I am so tempted to see if I can find the Playstation one again. I never actually bought it; there was a little game rental place in my neighborhood I rented it from all the time.
Does this even work on a PS2 or will it have problems?
I don't remember having any problems with it. I might also go through it again before the DS one comes out, since it'll only take all of five hours.
And if Rhapsody DS being a success gets us the sequel that we never got, I'll buy two.
Yeah, the length is the only thing that's making me kinda wary of getting it. The cheapest I can get it for on Amazon (my preferred spot) is 25.00 and that's "game disc only, no case, in 'acceptable' condition" from someone that has a whopping 80% positive rating with just over 30 reviews.
So I'd probably be looking closer to the 35.00 ones.
Edit: Also, what the hell, we are all grown ass men getting worked up over a MUSICAL VIDEO GAME.

Because it is FUCKING AWESOME.

Yeah, okay, fuck it. It's only 35 dollars, right? I have no willpower at all.
As for the art, I don't mind it. But, I mean, the other designs could be completely ridiculous, but going on Coronet, it's fine.

I was going to post a video of the very first song from the game as the indicator of whether or not Rhapsody is purchase-worthy, as most people know right then whether it's the greatest game ever, or something to never touch again, but youtube fails.
Yeah. I'm actually pretty shocked it's not on YouTube. Just the Marjoly song (which is awesome and in an excellent quality video) and a couple others (which are awesome and in a poor quality video)
See, I picked this up just for the heck of it, thinking "A Musical Adventure" meant there would be a music puzzle and maybe I use a trombone as a weapon.
But then I found out it was an actual musical. My mind was blown.
Well there's definitely no chance of us re-recording anything, it's not in the budget and there's nowhere to fit it into the schedule without massive delays. I dunno if it's a licensing issue or what, didn't have time to check into it today (which is when I found out). But rest assured I will do everything in my meager power to get the jazztastic English track back in.

If it helps tell them that there are definitely people that 100% for sure will not buy it without an English track.
Me, for instance. And I think someone else said so, too.

It is just, as far as I can remember
The story was not very good, the dungeons were not very good, and the combat was not very good. Also it's really short.
The songs were like the only "good" thing.
You had to go around collecting the elemental trinkets or whatever to save that guy, and the bad guys are also after them for the same reason. I finally get them all and all they do is teleport me to the bad guys' base.
Then I'm saving my boyfriend when suddenly it goes all ANCIENT MAGICAL RACE AND THEIR DOOM TECHNOLOGY on me.
But yeah it's cute. The combat - I think I probably used like one spell to take me through the entire game. My recollection of all of this may be completely wrong, however.
When I recommend this game to people, it is not because of the story or the fighting - it is hands down the "IT'S A FUCKING MUSICAL" aspect.
I made a shitty rip of the intro musical a few years ago, bask in the glory that are the english lyrics.
Umm, I already posted the youtube of the intro musical scene. And you can find better rips on the net. But thanks anyways.
I think I've figured out what's so wrong with the new art. They make her look way more like a kid rather than a late teen. The head is disproportionately big.

Excellent.
Musicals are among the few things that never work as well subtitled.
So. If I was going to buy a PS3 for Disgaea -- and I will buy a PS3 for Disgaea -- what type of system should I be looking for if I want decent PS2 compatability?
I'm probably the worst singer you have ever and will ever meet, and that's almost certainly not hyperbole.
Oh, and I talked to my people. Apparently the big reason they've left it in Japanese is that they've actually added a couple new songs to the Japanese version. So rather than having all of them except a couple in English, they elected to leave them all in Japanese. So I dunno if there's any chance of getting the English in at this point

It's like we've gone from LONG LEGS ARE LONG to HUGE HEAD IS HUEG in the past ten years.

That is a terrible decision.
Why not just leave it in with an option to switch? That's how the PS1 version handled it.
I'll still get the game, of course. I have the Japanese tracks on a CD in my car, and it's still good stuff.
Hey look at me I'm a videogame reviewer: "The ps1 version had english and the new version doesn't have english. Maybe they should just let Atlus do this kind of thing from now on. -2/10 (overall score, not an average)"
Weren't you going on earlier about how making a ds game was such a huge risk because of the cost of the carts and your boss didn't like doing it? If you guys are really struggling for cash, you could always cancel Nao & Hiro's blog. Or make them do the singing.
You should probably tilt your head to the side when asking them. Also you have to do it in a cute and charming way, not in an aggressive way. If the game doesn't have english singing I'm just going to have to assume you didn't tilt your head enough.
...Man I just read the siliconera interview with Mr. Akenaga. He goes on about becoming more conscious of quality and Rhapsody being the testing ground Marl Kingdom title. It's really going to be such a shame.

Because there's not enough room on the cart for both audio tracks. I should try to get them to release the English soundtrack as a pre-order bonus and then people can just mute their DS at the proper time and listen along with the English version.

I think they're just talking about the fact that Cornet can like, use her horn to do spells or whatever. Hell I dunno.
I figured, but I hoped beyond hope. Really should have gone with pancake based.

Obviously Atlus feel the same way.
And the new art is different, but it seems to keep the game's spirit.
Or something.
