Here's the situation: I've got a full time job that I will be starting at on June 23rd. The employer is located right next to Tyson's Corner mall. After I graduate from Ohio State at the start of June, I will be moving out to that area. My girlfriend has an internship in D.C. this summer, during which she'll be living with her parents at home, but starting in the fall she'll be going to grad school at the George Mason campus in Arlington and moving in with me. So, I'm looking for an apartment in that area.
Details: I'd like to find a place between Tyson's Corner and Arlington, preferably as close to Arlington (or in Arlington) as possible, as my commute would be (from what I've heard) against traffic. Plus, the gf will most likely want to be a short drive or metro ride away from campus. I'm looking for at least 1 BR - trying not to dip down into studio size, because although I don't mind a small apartment, two people in less than 500sq ft. would be a little cramped. My income will be $58K and so I'm looking at the <$1300 range, although if you guys think I could afford more with that salary, lemme know. Also, a minor caveat: we have to live in VA, because that gets her in-state tuition at GMU. So D.C. and Maryland are no-go unfortunately.
We did have what looked to be a great deal lined up, renting an apartment attached to this old lady's house for cheap, but it turns out her twin brother has been living in it off and on and he's kind of batshit insane, so I don't really want to get involved in that. I've been scouring Craigslist and rent.com and the like, and will continue to do so, but I'm wondering if anyone has suggestions on good apartments to look at, location ideas, and any general advice I should have for moving to this area.
tl;dr: Looking for 1BR+ around Arlington VA, <$TEXAS, help!
