Spots / Rash, with no other symptoms

Within the past week, I began to notice a sort of speckling on my torso -- specifically, on my chest area. It looked, more or less, like an outbreak of acne / pimples and the like, and I treated it accordingly, washing it thoroughly while showering (as I do daily).

By the weekend, however, it hadn't gone away, but in fact had spread -- all over my chest and stomach, along my sides, and just recently, onto my back and upper arms. My girlfriend suggested it was a rash rather than acne, which is the idea I'm kind of running with now.

Now, I haven't looked into medical diagnosis yet, as I've exhibited no other symptoms. Though my body is covered with red/pink marks, I feel basically healthy -- no anomalous headaches, mucus, nausea, or anything.

Rest assured, if this persists, I'll seek medical help no later than the end of the week (scheduling an appointment nigh-immediately). In the interim, I was curious to see if anyone else has encountered a similar ailment, and how they were rid of it.

Have you changed your soap recently, started on some new lotion or anything? Started a new medication?

Nothing that could be considered recent, and I'm not on any medication. I've considered a possible allergic reaction to food, and the increased temperature living here in Seattle, and my weight (which is slightly high, but not much), but nothing in my life has changed recently. While the weight and heat might not be doing me any favors, I doubt they're the cause.

Nope and nope. It has been a little while since I've run some laundry (a holdover from college days), but again, nothing completely out of the ordinary.

Chicken pox starts out as a rash on the torso, then spreads to the arms/legs. But, you'd also hurt - joint ache like flu, and have a high temp, so probably not.
Most people think you can only get it once, not true, I've had chicken pox 3 times now, get yourself checked out by a medic.

You haven't been sick recently have you (like before the rash showed up)? I've had flu-like episodes that were followed up with a similar rash when the flu symptoms started going away. That rash for me was also almost the same as a rash I had as an allergic reaction to some medication. I wouldn't guess just a food reaction though.

If there's definitely no simple soap/detergent/whatever change you've had recently, you should definitely get checked out as there are just too many things that can cause a rash like that.

Yep... people usually look at me like I'm crazy when I tell them I had chicken pox twice :)

You mean the Herpes virus simplex whatever it is that makes chickenpox. :D
Anyways, go to a doctor. Rashes aren't ever good, especially if they don't go away.

See a dermatologist, it might by eczema. I've had it for years, and most soaps and washing just further dry the skin, which is what causes eczema.
Try some basic moisturizers, and refrain for overly washing the area or using too hot shower water. Also DON'T SCRATCH IT. It spreads this way aswell (assuming it's eczema, but I don't think scratching helps with many rashes anyway).

I also have eczema. I actually get it in my ears, so it's a real bitch. So, assuming for a moment that you do have eczema:

There are water-based creams that you can get that will help with outbreaks, but you are going to want to find some kind of moisturizer to use daily just as a general preventative measure. I mentioned in the ear thread that olive oil is good, so you may want to try it, but it's expensive and it sounds like your rash is rather large, so...

You may want to go to your doctor before you try anything home-remedy, though. You could have some kind of infection or allergy - it's impossible to tell over the 'net - and there are, obviously, a whole bunch of different treatments and remedies that work depending on what it is. Your doctor should sort you out.

Or, on rare occasions you can get Ramsay Hunt Syndrome type II. My mom got that and it scared the bajeesus out of me.

On topic, as most people have said, rashes are hard for anyone but a doctor to diagnose, so go to a doctor.

    Could be a staph infection.
Go get that looked at, especially if it looks like a bunch of pustules.
That's generally a good sign of something not good going on.

sounds like an allergic reaction to a skin care product. go to the store, buy hypoallergenic scent free soaps and shampoo/conditioner, do not use any scented lotion you have, stop all your usual skincare products, and use only the hypoallergenic stuff for a week, see how it goes.

also: any change in your diet recently? maybe you started eating grapefruit or something that you do not normally have (or have less of?)

could also be the material of a new shirt or bedsheets.

also, sometimes things like tis can be triggered, so you'll have no problem for all your life, then whoops, sudden mild allergic reaction to something you consider normal. happened to me with the last soap i was using, had that odd rash on my forearms, i changed soaps to a non scented variety and it went away after a few days

    Here's a quick idea:
Get some cortisone cream from the drugstore and try it on a tiny patch.
If your pink marks disappear taa daa you have an allergy and should do what Bel said
Might as well do it anyways since it doesn't cause any harm.

NOTE: If you have pustules go to the doctor and DO NOT use cortisone as it can thin the skin and suppress the immune system.
The dose in a cortisone cream won't hurt your health overall, but on an infected area it will not do you any favours.

Haha I had something similar last fall. It turned out to be an allergy too.

Do you know how long it's been since I've had cake?

No other symptoms as in it doesn't itch, right?

Do they protrude from your skin like acne, or does it seem more like a rash marking? Are they oval shaped?

There is a condition common to youth and young adults that causes small oval shaped rashes all over the body with no other symptoms, but I'll be damned if I can remember what it's called. As long as you have no other symptoms, I'm betting it's this.

The rash won't manifest in areas that see a lot of light exposure, i.e. your face, neck, forearms, hands, and tanning could help to clear it up but isn't really suggested. With any luck it'll be gone within a few weeks, though sometimes you'll have another "breakout" before it's gone for good. It's not infectious, though some doctors suggest you could be a risk to pregnant women.

It's a very common thing, and it's frustrating that I can't remember what it's called...

Anyway, I'd see a doctor for a proper diagnosis.

All of the sudden i have a pimple like rash on my neck, back, chest and its spreading onto my arms and legs! I have sprayed the house with lysol disinfectint to kill germs. Thats it. Should i see a doctor?
