with it.

@vgreminders - Don't miss out on timed events in gaming! @gamefacts - Totally and utterly true gaming facts on the regular!
I have a few gems, but I didn't start meticulously saving all my games until the last year or so of the Playstation era.
The best thing, though, is that I recently discovered a bonanza of old PC games. Longest Journey on 4 CDs, 2 copies of Alpha Centauri, Shogo, Septerra Core, and a fuckton of old LucasArts games.
The best thing is that in addition to the games, I still have the instruction books from SMAC, TLJ, the notebook from MYST, and all the fighter schematics from Wing Commander 2.
Hmmmm, I own a GP32 and a NGPC, which are uncommon but not really rare.
What I have that people usually comment on is this
I also have an imported copy of Gunbird for the Saturn. I got it for $3. I could have had a copy of Radiant Silvergun for $3 as well, but in the greatest failure of nerd fu that man has ever known, I didn't buy it because I forgot what game it was for ten minutes
I also still own an Apple II and a stack of games for it. Although the keyboard is lost so I can't play them anymore (until I find another one somewhere, of course)
I think the best part of my collection are my copies of Pools of Radiance and Curse of the Azure Bonds for commodore 64. They are not mint but they are complete.
Google Image found this I will try and remember to take some shots of my copies when I get home.
Sadly I do not have c64 any longer so they shit on a shelf just being awesome.
What makes my collection special, other than me having better taste in games than everyone else?
This.

I don't have much that would impress most people here, but I've kept every single PC game I've ever bought, back to around 92 or so. I used to keep the boxes, too, but once I moved away from home I just didn't have the room any more. I do have most of the documentation, odds and ends like Claw Marks, gold box code wheels, cloth maps, etc. How I do miss the days of picking up the box for a PC game and it having actual weight.
I have a Metroid Prime 3 standee display. Four Nintendo Power pull out posters. That black Donkey Kong clock. A Mario 3 lightswitch from someone on eBay. A Zelda Twilight princess poster from some game conference off eBay. French Video Game Heroes stamps.
While not mine, my brother managed to get both gold editions of the N64 Zeldas.
I think the only gray MM carts are the Japanese ones.
I have Zelda Collectors Edition, Red-blooded Ganon Ocarina of Time cart, holographic label MM, Ocarina of Time Master Quest in Japanese, several other Japanese games, a Hori N64 Pad Mini, a Hori Digital Controller (The one that looks like a Super Nintendo controller), Tingle's Balloon Fight, and some others.
Mother 3 is another one. But I don't have the Franklin Badge
I don't think my collection is particularly special, but I do own all 3 Playstations + a PSP. I'm quite proud of my phat PS1 that is still in great working condition, as well as my growing collection of Square RPGs: FF7 (nonGH), Chrono Cross, FF Anthology, FF Chronicles, and Xenogears coming in the mail.
Oh, and I have the Cloud/Fenrir and Sephiroth Advent Children action figures. They're pretty badass.
All I can really claim in games are the original System Shock, Planescape: Torment, Zone of the Enders 2 and the pc version of Final Fantasy VIII, and the complete cloth map edition of Ultima VII.
Oh, I do have an American McGee's Alice figure and soundtrack, I suppose.
The only really rare things I own aren't games. Once More With Footnotes, for instance.

I have a ton of stuff that's become uncommon over time or is just plain not normal:
Japanese stuff
Mana Blue LE GBA SP w/Rabite pouch
Sword of Mana (GBA)
Seiken Densetsu 3 (S. Famicom)
Final Fantasy V (S. Famicom)
Tales of Phantasia (S. Famicom)
Bahamut Lagoon (S. Famicom)
Monster Hunter 2 (PS2)
Super Robot Wars Original Generations (PS2)
Uncommon sampling
The Legend of Zelda (NES) Grey cart, battery still works.
Syndicate (PC) Still have the awesome box.
The SNES & PSX Square RPGs I don't have are Secret of Evermore, Parasite Eve, and Threads of Fate.
Both Final Fantasy 7 demos (PSX)
The Ocarina of Time Master Quest (GCN)
Games you never heard of
Amagon (NES)
Super Baseball Simulator 1.000 (SNES)
Shadow Warrior (PC)
Arc the Lad Collection (PSX)
Gun Griffon Blaze (PS2)
I have a full collection list someplace, I'll try to remember the URL.
I also have a stuffed Poring. It was hand-made for me by friend from Brazil as a surprise. It's pretty special, if only to me.
Wow, my epeen feels small comparitively. I think all's I got is a gold cartridge Zelda OoT. I do have the Ninja Gaiden sword stylus for my DS, but that's hardly something to brag about. It does make a neat conversation piece, at least until somebody takes it from me and swings it around playfully...and accidently stabs somebody in the eye.
Edit: Oh yeah, and the Zelda Collector's disc.

It would appear there ain't no rest for the wicked...who knew?
- Metal Gear Solid 3 Subsistence Limited Edition, with red box and cinematic disc.
- Legend of Zelda Collectors Disc which contains LoZ, LoZ 2, Ocarina and Majoras.
- Zone of the Enders The 2nd Runner
As for non-game items that are game related...
- Mannequin hand that was a promo deal for the DS
- Pink Kirby Stylus for the DS
- White Nintendo DS tshirt
- Bioshock Big Daddy figure
Those are the only uncommon games and stuff I really have left. I've sold a lot of stuff.
Games you never heard of
Amagon (NES)
Super Baseball Simulator 1.000 (SNES)
Shadow Warrior (PC)
I loved me some Amagon. Thats another cart I'm gonna have to pull out and play tonight. :~(
SBS 1.000 was great! Amazing how much more fun powerups make baseball. That, Cyberball, and Tecmo Football (in the arcade) are the only sports games I've every really liked.
"Push push in the bush, little bunny!" - Up until TF2, Shadow Warrior was the only FPS I ever liked, mainly cause of the voiceovers.
I don't know about special, but off the top of my head I've got gold carts for Zelda 1-2-Majora's Mask and Orcarina of Time 1.0 (arabic shield, chanting, red blood and all) ~50 atari 2600 carts, complete boxes of X-Wing and TIE Fighter in both 3.5 floppy and CD special editions, and goodness-knows how many booklets and manuals and maps and whatnot from the NES era, including LTTP's map of Hyrule which I noticed while cleaning earlier.
...meh.

Ritual sacrifice.
26 games for the Wii
=/
also well over 100 games for the Atari 2600 and the paddles that came with the circus game (it's been a while).
I have only ever gotten to the second level of Super C once. I think Konami must've thought that everyone in the world was Korean.

Maybe I've gotten rusty. Or perhaps you are from Korea.
Either could answer the disparity in our experiences.
