Okay thats what I thought, but sometimes the wording isn't clear.
PS: Stealing seems majorly nerfed in D3. My Thief is Rank4 L120 and slept a mob stealing from behind with an 89hit Bandit hand the mob was only L86 and still had 1% chance to steal a legendary item from it, but 99% for the normal item.
The formula for stealing makes it such that it's tougher to steal better items.

yea i noticed that it's MUCH more difficult to steal items, just beginning with the fact that you can't buy the "hands" anymore...

So after an hour or so and no dropouts, I quit last night at 2:00am. Got up this morning and tried again, this time I made a genius character (3 times to the class world)...
Well the first run had no dropouts, quit & start over...the second run had 4, but each kill got me nothing, quit and start over....the third run I killed the first dropout and happened to get a steal of the staff I wanted, so I gency'd out and saved...the fourth run I found 4 dropouts and 2 of them gave me another copy of my staff....
So now I have a total of 4 amazing orpheus staffs (lvl 155)!!!
How hard is it to get one of those axe-thingies?
It was simple for me...
You get one for beating all the diez gentlemen in the post-game stuff
Meh, I don't think I can do that. Isn't the last fight against a level 700 boss? My Mao is only 500. Guess it's grindin' time.
I'm really liking that the post-game stuff for Disgaea 3 is more puzzle and strategy than just "powerlevel and crush the enemy." Well, sure, you CAN powerlevel and crush everything being a few thousand levels stronger, but it's faster to "figure out" levels.
For example, House of Ordeals 3 is incredibly devious, and it took me some 30 minutes to successfully maneuver my dudes in a way to complete it without being zapped OR stuck. And the X-Dimension levels seem designed to force you to either die or simply quit from being unable to finish them.

100% agreed. I was a little frustrated since some of my characters do fall into the "over powered and ready to crush" area, but it still wasn't "easy". All of the post-game is designed around thinking of how the mechanics of this game work vs just beating the shit out of the bad guy.

My friend and I have been hard at work creating a Disgaea 3 fansite. We've got a bunch of info up now and a bunch more on the way soon. I encourage everyone to check it out!
Disgaea 2 question. Is there a way to deal with Laharl without
him blowing up the planet? I beat him when he first showed up at the end of chapter 11(?), not knowing I was supposed to lose, and was treated with the credits. I got through the rest of the game and unlocked the "Fight an Overlord" option in the senate, at the start 2nd cycle. The game ends, whether you win or lose. I still need to get a bunch of treasure maps and get through CoO, plus Etna's not in my party(since I'm on chapter 1), so I might not have the prerequisites for another outcome.

Passing the "Pick a fight with an overlord!" proposal and beating the stage ends the game.
Beating Laharl at the end of 11-7 also ends the game.
If you're looking to actually fight and recruit him though, you have to be in episode 12-13, and have 40 hours on the game clock. Pass the "I want to fight an overlord!". Win, and you'll get Flonne. Then, have Adell vote on Flonne's new proposal, "Summon Laharl!". Beat THAT stage, and the dude is yours.
Simply put, there are a couple of fights you unlock that just give you an alternate ending if you win. They're just for fun.

Houk, I just noticed something in D3 and wondered if this is what I think it is:
In the classroom, several characters sitting at skilled desks (the plain one) have scribbled on their desktops. There's two different designs as far as I can tell, one is just a demony looking head, but hte other clearly says "PA H". There's something else there and I can't quite make it out, but is that from you?
Prinny PSP's getting a US release. Sooner or later.
Is this a huge surprise?
So yeah. Got into CoO4. But I can't kill anything in 1 hit. I've been reduced to using Mao's Tier 3 Unique, rushing up to the summoning panel, resummoning him, casting it, then running out of attack range. Cheap as hell but what else can I do? I need to go level up a weapon or 4 apparently.

Er, yes. HoO4. I should probably go level up a nice sword or something.
I should also look into reincarnating Mao so I can afford to put him through the class world and inherit Big Bang.
i got a couple other games around the same time as this that keep sucking me away, but im slowly making my way through. im near the end of chapter 5 at the moment. once i hit near the end and get into the post game i figure itll drag me in like they always do. if i can stay away from SC4 anyway heh.
So far, it is good stuff. The small screen isn't an issue with the three levels of zoom and the way much of the information is displayed on the top screen.
The only real flaw I've found so far is that the framerate is poor in some situations. Killing geopanels, a lot of attack effects, and sometimes when zooming in close, the animation gets choppy. Also, you can't just put your cursor on a specialist and see what kind of specialist he is anymore, which is a really minor quibble, but still bugs me a bit when Item Worlding.

So my Mao is level 1050 or so now. Once I remembered how I abused lifting enemies to make them waste a turn, the Diez fights were easy, so I have a puppydog stick too. Cloned my level 10 sword once, Might clone it once more so I can have 2 to wield and a third to dive into.
ooo, new plan. I'm cloning and merging a Professional Innocent. I figure guaranteed critical hits is something I want in on.
what i did in the early part of ther "aftergame" was just level up a couple different items to level 20'ish or so. stack all the innocents into one item, and then dupe it. Combine all those innocents and now you have a good set of innocents for one character.

Seriously, though. I love me some Disgaea. But I used to play it at home while hanging out with my girlfriend while she'd read or play her DS or whatever. After [strike]I kicked her out[/strike] she moved out I felt like a slug sitting at home alone leveling my maijins.

Is there any sort of guideline to use about when it's worth going through the Item World to level up an item as opposed to just buying a new one? Cause by the time I clear ten floors, I can usually just buy better stuff if I haven't looted it from bonuses and stealing (at least early on, where I still am).

Is this in reference to Disgaea 3 or Disgaea DS?
Because in Disgaea 1/2/PSP/DS, you level an item if:
- It's of Legendary quality and you need it for a character, like leveling a Muscle Whatever for somebody with low HP. Legendary items get huge stat boosts if you load them up with Specialists and then level them all the way to 100, making sure to kill every Item King/General/God along the way. (For example, if you put a Dietician on an item and then level it up, it'll get permanent HP boosts that will remain even if you move the Dietician to a different object later on. This is only really useful for Legendary items, as items of lower quality don't have enough floors to make it useful.)
- You need Specialists.
- You want to get experience and you don't have Cave of Ordeals yet.
- You've already maxed out the Shop level, you've purchased the best items available from the Shop, and now you're going through them in an attempt to steal better items from the Item King/General/God. This is how you get the best items in the game.
If you're asking about Disgaea 3, I dunno. Can't help you.

Rhapsody DS has been somewhat of a let down, and mostly because of the glitches. (Save every chance you get.)
The battles are also boring compared to the original's strategy format.
The story is still as good as it ever was, but the port seems lazy on the whole.
