I wish I could feel excited about this. I find the idea very meh. Marvel vs Capcom was awesome because both sides had awesome characters. This time, it's Speed Racer. And that guy from G-Force. And some other people.
At least Viewtiful Joe is in it...

Joe is worth the price of the game alone. This implies a clone using Sylvia, Alastor, or Captian Blue.
Gatchaman not the crappy dubbed versions are decent too.
I know a few of the other guys but only by reputation.

eh, this seems unlikely. the game's gonna have a difficult time selling as it is considering the obscurity of tatsunoko in the US. though porting wouldn't be all too difficult, the game (arcade and console version alike) are built off of wii hardware. i don't know if it'd be worth capcom's money to port it elsewhere.
that said, this also dampens my hopes for the chance of online play or additional characters. this game is not going to make a lot of money, and capcom probably already knows that. having them put in any extra effort apart from the legal headache of bringing it over in the first place would be surprising.
This isn't directed any particular person, but I'd just like to mention how much it bugs me when people complain about not knowing any of the Tatsunoko characters.
I see so many gamers decrying the lack of originality and innovation in the game industry today, but as soon as a fighter shows up that isn't chock-full of characters they grew up, it's completely unappealing. What's the difference exactly between an all-new character, and a character that's new to you? These people do realize that not all original, innovative games are going to have Wolverine in them, right?

Because the whole point of the "Capcom vs." games is throwing well-known and beloved characters into the new context of a fighting game. This series is one of the few places where we absolutely don't want original characters because the whole hook of the games is that it's all of our favorites fighting to the death.
Also, I know essentially nothing about this game, but "original and innovative" generally aren't terms that are applicable to 2-D fighters.

They should just hand it off to the guys that did HDR and say "Make it work online" then I'd pick this up day one. Really they could delay it all they want to and it would probably improve the sales, were about to have way too many fighters on the market.
Oh and if they're going to rename it they should just call it "Capcom beats the shit outa G-force and some Japanese robot guys" I think that would sell better to the American market.

Oh and no Friend Codes.
The real name should be " Tekkaman and Casshern beat some chumps." That is all.

This is actually the mindset I went into when I imported Tatsunoko vs Capcom. My problem is that the Tatsunoko characters, even as brand new characters, just aren't very interesting. They all look too similar.
That said, they play just fine. It's just hard to get excited about character X in a white spandex suit vs character Y in a white spandex suit.
For those that have tried it, how does the game play? Isn't there just like three buttons?
The graphics look great, but I don't know, from the description it sounds like it could be too simple. Or am I way off?
there are 3 attack buttons - weak, medium, and hard, and a partner button. The partner button by itself calls your partner out for an assist, and pressing back and the partner button swaps your character.
I originally thought the game was simplistic and not very fun, mainly because I was knee deep in SFIV at the time, but it grew on me. I still prefer MvC and MvC2 to TvC, but TvC isn't a slouch. I'd say it's the 4th best game in the vs series, behind only Capcom vs SNK 2, Marvel vs Capcom, and Marvel vs Capcom 2.
Don't forget, Marvel vs Capcom 2 only had 4 attack buttons. So 3 attack buttons isn't a huge downgrade or anything.
i have fond memories of MvC...but when I went back to it recently at an arcade, it wasn't nearly as enjoyable as I remembered. MvC2 is still a blast and I play it whenever I get the chance, but the mechanics in MvC did not age all too well, especially compared to MvC2.
Oh, and I guess it's worth mentioning the 2 big game defining techniques in the game. In Street Fighter IV, the defining feature was largely the Focus attack. In TvC, the 2 big techniques are Baroque attacks, and Mega-Crashes.
Mega Crashes are activated by pressing all 4 buttons at once during an attack combination. It functions ALMOST like a combo breaker from Killer Instinct. When it's done outside of a combo, it's called an advance guard. It pushes your opponent back and gives you a 1 frame advantage in recovery time, which is why it can be used as a combo breaker.
Baroque Attacks work sorta like focus attacks. You activate it by pressing an attack button and the partner button at the same time. it causes you to cancel out of your current move, which can be used to build up custom combos.
Also, TvC builds upon arial raves from the previous vs games. You can now switch between partners multiple times during an arial rave to build a giant arial rave combo. Speaking of your partner, you can also call them out while blocking to safely counter attack.
EDIT: Oh yeah, and baroque attacks spend your red-life. Red-life, as you remember, is the life you can recover by resting your character (i.e. tagging them out). Using a baroque attack spends some of this red-life, but it massively powers up your next move. You can baroque attack to create life-bar draining combos.
Also, mega-crashes spend YELLOW-LIFE (i.e. your REAL life bar) and 2 super guages. So... they're pretty devistating to use, but their risk is high.

That actually sounds kinda cool. For some reason I was under the impression that the game had just three buttons. Two attack and a partner one.
Well, I've always thought the Vs games (outside of Capcom vs SNK) were pretty sloppy compared to the high precision of, say, Street Fighter III 3rd Strike. In all actuality, you can play the game pretty easily just by button mashing. Outside of baroque attacks, you won't really see any advantage to the other techniques unless you're playing a real person who also knows about them.
But they're really fun to play with if you're playing against someone who DOES know how to use them. Which is why I hope so hard that capcom adds online play.
However, if you're looking for a more technical fighter ala SFIII or even SFIV, you're probably gonna be a little disappointed.
I should also clarify that I meant baroque attacks work sort of like FADCing, not focus attacks on their own. You can use them to cancel into really large combos.
For those that have tried it, how does the game play? Isn't there just like three buttons?

A lot of recent fighting games have been taking the 4 button route really, so TvC is just following the trend. In terms of system fundamentals, it's somewhat like Marvel meets Guilty Gear.
So what's next on the "Versus Capcom" front? Do they have anything planned?
I'd want to ask what people want the next one to be, in an ideal universe, but I worry that would make this too much into a polling thread. Plus, my own answer's a bit too unrealistically fanboyish.

You guys get the best dubs. I remember in DBZ you guys were way ahead of us in the states. Same with fist of the north star, I think.
Spanish dubs are the only way I'll watch some anime. DBZ, Saint Seiya, Ronin Warriors, Captain Tsubasa...ah, the golden age.
It would be awesome if Capcom ends up adding online to this. I wonder what the chances of that happening will be.
That said, Ken the Eagle is awesome. I love playing as him. Great character, even if I have no clue who the hell he is.

Also, this made me laugh way harder than it should have(from GAF)
After all the effort it took me to import it.
Oh well, at least it kinda looks cool to see it in Japanese.

Yep...and it'd sell even worse than it probably is going to sell.
Unless the MvC2 crowd decides to pick it up...but they'll probably just keep playing MvC2.
