Conan install size 30 Gig?

firegolemfiregolem Registered User regular
edited May 2008 in Games and Technology
I come here cause the Conan website doesnt let you do jack shit unless you give them your credit card details first.

Anybody local genius know-

I have 10 gigs free on my 40G hd, when I try install it says I need 30G for the install process.

ALthough the content on the disk is only 6G. IM wondering if i need to try and delete everything off my pc to try free up 30G (probably impossible given the size of xp and Office).

Id hate to delete everything and find out it still didnt work.

Sidenote: anyone know what the full install size of Conan is (patched etc)? Is it the full 30G?

Many thanks

I got nothing to sitewhore. Go here instead: www.nmcf.co.za

It's 30 gigs without patches. There's not much you can do.

    Damn. Thanks for the reply.

(I had planned to seal myself into the cave for the weekend, now I must go into human contact for a new hard drive!)

    Tx

Wait, did you build your computer in 1947? 40 GB is.... I mean... with that size hard drive, I'm shocked your machine meets the minimum requirements. Not to be a dick, but... wow.

Way to miss the point, everyone.

Sure, 30GB is tits, that's not the issue. The issue is that as far as games go, that is unreasonably massive.

If they've got 30gb worth of stuff to show you, I don't see why it's unreasonably massive.

It just seems purely asinine to me to expect that kind of dedication. A 30GB install. For fuck's sake, I've just never seen a piece of software that takes up that much space.

30GB for Conan is acceptable where 25GB for Vanguard wasn't, apparently. Not that it actually made the game good.

You're dedicating a sizeable chunk of your storage to one game. Not to mention the time it's going to take to install (and patch) the fucker. I just don't think any game is worth taking up that kind of space.

damn it man, when you can have close to a fricken TERABYTE of storage for mere peanuts, there's no reason for the developers to not make their games 30gb small.

I'm assuming the majority of that is uncompressed textures and audio, which is generally the thing that makes the gamers go "woah look at the shiny graphics and audio!!!"

sure, 30gb is kinda xbox hueg. But once again, for $100 you can have 500gb of storage.

hell that's only the size of one HD movie.

edit: also, patching really wouldn't take all that much time assuming that the (assumed) uncompressed textures/audio need not be changed.

Kinda wonder what they're going to do on the 360. I know Microsoft has some really weird limitations on how much HDD space you can use for an MMO.

that's because it is a 26gig install and not 30. also, if installing 26gigs is offending you, don't fucking worry about it because you aren't going to install it anyways.

    Here's some things to consider.

First, if you're too ignorant to find the system requirements without buying the game, that's not really their fault:
    http://community.ageofconan.com/wsp/conan/frontend.cgi?func=publish.show&template=content&func_id=2338&table=CONTENT

Second, if your computer has a 40GB HDD. Wtf? And your computer is probably not going to be able to play the game.

Third, to help you figure out the answer to such easy questions in future:
    http://www.systemrequirementslab.com/referrer/srtest

It'll do it automatically, so your tiny brain doesn't have to surrender financial information.

    Damn, that's hostile.

Anyhow, I'm saddened that my computer now lacks the cojones to even begin to run this game. It was hanging in there for a while, I guess it's officially becoming obsolete.

I remember back when 300 mb HDDs were introduced to the market.

25 mb for an install? This is outrageous!

Before you know it, 25 tb won't be that insane. And by that time, we'll have 500 tb HDDs available.

30 gb isn't that big anymore. I have 2.9 tb on this PC, and it's no powerhouse.

Like someone said, 500 gb HDDs go for less than $100 now. You can pick up a 40 gb HDD for around $30 - less than $1 per gigabyte.

Definitely just shell out the $100 for 500 gigs. It'll do ya good.

I am also amused at how some people act like their baby is being attacked or something. I say the complaint is semi-valid. Even if it wasn't--just chill, brahs.

I think if you look at the $100 for a 500GB HD investment as the fee for all the porn you leech of Usenet and Bittorrent its a lot easier to accept.

This is for the 7 people who had a problem accepting it at face value, that is.

It's a cycle I've seen many times before. It's a slow cycle, but one that's definitely there.

I remember outrage on BBS' when games started taking several megabytes to install. Then 100 mb... oh there was a shit storm. But by this point, 1 gb HDDs had started to appear.

Then there was the 1 gb install... also a shitstorm. Now we're at 30 gb installs. There WILL be 100 gb installs, there WILL be 1 tb installs. But only when the price of space becomes affordable. It's just the way technology progresses.
