Case Fan/ CPU Fan question

This may work better in the tech forum, but I thought I'd ask here first.

So I ordered a new computer and all the fixens. My case has a fan where most diagrams for the Cpu just show a vent. The fan on the side of the case is set to pull air in from outside (toward the CPU). Correct me if I'm wrong but aren't the fans on the cpu/heatsink set to pull air away?

So if I'm right does this mean that I should either remove that fan and put it somewhere else, or adjust it to pull air away from the Cpu?

it, uh, depends. stock heatsinks usually draw air from above the motherboard and blow it "downwards" towards the CPU and the motherboard. there are aftermarket heatsinks now though that have the fan blowing parallel to the motherboard.

so if i'm understanding you correctly, your case has a vent and a fan on the side panel, and this fan is blowing directly onto the CPU/heatsink/fan. if your heatsink/fan is a stock-type kind that blows air down onto the CPU and motherboard, you don't want your side vent fan sucking air away from the heatsink fan.

it might help if you can take pics of your setup, or at least tell us what kind of heatsink, CPU, and case you have.
