Hey needs some help with Disgaea 1 on PSP, anyone got it.

In between stages right now, starting stage 8, and the first cutscene of stage 8 has no voice acting, English or Japanese, all the way up to the first mission. My gf is in a panic thinking something is wrong with her copy, anyone know what might be going on? We checked everything like volume, settings, etc, it's all normal, and she'd just finished watching the previous stage's ending. :(

I've noticed the occasional stage with no voice acting on the PSP.

I don't know if that is the same as the PS2 or not, but I'm one of the "once the plot is over I have no motivation to play it" types.

This may seem like a totally random question, and it involves Disgaea 1. But hey, what the hell, its monday!

I'm wondering if anyone has ever actually unlocked Prier, and if so how long did it take them to do it.

Yeah, I did. It takes a while, but you just go to the typical grind spots and level up Laharl or a similarly-powered fighter. The key is to not skip on your item levels -- having a lv 100 high rank sword turns enemies into butter.

And the trick to doing 100 levels in the item world is to be able to skip every level via throwing/movement. Otherwise it takes too damn long.

It took me a long time to beat Priere and the other end-game stuff, mostly because I didn't really dick around with power leveling until I beat the game once, and spent more time just enjoying the game than purposefully abusing things. Once you can unlock her, though, it's a pretty short time to beating her. I beat her by having a few crappy sacrifices towards the starting point, so she wouldn't beat on laharl while I beat on her.

Or if you want to do it quickly, just get a half dozen level 9999 monsters.

I mean, sure, you can grind and grind and grind and grind, but that's lame.

It is pretty boring thanks to the drive to eliminate all geo cubes prior to killing the last enemy, but remember that you're getting a shitload of mana for going through it. Since mana is significantly more important in this game, it's not all bad. It's not just the character you're "in" either, but it's like doubled or something for everyone else who fights.

The dropout enemies also boost your character's stats, which is nice.

Not just that, but also realize that boosting stats like THROW RANGE, or CRITICALS, and especially MOVEMENT is really nice!

Well yeah, that's the point ;D

It does seem that the easiest way to do Class World, though, is to simply wait until you have the requisite mana, and then just fly through it focusing on dropouts and ignoring geo cubes.

there are places where you can scam your way into getting lvl9999 monsters easily. for instance in D2 (if memory serves, its been a while yknow) theres a level with level raising geosquares on it, so each turn the monster on it will double their level. if you combine all the monsters on the map and then capture that monster, and then use that captured monster to capture the same thing but with its level doubled etc etc it doesnt take long til you can capture a whole lot of level 9999 versions of that monster.

So if I play these games just for plot, moving to the next when I'm done, am I just missing amusing grinding or is there any other motivator to keep going?

These games do have the best grinding ever.

I did almost all of the bonus content in D1, and it was amusing, but not so much that I think it's a must do. Basically if your bored in an evening and just listening to music or something, it couldn't hurt to turn off animations and grind a couple hundred levels and see a new bonus map.

I personally find most of the bonus stuff to be more funny and interesting than the story in most NIS games. The kicker being though that for most games, you have to grind and powerlevel for a long time just to get to the initial bonus content. In fact, I mostly just cheat to get them. I downloaded a save for D1, and D2 I used the exploit for getting a bunch of 9999 demons. Sure, it's easier to level once you hit the 1000's and so, but it's getting there in the first place that's a real bitch. Most of the time, I just can't take it.

The best early powerlevel area in D1 if I remember correctly is the firey place w/ two areas of 100% exp. The first section is 2x2 and has 4 pumpkin heads in it (all weak to ice), and the next section is 3x2 with two pumpkin heads and a robotic knight guy...

This was a great place in D1 until you hit the other firey level with 100% exp on it and all the zombies...

(sorry I do not remember the level #'s)

Here's probably the best levels to use in D1, both 10-1 and 12-3 are meh, but are better than any of the equivalents if you can't handle or can't get to other maps. If your pre 5-3 I really wouldn't waste time leveling unless your having problems with the maps.

It's stage 5, mission 3. Details in spoilers.
The whole map has only one attackable square, everything else is invulnerable. Stack all the monsters on top of each other, throw that one on the vulnerable square (its now aprox level 112) then sit and pound on it. I got 12 levels out of the first kill. I had a thief go from 9 to 22 as a result of a team attack. The character that actually did the damage was Laharl, who got a single level from it.

If you want to milk it, since it's pretty stress free but probably slower, turn off the friendly and enemy animations in settings, and try to get triple exp passed in the assembly. Triple exp works on the first kill, so you'd probably get a guy from 9 to around 35 in one kill (random guess on exp dropoff).
You can increase the level of baddies too to make this last longer. It's pretty fun for one guy at a time.
Be aware, the level 112 ends up with over 1k health, so make sure you bring your big hitters the first time and get them up first so you can do team attacks with them with your little guys, since anybody less than 20 is probably going to do 0 damage without some of the sword or axe multihit attacks. Even my super mage who was 21 at the time only did 100 damage. Combos help wittle it down, just be careful not to have the wrong guy kill it at the end of the combo, unless you don't care who levels first. :)

    Slight correction:
There are two attackable squares. The second one is under your base panel. It's loads faster to toss the baddie into your base panel, let all the denziens get destroyed and then pound on it from there, rather than running all the way over to the other side of the map.

This will also speed up your hospital rewards by repeatedly slaughtering all of the people in your base panel :D

so update on my staff / duping time...

So after an hour or so and no dropouts, I quit last night at 2:00am. Got up this morning and tried again, this time I made a genius character (3 times to the class world)...

Well the first run had no dropouts, quit & start over...the second run had 4, but each kill got me nothing, quit and start over....the third run I killed the first dropout and happened to get a steal of the staff I wanted, so I gency'd out and saved...the fourth run I found 4 dropouts and 2 of them gave me another copy of my staff....

So now I have a total of 4 amazing orpheus staffs (lvl 155)!!!

How hard is it to get one of those axe-thingies?

I apologize from the bottom of my heart if this was discussed earlier, but does anyone know anything about the red weapons in Disgea 3? I was fighting Gold Knuckle in a 2nd Cycle game and his weapon was a flashing red fist named "Amartia"

Of course I had no plunder hands so I couldn't try and steal it... sigh

those are magichange weapons, you cant steal them. your own monsters can change into weapons though.

    o_O

I can't believe I have been playing this game so long and I didn't realize that...

I didn't even see the magichange happen. Guess thats what i get when I skip animations. Please continue on with the thread...nothing to see here.

Phew. Finally got this, D3 being my first go at the series. Totally loving it.

I'm glad my wife forces me to progress through the story when she's around, or I'd spend an excessive amount of hours grinding/leveling the various things at a terribly inefficient rate.

Has enough stayed the same that I can look through D2 gamefaqs to help me get to know all of the mechanics/systems this game uses?

What is a standard playthrough time of the whole game with minimal grinding?

If I don't respond back it's because I got sucked back in. God help us all.

I'd say a "normal" playthrough without skipping anything and without grinding too much should be about 15 hours or so. I find the game to be a bit difficult without grinding or item/character leveling at all. But that's just me....

Um, I'd suggest just going and grabbing the game book. Very helpful to someone new to the series, it explains EVERYTHING in detail from the basics to the advanced stuff.

Ahhhh, great, thanks.:) I do plenty of grinding when she's not around, so it balances itself out pretty well.

edit: I just have to say that the animation for Big Swing Slicer makes me giggle every time.

Anyone know exactly how the School Board works? I put a character in it and chose a teacher. It says it grows stats for people in the front row -- but do they also have to be in the School Board club for that to happen?

nope, the teachers increase the stats of only front row characters as they level up. So if your whole front row of chars are mages / witches, then have it set to "forces" INT growth, this way they get the most of it.

any character in the front row's growth when leveling up will be effected by the teacher.

Okay thats what I thought, but sometimes the wording isn't clear.

PS: Stealing seems majorly nerfed in D3. My Thief is Rank4 L120 and slept a mob stealing from behind with an 89hit Bandit hand the mob was only L86 and still had 1% chance to steal a legendary item from it, but 99% for the normal item.
