Penalties for using false license plate?

I'm curious. I've gotten a spur up my ass to acquire and run a US government license plate on my car.

What would the penalty be if I had it on my car? (California)

Probably a ticket and a fine of a couple hundred bucks.

that "acquire" aka steal would probably also snag you a theft of government property charge as well.

I assume he knows someplace that literally produces fakes.

And thats as far down that road as we're going.

FALSE. They're for sale if you look around. That and I know someone within a local airbase who can supply one (or three)

However it is still illegal, and that's all that really matters.

Seriously, if you're asking if you should or shouldn't (if it is worth it for the penalties) the answer is you shouldn't, as it is illegal. And you shouldn't be asking advice about illegal activities on here, either.

I don't know exactly, but my guess? Pretty bad. I'd think that's not really something that's likely to get by with a slap on the wrist, considering that a) it's a fake license plate, which in itself lends itself to all sorts of crimes, and b) It would probably count as impersonating a government official.

Seriously. Bad idea. Don't do it.

Yeah, that's the focus I was trying to get at. Would it simply be "false license plate" or "impersonation of a government official."

Oh well, I'll keep running without a plate at all for now. I just thought it would look reallllllly cool.

nobody cares what plate you've got, it's not cool

also probably depending on how hard the prosecution wants to push it, you might be in for a world of shit

short answer: Don't be stupid, don't do it, you'll get in a lot of trouble

Especially in these days of terrorism... not a smart idea.

This is by far the stupidest idea you've had since the last time you posted in here.
