Just do a fucking re-make of DX1 with new graphics technology. I would pay 40 bucks for that. The exact same game only with completely revamped graphics.
There is a High Definition Texture Pack available, though on my game it scrambles the sound, it has a lot of noise :? I didn't find anyone with the same problem on their forums so yeah..
How much of the game does this change? I thought it only did a few minor things.

The whole mod isn't finished yet, though it's creeping closer all the time and will get there some day.

Ok.. I have the game through steam and installed it into the director it's located in in steam, now do I just launch it normally through steam and it'll work? I don't see any readme so that's why i'm asking. The shortcut doesn't seem to do anything if that's what i'm supposed to use.
Then, after that, sadly, the developers will come up with a "Re-imagining" of the franchise - Like another Eidos Franchise that had sub-standard sequals so they just passed off the old game with a new coat of paint.

- Gratuitous swearing just for the sake of it.

Wait, what? Free games? All I have to do is download some thing?
Wtf. Is it safe? Spyware free and all that. I mean I assume so, since it looks like a legitimate business, but this just seems too good to be true.
You have never heard of Gametap? It's a pretty major service out there and it is even owned by Time Warner. I think it's one of the biggest PC gaming services next to Steam.
The free selection is pretty lame but there are a few standouts for us folks too cheap to pay the monthly service fee.

It will create a shortcut called HDTP Release 1 or something like that, use that one. To see if it's using the HD textures just start a new game and look at the trash bin, that was what I did :P if it doesn't work just check their forums but last time I checked, yesterday , it worked flawlessly on Steam
I also noticed that the regular edition is already on Gametap as a gold game, but that the one that's going to be free is the Game of the Year edition. Does anyone know what the differences are?
The GotY edition is pre-patched out of the box. And has Multiplayer. I don't know if it's really that different from the original edition, which is probably also already patched if you get it through Gametap.

You say that like the old game with a lick of paint was a bad game. It wasn't. It's a very good game. Heck, Deus Ex Anniversary would be brilliant if it were done the same way.
Wait...so is this a joke? According to this post on the HDTP forums, HDTP is completed and they haven't released it yet because one of the team members isn't on the internet? WTF?

Try making a shortcut to steam.exe and adding this to the target:
The game is up on Gametap free and I'm currently downloading it, but it is going very slowly. I'm pretty sure it went a lot quicker when I downloaded Metal Slug 2 from Gametap yesterday, so I guess Gametap's servers are being hammered.
EDIT: Funny. Suddenly my download speed bot about 5 times faster.
I have played this for a short while and I have some performance issues. One moment the game is running smoothly and the next it's going at about half speed. I have no idea what could be causing and I haven't noticed anything like it in other games.
Ah, Deux Ex, such a great game. My favorite part is it makes you think, both in how to accomplish your objectives and trying to figure out what's going on and whether you need to reconsider your goals. I mean, sure,
it doesn't take a genius to figure out UNATCO is evil, but you're left wondering about your new employees later on as well. I still remember when I was heading to the Cathedral and Icarus told me "You are bringing the illuminati closer to regaining power. Examine what you are doing." and I thought - Hey, the evil AI that's trying to kill me makes a good point.
Admitedly, your choices don't make a big difference plot wise until near the end, to avoid a giant plot tree the development team never could have handled, but they still make you think about those choices, rather than just blasting hordes of aliens without remorse.
So I was digging around the HDTP (High Def Texture Project) forums and found some people raving about this custom OpenGL driver.
OpenGL you say? 1999 this is not!
Bear with me. So apparently this dude has made a custom OpenGL driver that actually runs at a good speed, unlike the default one that comes with Deus Ex. It also allows a lot of custom rendering options and improvements that are beyond my understanding. What I do understand is that it makes the game look pretty damn good, noticeably better than with the Direct3D renderer you're probably using now.
You just back up the OpenGLdrv.dll in your Deus Ex/System directory and replace the original with this one. Then if you're starting up the game for the first time pick the custom OpenGL renderer, or go into the video options from the main menu and choose "Change Rendering Device".
Check out the website for the additional settings you can add to your DeusEx.ini file. If you're lazy, you can try out mine, they'll probably work for you. As far as I can tell, this basically maxes the settings.

Seems a good a place as any to post a question about Deus Ex/Game Tap.
Ive downloaded a few games now and on a couple (namely Deus Ex and Legacy of Kain 2) the controls seem to get "suck" say Im running forward it will continue to run me forward for a good 2seconds after I let go. As you can imagine while trying to sneak about this is not cool.
Has anyone had a similar experience? or know how I can fix it?
Thanks in advance 8-)

If you could post some screenshots that would be great
Was having fun until I dies on the ground floor of Statue of Liberty, then relized I hadn't saved manually and had to start the whole game over . man was Auto-saving a big leap in gaming (for me at least)
If you could post some screenshots that would be great
It's pretty subtle, I don't think screenshots are gonna wow you. It's mostly the lighting that's affected, looks better in certain parts of the game. Remember, the Unreal engine was designed for Glide, not Direct X.
Also, even if you've got an awesome video card you'll notice some choppiness during the opening cutscene when it shows the big gunfight. Same if you're on a security terminal with 3 cameras with a lot of models on each. With Glide there's no slowdowns ever.

This is something I've been trying to figure out for a while. When I first played the game when it came out, it auto-saved every time there was a loading screen. There's even a check box on the save game screen to have it do this. But it doesn't. Also, if you really look when it's loading a new area it flashes "Saving" for a fraction of a second. Maybe the GOTY patch killed it...
Still, the default binding is + on the numpad, extremely convenient since your right hand is inches away on the mouse.
edit: N/m, that's the savegame deletion confirmation checkbox. I'm gonna look through the config files.

So did she, that's part of why that line sticks out. She pronounces that properly but actually says "porice".
