The Guiding Principles and New Rules document is now in effect.
I've had my RCA 32" for about 6 months now. Recently the screen has gotten a couple smudges on it.
I was wondering what would be the best choice for safely and effectively cleaning the screen, without damages or streaks. ???
A lot of people bitch about using Windex on HDTV etc. screens, saying that it "etches" or "mattes" the screen.
These people are retarded.
At work, we have nearly 200 HDTVs in service now of various makes and models. We use Windex to clean them. The oldest that I can think of off the top of my head is about five years old now, some sort of Sony. I certainly don't notice any 'damage' to the screen and it should have been cleaned about 260 times now (once a week).
Personally, I use LCD-safe monitor wipes. They come in a canister akin to what you see for baby wipes and seem to work pretty well for me. You can find them at computer stores or maybe Walmart. I've been using them on my notebook and LCD computer monitor for over a year now with no problems.
I think Windex isn't so great for the plastic screens, especially the "squishy" ones.
I guess I should include that we also service a couple thousand computers with LCD screens and tons of other A/V equipment. I just haven't seen this issue rear its ugly head in practice.
Well most isopropyl your going to have around the house is already diluted like crazy. Unless you ask for the 99% stuff you're going to get I think 30%

Yeah, definitely keep an eye out when shopping. Most places put the 30-50% stuff out front but have the good stuff around in a more inopportune place (top shelf, bottom shelf). I make it a habit to have the good stuff.

Otherwise, I'm pretty sure you're NOT supposed to use alcohol, but other than that...
Otherwise I have a little cleaning cloth in my DS case (like for cleaning reading glasses) that I could use.
Just... what kind of product would be safe? Rather than just cleaning dry...

* Isopropanol
* 2-Butoxyethanol
* Ethylene glycol n-hexyl ether
* Water
It is probably fine for plastics.
Though personally I'd just do 50/50 water and isopropyl on a damp microfiber cloth (like a lens cleaning cloth).
