I always enjoyed playing around with water as a kid, so lately I've been sinking my creativity into fountains. They're awesome.
Bought a ton of copper gutters that had a nice patina and some tile from Lowes, and here's the first thing I knocked together:
Sure, it looks boxier than a 1980s SUV, but it was
fun as hell to build, and it actually works nice, with water all bubbling up in the top basin and running down the sides in torrents. I just need a higher flow pump with less velocity. I can solve that by using a wider diameter tube. I also forgot to make a good way to hide the cord.
I'm coming up with something that uses more copper tubing and less tile. Something crazy and elaborate and actually 'art'. I figure that since I already sold the boxy tile fountain on craigslist for $200, I can't exactly do worse.
I'll get some pics uploaded of some of my sketches and pieces of channeling/piping that I've put together already. It took around five tries to get a basin for the above fountain that fit perfectly, so I took the attempts and am turning them into a series of channels that water flows down, sort of like this
except less organic and more cyclopean.
This is better than level design.

Crazy and elaborate doesn't make art. The simplicity of your first fountain may be the best part about it. Was the tube concealed? If not, think about investing in some masonry bits to drill through tile if you intend on using tile in the future. Tube and cords poking out of sculptural objects isn't always a pretty sight.
I also have an excellent idea involving a hanging sheet of slate with the bottom half broken at an angle, with a corrugated section of gleaming beaten copper filling up the broken part, making the whole hanging thing square and whole.
I am going to waste so much money on copper.
