I am thinking about getting Sprint under the Sero plan which is 30 bucks a month for a ton of shit. I just wanted to know if it is worth it even with the low price. I have until the end of may to make up my mind and find a spring Sero code.
One thing that will affect you is coverage area. Talk to people in your area that have them and find out how well the service is. For example in my area everyone with sprint/nextel complain they receive a large amount of static whenever making or receiving calls. Which is why I went with verizon. Like most things though this will change from area to area, so word of mouth is your best bet.
My friend says it is not to bad around here. But it looks like I ran into another problem. I was going to get a Sero code from my friend but since he works for Radioshack through sprint he does not have a sprint email so now I don't know how to get a Sero code.
I have Sprint, and have had them for about 5 years. The only problem I have now is that when I moved from FL to TN the coverage here isn't as good. So I'm gonna switch to Verizon when the contract runs up since their coverage is better and since all my friends have verizon, it may end up saving me money.
Sprint isnt too bad but I do believe it is the worst of the major 4
Yeah I know it is
This is what I get for 30 bucks a month but I would be in a contract for 2 years...
- Unlimited Sprint Vision or Power Vision (Vision for Vision phones, Power Vision for Power Vision phones)
- Unlimited Mobile to Mobile
- Unlimited Sprint Picture Mail
- Unlimited Roaming
- Unlimited Text (Per SERO website: "Unlimited text messaging included with all plans through 2/16/08")
- Unlimited Nights & Weekends (Starts @ 9PM if signed up before 12/03/06, 7 PM for those after)(6 PM nights & weekends for $10/month).
- Nationwide Long Distance- Crystal Clear Calls
- Voice Mail
- Caller ID
- Call Waiting
- Numeric Paging
- Three-Way Calling
I like Sprint better than Cingular/ATT, for what it's worth. Also, I'm the only one that gets reception in my apartment (the other two that don't have ATT and Verizon). Of course, that is pretty locational.
I have the SERO plan. I'm in Seattle. I have zero complaints. I love it.
Every time one of those kiosk guys tries to sell me one of their phones, they ask me what my plan is like, so I tell them just to watch their face fall.

lol.. What phone do you have and do you know if I get unlimted modem use out of a phone modem with Sero? As in I plug my phone into my computer and dial up.

I have a Mogul, which is a re-branded HTC. I have no idea whether or not you get unlimited modem use, but I don't see why you wouldn't. They give you unlimited data, and I don't know how they'd tell the difference.
Every month I still get a bill from Sprint
Every month I contact thier customer service department and explain they are billing me for a dead line.
Every month I get a new idiot at thier customer service department who has no idea what to do.
Every month they roll back the charges and ASSURE me that this is the last bill I recieve.
Every month when this happens I take a picture of my ballsack and email it to Sprint's corporate office.

You'll want to double check on that because people have gotten huge bills using a cell phone as a modem, with unlimited data plans, getting per KB charges.

Yeah that is what I hear but I don't see anything in there about sprints policy on it.
SERO is the best bang for your buck from any carrier hands down. I'm using it right now, am 100% satisfied with service, and the Mogul right now gets Rev A data which is the highest possible phone data speed at the moment. Don't get a Moto Q, they're cheap pieces of shit with no battery life to speak of. I deal with phones all day so if you tell me what features you're looking for in particular I can probably recommend one to you.
The deal with Sprint is that the coverage is great (at least in Southern California where I'm at) for voice and data, and this SERO pricing simply cannot be beat, but customer service, as has been limed, is godawful. You basically set up your account, monitor it for a month or two online to make sure everything's hunky dory, and if there are any problems trudge through their support and get it taken care of. After that though, you're home free.
Well the thing is I am looking for a cheap phone that can make good use of the unlimited data services. I would get a blackberry but I don't want to pay 15 bucks more on top of 30 bucks to use whatever special blackberry data services I get. What about the new Palm Centrio phone?
I'm using a Mogul with Sprint SERO in the Austin area and I am 100% happy with them. I've had nothing but good experiences with them, and frequently use my phone as a modem and have never been charged.
If you look around you'll find forums (pdaphonehome is one of them IIRC) that have tweaking tips/tricks. There was a tweak that deleted a registry key that was linked to providing Sprint with the info that you were tethering, thereby disabling it. I disabled it and use it frequently (at least once a week) and have not been charged extra.

Huh. Well what does "unlimited data" really mean then?

Its unlimited from the phone, but when you hook the phone up to the computer via USB cable and use it as a modem you receive charges.
I have the Motorola Q on Sprint and its only a meh. After about a year of use now the damn Windows Mobile OS is crapping on me. Sometimes I have to reboot the phone and remove the battery to get proper readings on battery and signal bars. It locks up on me at least once a week, especially right when I try to pick up an incoming call. And the battery life has been horrible since day 1. Mine has to be charged every 12 hours or so. There are larger batteries available out there, but then it makes the Q look pregnant.
Thats just the phone. Sprint has been utter shit since January. They finally merged the old Nextel and Sprint billing systems, and its the biggest pile of garbage ever. Before the merge it took them 3 month to get my wife's phone number (Sprint since PCS) onto my account (old Nextel) for a family plan. THREE MONTHS.
Then when they finally got all the phones right they gave each one its own $150.00 family plan. DUH. The month after that the new billing system went in and they charged me for a month I already paid for. The old billing system billed for service a month in advance, apparently the new one does not. When I tried to explain to no less than SIX different reps they were billing me for the same calendar service period, they all thought I didn't understand what prorating was.
I'm a tit-hair away from dropping Sprint, just like the 900,000 other customers they lost last year, and going over to Verizon.

I've had a Q for over a year and I love it. I use it constantly. I play NES, SNES, and GBA on it, as well as having an e-book reader on it, with no problems.
Sero is unlimited text and data with 500 anytime min. Unlimited night and weekends... The 99 dollar plan is unlimited everything. Includes black berry plan, unlimited mins all the time.. Everything sprint has.
It may be "open to the public" through okie-doke measures, but its not like they're advertising it as an available option.
I agree, things are tanking for Sprint. They can't tell their ass from a hole in the ground. And the recent Ensemble/P2G migration isn't helping their customer satisfaction rating either. The only people that are effectively trained on both billing systems, and have access to both, are in customer retention. That should tell you something, the people who can actually fix issues are only the last resort.

Well, I really hope the phone comes with the right plan and everything. I have been hearing people getting Sero and then getting it dropped off once the phone is activated.
With alltel I had 800 anytime min, unlimited night and weekends, Call home Free for 39.99. Only problem was no text or data. They charged 5 bucks for text/picture. Like 7 for web access. In the end with just text the plan ended up being about 50.

their customer service is the worst in the industry though
I used to work for them. I know what goes on.

Thanks! 40 bucks what a rip

Makes sense considering the abuse of the program, and their new $99 completely unlimited plan.

Things are so bad for Sprint they open the Sero plan up to the public.
How many peak minutes are on the SERO?
I'm just trying to understand, if Sprint has an unlimited plan for $99, and SERO was open to the public for $30.....who would ever get the unlimited?
