USB Game Controller Issue (PC)

I've been using an N64 emulator on my pc and I've been using a Gamemon USB plugin for a controller. Everything works fine except sometimes left/right or up/down are incredibly slow and unresponsive. I've tried toggling the dead zone back and forth, and turning it all the way fixes it a little bit, but nothing significant.

Any ideas as to what's wrong and what I can do?

    I found out it's just the joy-stick. On the calibration setup, it works fine, but for some reason in-game isn't so hot. When I switch it over to the analog pad, however, movement is just peachy.
